Civ5 available for preload on Steam - NOW (September, 13th)

Um.... guys, you're talking about circumventing the game's security, on the game's website.

My advice - leave it be. No need to make them regret they offered a preload option.

Uh...this is civfanatics, not 2k games :). But you're right, no point in getting our account revoked because you can't wait...

If only Evrett could see this now

Well, yeah, I guess I still associate both with Civ in this sense... :)

At any rate, there are a couple of 2K folks here somewhere, are there not?

I think that the 2k people would like to be informed that there is a way that players are going to try and cheat so that they can provide either an incentive not to or find a way to prevent it.

Also, I'd like to apologize to the moderator for my post. I meant to say that I found a way people were trying to break in, and I think it will fail because of steam's excellent anti-piracy protections. I wasn't being very smart in that I thought the "Good Luck" was clearly sarcasm

Everyone who pre-ordered on D2D should submit a ticket asking for our keys. Strength in numbers. :p

Agreed. I have emailed D2D, and everyone else should too.

Just to be clear, I'm not upset with D2D or anything, I wouldn't expect them to hand out Steam game keys for pre-loading. But there's no harm asking, and if we all do, maybe they will work it out so we can get our keys early.

There are no refunds on D2D preorders unfortunately.

Is D2D able to give us steam keys? Aren't the steam keys for actually unlocking the game to play it? (as opposed to being able to pre-download).

Neverless I will email them as well.

No, Steam keys are needed to download. Validation is what you do to unlock it. Basically, Steam takes your key, lets you download. On release date, you ask Steam to decrypt the files you have.

Thanks for the info Tibblers.

If someone could give out the D2D email that would be great.

You can contact D2D support here:

http://support.direct2drive.com

You will need to create an account (even if you already have a normal D2D account), and link it to your D2D account.

I've always been happy with D2D in the past. Offering Steam games is a pretty new thing for them, and I bet they want to support the Steam platform fully, including preloading. Of course it may depend on what kind of deal they have with Steam.

They may even be planning to release the key ahead of time, and we are just being impatient.

How does Steam work WRT regions? Will it let me get Civ V with a Korean credit card and IP?
