Civfanatics Survivor Challenge

Almost forgot...

Thanks to Mojo for running this thing, it was alot of fun. :D

Oh yeah! Mojotronica rocks! This game was no mean feat and he pulled it off wonderfully! [party]

Good job CivCube! And you gave it an awesome shot Inter32. Did better than me anyway. ;) :D

Starting right after the tribal merger, players had the option of declaring immunity and virtually guaranteeing that they would survive a single vote, but it was not always a sure thing...

When a player declared immunity but it did not affect game play, I kept it a secret from the other players. Here is when players declared immunity in the game. Round one is the round that Octavian X was voted out, round ten is the round that Sysyphus was voted out:

Superevie declared in round 3
Sysyphus declared in round 3
Wildfire declared in round 5
Archer_007 declared in round 6
CivCube declared in round 9
Inter32 declared in round 9

I divided each of your maximum number of votes into your actual number of votes to determine your participation percentage in the second half of the game...

Superevie: 5/5 = 100%
Sysyphus: 10/10 = 100%
Tonberry: 3/3 = 100%
Wildfire: 8/8 = 100%
Xen: 2/2 = 100%
Inter32: 9/10 = 90%
Archer_007: 8/9 = 88.9%
Alex the Great: 5/7 = 71.4%
CivCube: 7/10 = 70%
Plexus: 4/6 = 66.7%
Benderino: 2/4 = 50%
Octavian X: 0/1 = 0%

Here's a recap of challenges + votes for the first half:

Superevie: 10/10 = 100%
Xen: 10/10 = 100%
Inter32: 9/10 = 90%
Plexus: 9/10 = 90%
SeleucusNicator: 8/9 = 88.9%
Sysyphus: 8/9 = 88.9%
Alex the Great: 8/10 = 80%
Archer_007: 7/9 = 77.8%
CivCube: 7/9 = 77.8%
Octavian X: 6/9 = 66.7%
Tonberry: 6/9 = 66.7%
Benderino: 5/9 = 55.6%
Wildfire: 5/9 = 55.6%
Naervod: 3/6 = 50%
Perfection: 1/2 = 50%
China444: 2/5 = 40%
MummyMan: 1/9 = 11.1%
Bacon King: 0/4 = 0%

And overall:

Superevie: 15/15 = 100%
Xen: 12/12 = 100%
Sysyphus: 18/19 = 94.7%
Inter32: 18/20 = 90%
SeleucusNicator: 8/9 = 88.9%
Archer_007: 15/18 = 83.3%
Plexus: 13/16 = 81.3%
Alex the Great: 13/17 = 76.5%
Wildfire: 13/17 = 76.5%
Tonberry: 9/12 = 75%
CivCube: 14/19 = 73.7%
Octavian X: 6/10 = 60%
Benderino: 7/13 = 53.9%
Naervod: 3/6 = 50%
Perfection: 1/2 = 50%
China444: 2/5 = 40%
MummyMan: 1/9 = 11.1%
Bacon King: 0/4 = 0%

Well, good job to both of you. Inter, I would have voted for you if you hadn't voted for me. You stabbed me in the back.

This game was about that: not trusting anyone. You don't see sysyphus and archer complaining about me and CivCube. I did what I had to do.

Vote # 1 -- Perfection

SIBLING's first eviction went to Perfection, an odd choice from my perspective as Perfection had participated in the first immunity challenge when others had sat it out.

Later on it came out that Perfection had made an enemy of Xen (at least) by threatening to vote him off at some point in the game.

Perfection's early elimination may have been a mistake for SIBLING, but in their defense he did not participate in the first vote and never sent me a weapon of choice for the second challenge, and may not have checked the results of the vote until after that challenge was over. Perfection may have let the team down in the near future -- but we'll never know.

Vote # 2 -- Bacon King

Bacon King was one of two obvious choices for eviction after the second immunity challenge -- two in SIBLING had not yet participated in either challenges or votes, and one of them was BK. It sounds like he was a victim of bad timing -- the game got going just as he was disconnected from CFC for a couple days, and that was all it took to seal his fate.

