Later. I don't even know what CV could possibly bring to the table constituting a clear improvement over CIV. Also, there seems so much left to do with CIV, both from a modder's and a player's perspective.

There are people still saying the same thing about Civ3. There are new Civ3 mods being released all the time, right now.

So ... civ IV should never have been made?

I welcome civ5 whenever it is released, as long as it is not a rushed, bugged, laggy stupid game... I dont mind waiting for years...

Oh Civ V will be buggy alright...

Do not forget that no matter how much firaxians test it, the community as a whole will find loopholes because the amount of playing that the game will get will far exceed the amount of testing firaxis could possibly do. Before you know it, these forums will be crawling with posts from people finding all sorts of errors.

I guess you didnt play Empire Total War :)

Civ3's pollution and corruption model is so irritating that I could never go back to Civ3. The endgame is so tedious when victory is assured. Civ4 is excellent just considering the reduced micromanagement alone.

Empire total war was not buggy for me. I am one of the very few people who never experienced a single crash. Of course not much else in that game worked the way it was supposed to...

Even in the BtS 3.19 patch there are still some issues lingering that should have been dealt with a long time ago. the very fact that binary research is still a more effective way of researching is a testament to that. Let us not kid ourselves in saying that Civ IV was way better when it came out. In complex games like these mistakes in the code and such can always be found.

For me, micromanagement was one of the more interesting parts of the game which was thoroughly dumbed down for Civ IV. When you combine that with the lousy random map generation and the blatant AI cheating, Civ 4 isn't a patch on Civ 3 as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, civ III AI don't cheat at all, right?

The sophisticated neural net AI of CivIII was so devious that many were duped into thinking that the AI civs merely received extra Settlers, more beakers and hammers, or even that Corruption, Pollution and Unhappiness penalties were relaxed for AI civs as the difficulty level went up.
And those who believe that the human player's happy cap was 1 at any level above Prince are just plain wrong.

Hi! First post on this forum although I'm coming on this site for years (Civ III was on of my first PC game).

I'd like Civ 5 now because it is time! If you look at all the release dates you have 4 years between every version with mostly 2 add ons between. It's been 5 years and 2 add ons and Civ tend to be released in autumn so it's for the end of this year (maybe a big announcement during the coming gaming conference in Germany?). Hope the crisis did not delayed or worse it!

My pros for a new game are far more numerous than the cons. I don't expect (nor want) big improvement in graphics. No real Civ fans need it. Civ 4 was great but I agree some features were ill done and some nice stuffs in the III were better. Why so many people don't wan't something better. Sure Civ IV is great but it's very old! You can like your old firebird it's nothing regarding the new Ferrari! Most of the people aren't playing at all the "real game" as they play mods (it's clear some are wonderful)

Civ offer one lesson you can't stop progress!

I hope though that they'll add more features but useful one. A lot of things were at best irritating in Civ IV. I hope the V will not need 2 expansions to be a great. I hope it will be done to use multicore cpus and optimized to avoid the late game "click go make yourself a coffee to play the next turn". I hope no more phalanx destroying infantry things". I'd also like a more balanced game to be able to really play every period at lentgh. More discovery more tech more ways of winning! And naturally a good AI!

I've chosen NOW! Since even if its announced NOW! (this fall) it will take at least another year or so to be launched. By that time it would be really nice to have a state of the art Civilization again imo.

I voted for now as in, now would be a good time for Firaxis to commit to a new Civ game ad start working on new crazy ideas.

However, if I knew Civ V was in early stages of development, I'd probably still be happy enough with Civ IV to wait, say, 2 years for it. 2011 would be 20 years after Civ I guys..!

Welcome to the forums! As anxious as some are for CivV, Sid Meier has remained noncommittal about whether the game is even in development. that's not to say that there definitely won't be a CivV, it is to say that Sid seems reticent about announcing a commitment to it.
