Civ6 for iPad

I really like the ui, everything just feels natural and works as you’d expect it to. Obviously it’s somewhat limited by screen real estate, but even there they did a great job balancing panel sizes. Everything is very responsive regarding the touch interface. I’d agree that it feels more fluid as a touch interface as opposed to m/kb.

Just as I thought.

It's tough to make a UI that is great for both touch and traditional GUI interfaces. Civ VI UI seemed more touch oriented. I suppose 2K+Firaxis overestimated the growth/dominance of tablets. A couple of years ago it might have looked like everything was going in that direction...but the PC/Mac platform appears to have rebounded.

As long as the game has heafty computing requirements it will do better (marketshare wise) on the PC/Mac. I pretty much only play large/huge+ maps now (for an epic more immersive game). So as much I would be tempted to use a touch interface (i.e. iPad) for playing Civ VI (cos I've developed an RSI like strain in my right hand playing Civ) I think I will stick to the PC.

Thanks for the feedback :D

I have the last ipad pro 10.5 inch so retina work well for me too, no lag but you can see that some textures particularly terrain and water are a little blurry at this resolution.
I have try some mods and it seems that mods that did not need update for season patches or who have an earlier version before the patches works. I guess some UI mods could conflict with UI modifications of this version, I continue to try diverse mods and versions^^

wait, how are you accessing mods on the ipad version of civ 6?

Dumb question, I am new to the whole iOS thing and installed the game on my iPad Pro. There is no shortcut added. How do I launch the game? :(

There definitely should have been a shortcut added. If there wasn't, try going back to the iOS store and going back to the Civilization VI page, if it says "open" you can open it from there, but of course if it doesn't you'll need to re-download it.

I used iTunes file sharing on a Mac to access the game files on my iPad. I don't know if the windows version of iTunes also has file sharing.

If any of you fancy trying a map/mod please tell me if Scrambled Australia plays on the iPad? (Try Tiny size) →
https://forums.civfanatics.com/resources/scrambled-australia.26427/

(Although none of you have Nubia or Australia DLC to make use of it. You could try Egypt, India or Japan) :)

So if the iPad version is not connected to Steam, it both lacks achievements and the more recent DLC right?

There is no DLC currently, but the framework is there for both DLC and mods. It definitely has achievements though.

Are the achievements the same as the ones for the Steam incarnation?

You can acces the mod folder with a software like phoneview or iexplorer (you cannot with just itunes file sharing because it don't allow to browse completely into the folders), I use iExplorer in demo mode since yesterday and it's working well.
I continue to test different mods and I will post my compatible modlist later.

but for now for the curious these mods seems to be working (don't prevent to launch a game at least)
- JFD rule with faith v8 work (it don't launch the game in v9 and after)
- 8 age of pace and 8 age of war work at last versions
- AI+ V9 work (have not tested superior version yet)
- Biao's Strategic Resource and Tech Tree mod work at last version
- UncivilizedGuy Defense contractors, loaded districts and modern industry works at last versions, modern buildings work with v3 max but make Defense contractors and loaded district don't work (so I advise to use these 3 mods instead, loaded districts add more and enough buildings to make modern buildings not essential)
- Detailed world work at last version
- Quo's Rocketboots work at last version
- Smoother Difficulty work at last version
- Tomatekh's Historical Religions work at last version
you can downloads all these mods in civfanatics

I will try other mods on the steam workshop but, with civ 6, you can't direct download them with a website like steam workshop downloader.
So I'm going to have to wait to get back from vacation for being able to download mods via Steam PC, the most annoying is that the steam workshop doesn't have version system so it's last version or nothing, could be a problem.

I see. So you could do each achievement twice if you had the iPad version and the PC version!

Fun. (Well, not particularly, especially if you wanted achievements in both joined together under one account but oh well.)

My first game completed. Trajan, King, Standard map, continents. I won on science, but could have gone for domi too.

Two crashes during the entire game (about 400 turns), both related to movie sequences. Fully acceptable since I'm playing with an unsupported Mini 4.

Now I'm going for a religious win on Emp.

Played for three hours on my A10X iPad Pro at full retinal screen resolution. Gilgamesh, King, Tiny map. Battery went from full to 18% when I stopped. No heat problems.

The iPad Pro more than capable of running the game on tiny maps at standard resolution and probably needs an option to adjust screen resolution to remove the need to hack game files. Next game I’ll try the standard map.