Vote # 3 -- Naervod

Early on Naervod's participation was spotty, but in fairness he was turning it around. He contributed a weapon of choice to the second and fourth challenge (but was eliminated before it could be brought into play.) If SIBLING had eliminated MummyMan in vote 3 instead of Naervod, they would have locked-up victory in immunity challenge four instead of having to risk the coin toss.

Still, Naervod missed challenge three -- and that one was close enough that his participation could have changed the outcome. Participation in the immunity challenges is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to success in the early game.

Vote # 4 -- China444

China444 and Tonberry had both skipped a couple of challenges, but China was the one that DARKSHADE opted to evict in it's first vote. A logical choice, and China's lack of participation in this vote underscored that he was probably the better choice of the two (since Tonberry DID participate in that vote.)

Vote # 5 -- MummyMan

MummyMan was another victim of circumstances I think. He was very enthusiastic about the game but only participated in one immunity challenge -- and no votes -- over the course of several days. I think his real life interfered with his gameplay, indicating that MM has a better sense of his priorities than most of us. Especially me. :)

Still, his lack of participation really hurt SIBLING over time. Naervod or Perfection would have been better choices to keep around, based on their records.

Vote # 6 -- SeleucusNicator

This one was very surprising. SeleucusNicator had been one of DARKSHADE's most consistant players. But DARKSHADE's limited participation over the course of a couple of days put a lot of power in the hands of a very few, and SN had the misfortune to get ousted in a life and death struggle against Tonberry.

One advantage that SIBLING had over DARKSHADE was that in facing adversity early in the game, a rock-solid alliance had gelled among the survivors in SIBLING. DARKSHADE was much less organized -- and it cost them going into the merger. This lack of organization was part of why vote # 6 was so weird -- the game's only run-off vote, and the eviction of a powerful player.

With the resolution of the sixth vote, the merger occured and Tribe THUNDERFALL was formed.

Vote # 7 -- Octavian X

The merger changed the nature of the game, but old inter-tribal rivalry still dominated. However the former members of SIBLING were lean and focused and the former members of DARKSHADE was unable get organized in time to counter them. Remarkably, CivCube crossed tribal lines to vote for Octavian X along with the former members of SIBLING. The rest of the former members of DARKSHADE made a clumsy attack on Superevie and Xen (who had been the most vocal members -- and obvious targets -- of SIBLING in the early part of the game) but were overwhelmed.

Octavian X was the first member of THUNDERFALL evicted from the game.

Vote # 8 -- Xen

Now it was the former members of SIBLING's turn to stumble. They all participated, but their voting was not very focused this time around. The former members of DARKSHADE were not completely aligned but their superior numbers prevailed -- and Xen paid the price. It was a devastating loss for SIBLING, who could not afford to lose even one vote at this point in the game.

If SIBLING had been better organized this time around the whole game could have gone differently.

Vote # 9 -- Tonberry

SIBLING had a weak showing in this vote, but even outnumbered and facing an enervated DARKSHADE, they managed to win this round.

Superevie gambled that she was the target of DARKSHADE's wrath and was right. If not for her timely use of immunity, DARKSHADE would have dominated the game at this point. Tonberry's loss kept SIBLING in the game.

Vote # 10 -- Benderino

The first eviction of someone who would serve on the game's final tribal council jury, vote 10 evened up the numbers of former members of each tribe. This was actually the peak of SIBLING's power in the game, because they had managed to convince CivCube to swing vote with them a couple times. After Benderino's loss, I thought it was over for DARKSHADE.

Vote # 11 -- Superevie

Another twist -- the last gasp of SIBLING as a voting alliance. Thanks to Wildfire impressively timed use of immunity the power shifted back to DARKSHADE. Superevie fell victim to the same fate as Tonberry, and lost despite having control of the vote. Over the next few rounds, DARKSHADE consolidated it's power, while adopting former SIBLING Inter32 as one of their own.

Vote # 12 -- Plexus

A weird vote -- Inter32 and CivCube each voted for one of their former own. Plexus and Alex didn't participate for some reason. Perhaps they knew that it was all over for them. Later on in the game, Inter32's decision to vote for Plexus led directly to his loss in the final jury vote, but it may have been necessary to demonstrate to the former members of DARKSHADE that he had truly joined their ranks.

