Watch what happens 11:50 minutes into the video.

The interviewer asks Ed Beach if the game has the same weight at the end of the game as in the beginning - basically asking if the late game is as engaging as the early game.

Note the expression on his face right before the video ends.

I really, really hope it's just a coincidence that it cuts off right before he answers the question.

Maybe he went on a big tirade on how young people just don't have the patience to play a whole game anymore and how she has been annoying him with her twitchy behavior the whole interview.

"Get some pills for your ADHD and stop asking stupid questions!"

But on a more serious note I actually don't see any "hilarious expression". Looks to me like he's just waiting for her to stop adding more sentences so he can finally answer her question.

I didn't say his expression was hilarious, just that the video ending so abruptly during a question that I think is relevant to a lot of people who've played Civ games is funny on its own.

His less than enthused expression (whether that's just his resting face or not) was just icing.

As much as I love Ed, my god does he appear to really not like Press Stuff, he always looks like he'd prefer to be back at the office auto-playing the game, can't blame him, but someone's gotta do it.

I also think it's very hard, most devs, especially in big title games are often under severe NDAs and people always ask the wrong questions that they simply can't answer.

Remember that this was a LIVE STREAM, so there was a response. I can't remember as I was too focused on the gameplay so I wasn't listening to the actual interview since it's been mostly rehashes of current information.

That's fair, but for whatever reason that response didn't make it into the Youtube version. Which is either sloppy uploading or because Firaxis asked them not to include the answer at this juncture.

As for the "wrong" questions, unless they're given a strict list of things they can't ask beforehand, I think it's just the interviewer doing her job. I actually think the endgame question should be asked more often, since it never really came up for titles like Civ 5 and Beyond Earth, and for me that's still one of the things they still need to step up.

Usually a research at a glance will tell you

It's a tiny account with barely any subscribers, so I wouldn't really make assumptions when in reality it's just some random guy uploading the stream.

Maybe. Doesn't change that I would still like to hear Beach's answer to that question.

What are we getting in the late game when most of the exploration and settling is out of the way?

Besides more advanced tech and unit/building options and more "formalized" diplomacy options.

I might be thinking of another question, but I think that Ed said that the Civ V expansions really focused on making the late game as interesting as the early game with spies, archeologists, etc. And that most of that is in Civ VI (vanilla) to make the whole game interesting. He probably made some statement about not being able to announce many specifics about those systems yet, too.

I don't think there was any reason that the answer would intentionally be cut off. Probably just some issue with ripping the Twitch stream.

(EDIT: I don't see any hilarious expression either.)

1) It's the same 12 minute twitch video from yesterday that someone edited out just to show the 12 minutes of reel footage.

2) Not difficult to find full length 17 minute video on Twitch where Ed gives his answer.
"new things unfolding with each new age" and references BNW & GnK

Looks like Spies will be a lot of fun, sending them in for missions (Bond/Bourne inspirations).

They also talk about MP and other things.

Yeah, Ed seems pretty uncomfortable in front of the cameras. I'm sure he'd much rather be back working on his potential masterpiece rather than doing this. He's done well, though. :)

Are the spies units again or still tabs?

He doesn't say , you can watch the video for his answer to the question that got cut off.

If it is bond inspired/bourne inspired, I do think it will be driven mainly via a subscreen but more involved like those great old DOS espionage games like Sid Meier's Covert Action or Floor 13
where you get to assign agents to tail another agent, kill political opponents and so forth.

For the Civ 5-expansions he was tag-teaming with Dennis, but he seems to keep out of the spotlight this time around.

I'm guessing they drew straws and Ed had the shortest one ;)
