CIV6 Civs and Leaders

Yes, Bolivar was in Colonization, but that was an offshoot of Civ rather than an actual part of the Civ series, no?

Kongo would be great! A lot of their leaders were Portuguese puppets though, weren't they? =|

For leaders, I'm thinking Louis XIV for France (big spender, vain, warmonger but cultured--big personality, and less vanilla than warlike Napoleon). That said, Napoleon is more well known so it's likelier he'll be in.

Gandhi for India again. Though it's getting boring now. I think he occupies the "peaceful at almost all costs" and so he will be back as the leader of India again (agendas).

I'm guessing Mansa Musa for Mali because he's associated with bling (and rightfully so, given history's records of his fabulous hajj). Big personality.

Arabia will probably be led by the "just warrior" Saladin, though bookish Harun al-Rashid might be a good Arabian Nights choice too.

Japan might be Meiji, surprisingly, or Minamoto Yoritomo (first shogun). Hideyoshi might appear but he wasn't as revered as Nobunaga or Hideyoshi, was he? Or as successful (disastrous and costly invasions of Korea).

For Kongo, Nzinga wasn't a puppet. Technically, she ruled in what is now Angola, but the fact remains that she managed to keep her realm afloat for a while. Plus, more female leaders are always good.

Mansa Musa seems a bit more likley for the "West African/ Sub Saharan" spot.

For Japan, it might be Hideyoshi, seeing as he's one of the unifiers of Japan, and we've already had Tokugawa and Nobunaga. Also, Oda Nobunaga isn't highly revered in Japan either - he was actually quite brutal...

Arabia... I suppose anything goes.

Never heard of it before. I just google it and I can't see how Firaxis could make any cultural appropriation with Vietnam more than the company does with any other civ.

Yeah, but there's a lot of descendants of people that fled from them in North America, and they don't cotton to these things. They could simply use another leader like the Trung sisters and it would be fine.

Nzinga wasn't ruler of the Kongo, IIRC. But Angola would be a cool addition to the game.

Oda was brutal, but he was also respected. Hideyoshi was feared, but not as respected. Based on the little I know. :)

Well that's disappointing

Why? IIRC it's the same number Civ V had at launch, and that ended up with more Civs than any other iteration of the franchise. I think it just means we can expect the DLC + expansions model to continue.

I find it funny people keep saying then when it's literally been confirmed we're getting DLC.

As long as it's reasonably priced I don't care.

I was hoping the number of civs would be at least 20, but considering the amount of effort that would have to go into 3d modeling, coding, and animation... I really can't blame them with just going with 18 again.

I could see Hideyoshi but he was the man behind the Japanese invasion of Korea. The invasion was deeply unpopular and abandoned pretty much the instant he died. Seems a bit controversial considering the feelings about Japan in Korea and China. Though that invasion was more of a blip in relations.

For Oda he was a pretty brutal guy. Pops up a lot in games as a demon king but he is also the subject of much fascination. If its a samurai and not Tokugawa or Oda it could be Hideyoshi. They could also go with a Minamoto or a Hojo. I doubt they would go with one of the Ashikaga shoguns it was not the most prestigious of lines.

My guess for the 18 civs

America, Egypt, China, Japan, Arabia, Aztecs, England, France, Germany, Greece, India, Rome, Russia, Babylon, Inca, Mongolia, Zulu (or maybe not :p), plus a civ that was never represented in Civ before,

maybe Persia or Ottomans could take the spot of Zulu,
My reasoning for including Babylon, Mongolia, Zulu was that they chose the Civs in Civ 1 to celebrate the 25 anniversary of the civ franchise.

I hope there aren't too many DLCs, I would rather have expansions.

Well that's why it's disappointing. I was hoping after so many years we could sneak an extra couple Civs into the Vanilla version. There are so many Civs that pretty much have to be in that it leaves less room for new Civs or ones that should be there get left out. Of course with DLC and expansions we'll get back to Civ V complete numbers but who wouldn't want to see more Civs on launch? Gamers always hope for more in the sequels.

Hopefully through expansions and DLC we finish at a higher number than Civ V complete at least. I mean I already preordered the special edition and will buy any DLC with Civs as they come so don't get me wrong I'm still completely enamored; just a little bummed because when I play Civ V vanilla I feel like my options are so limited for Civs after DLC, G&K and BNW

I feel like if Zulu are in the game, it'll be as a DLC. They weren't in the base game for IV or V, and I don't expect VI to be any different... Mongolia and Babylon I'm more hopeful about.

Indeed, given their popularity, if I was Firaxis I would use them as a draw card for a future expansion

Good list, but I believe they have said that some of the launch Civs will be completely new to the franchise (it's in the video right after he confirms 18 Civs at launch).

I left room for one new civ. I'm curious about this. How many never before civs will be in the game at launch?
Possible New Civs-Kongo, Gran Colombia, Vietnam, Australia, Canada, Argentina,

Maybe I'm crazy but Teddy looks a lot better in the E3 video. Looked super obese in initial screens but today he seemed a bit more fit and flexible.

They mentioned they want more S. American civs, so I think there will be more than just the Inca and Aztecs.