Vote # 13 -- Alex the Great

Again, Alex didn't cast a vote. Probably didn't matter at that point. Wildfire was a dissenter here, voting against Inter32, possibly to avenge Inter32's earlier vote against him. Sysyphus' vote for Wildfire indicated that the game was turning against WF.

Vote # 14 -- Wildfire

Not surprising -- Wildfire had been attracting votes from the remaining members for the last couple of rounds. He lost overwhelmingly here. The vote cemented Inter32's place in the new tribe.

This vote, BTW, is the first vote in a series where we had 100% participation. Very nice for me. :)

Vote # 15 -- Archer_007

This vote was a pure power struggle between two previously unrevealed factions. It would have gone to a run-off - and if that had been inconclusive (which it probably would have been) a decision based on previous votes... And THAT decision would have FAVORED Archer, because Inter had racked up a few votes over the course of the game while Archer had none up to that point.

But Inter32 used immunity, and Archer_007 did not, and that sealed Archer's fate.

Vote # 16 -- Sysyphus

Another surprising vote. I figured that Inter32 was done for at this point, because it made the most sense for CivCube and Sysyphus to vote him off. Why? Because he had revealed the use of his immunity, while the status of CivCube and Sysyphus' immunity was still unrevealed. Each of them might have assumed that the other still had it, and that meant that an attempt to eliminate the other could backfire.

The sure thing was a coordinated vote against Inter32 who had no defense. But ultimately CivCube gambled that Sysyphus did not have the immunity, and sided with Inter. And he prevailed.

The final Jury vote:

Nothing ticks people off more than a perceived betrayal, and the final jury vote reflects that. It looks to me like Sysyphus, Alex the Great, Plexus AND Benderino ALL voted for the finalist who logically betrayed them the LEAST. CivCube held onto more friends over the course of the game, and that's what made the difference.

I want to thank again Mojo for his incredible and exausting work. He deserves a big APPLAUSE!!! :goodjob:

[stands up and claps] Woooooo Mojo! You are awesome! Hopefully you'll do another one of these and I will be the first one to sign up! :D

(AND Inter32 has the old avatar back! Yay!)

Well, I'm sorry if I backstabed people, but hey, IT'S JUST A GAME.
I learned my lesson (I didn't win the game because of it) so I won't do it again.

NOTE: I don't know why but people seem to like my sports announcer avatar

I didn't do any backstabbing because I felt wrong about it. I knew it was just and all, but I thought it could create some ill feeling among everyone, so I abstained. I'm kinda glad I played the game how I did, though next time I would hope CivCube wouldn't do that little backstabbing manuveur when I got voted out....

(The avatar is just really freaking cool! I dunno, I just love it. :p)

Thanks Mojo, fun game.

I'd just like to point out that if it wasn't for archers full pm box, things might of been different ;)

Wildfire brings up a good point. There are potential technical problems with CF Survivor. Players must keep their PM mailboxes tidy to avoid missing important messages.

Throughout the game I was scrupulous about keeping MY mailbox cleaned out. I never had it more than around 25% full at any point in the game. When a PM result was posted, I cleaned out messages related to the completed challenge or vote. I kept a few notes in my sent mail folder -- immunity declarations and the Jury Duty Summons template. But other than those it was always empty other than a handful of current votes.

Another useful tool for this game is the "Who's Online" page. This way one can see who is sending private messages at the time. This was kind of how I figured out that Inter32 was being honest to me. I thought that he was PMing Archer, until I saw Archer's thread about PMs in Site Feedback.

Great game, Mojo. It was a blast and not just because I won. :mischief:

Err, Is it possible for me to join in?

Pst, Superevie, can you help me get Mojo to let me in?

Unless this game is over. If it is Can someone let me know if someone starts another one?

The game was over almost three weeks ago.
I don't know if Mojo has the time and the will to do Survivor II. That game took a lot out of his time.

@CivG: If there is another one and there isn't room for you, I'll make it so you can join. ;)
