I wonder if there has been a CivFanatics meeting in the past? Most of the IRC channels have member meetings and so could CivFanatics. Wouldn't it be cool to meet the people who are posting here in reality? Of course everything would have to be planned very well ahead, probably with a year's notice or so. Then, some 20-30 people could meet in some European (I think USA is a bit too far - I live in Lithuania myself

) country, spend a few days together drinking beer and discussing Civilization and generally having good time. So, can anyone tell if there were similar events before?

Well if it's outside North America you can count me out. I haven't the time or the cash to go to Europe just to meet people I know only as electronic sprites posting in cyberspace.

The idea has some merit. But it would not be a priority for me. If I'm going to travel more than 100 km (60 miles), it will have to be a good reason. That's just how it is.

Well, it would be cool, but I too would have a difficult time getting anywhere far from home. I will be going to the UK in a year or two, so if everyone wants to meet me there....

I'd be game. Britain may not be a bad idea - it's accessible from Europe and the U.S. (You can get $200 roundtrip tickets between New York & London). Just choose somewhere away from London (for cheaper housing, etc.)

Why not?

In the unlikely event that I would attend such an event, if it wasn't in Las Vegas, NV, USA, there's NO WAY I'd go. The notion seems way too trekie-esque to me.

I'm going to Amsterdam next summer with acouple of my friends for our senior trip

So i'm up for meeting and good looking women

I think that it would be fun to meet some fellow civvers - and I don't know if there's any real reason to only have one, big meeting. Why not have several, more regional get-togethers allowing for more local people to meet (along with anyone who may be visiting the area at the time).

For example, I would not mind hosting anyone in the NY/NJ metro area - or anyone who would travel to the area. It could also be that we all meet at a specified bar or restaurant in NYC or something.

I could even bring a digital camera and post some pics of the event on the site. Perhaps if others do the same we could make a collage...

I met one civfanatic already, Caligastia, a month or so ago.

Well, UK is a good choice, cause that be a good excuse for me to get there (there are a lot of friends i want to visit there)

Lithuanian civers will probably meet sometime during September for a couple of pints at the local pub (at least that is is the plan).

I like the idea of a regional meeting. There are several of us here from Colorado, and the folks from Texas won't have to go far. We could meet here in the Mile High.

I'm up for a meeting....but it would have to be local....and all the big posters are all over the world.

Like I know no other poster from Florida!!!

And if I still lived in Newfoundland it would be a 10 hour drive across the province, then a 3?? hour ferry trip, followed by a 2-3 hour car drive and another ferry trip, just to get to PEI and meet wiemar_republic. *shudders* Or 5 hour drive to Federicton to meet Fishheads (Now that he's moved there.)

Too far for the average teen!!! Unless it was all expenses paid....but I don't think TF has the money for that.

You are going where Sun Tzu? <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0> To my beautiful city? I don't hope you're a drugs tourist (like I care)! Amsterdam rules!

Since already 3 people will be in Amsterdam next year (me, Kira, Sun Tzu) and a lot of Dutch are members, why don't we have the meeting in A'dam? From London to A'dam is only 33 English pounds, and from France it's drivable. The Amies could go by plane from N.Y. to A'dam, or if it's cheaper via London Heathrow.
