Civilization IN SPACE!

 That's hilarious!

Construction of Mining Facilities on the third planet of the Sardonyx or Forge system, Epsilon, has been completed. The Worker's Council expects a massive increase in productivity over the next months as more immigrants from the home planet move in to settle down and extract valuable materials from the world's valuable surface.

OOC note: Since turns here are months, not years, it is not realistic for the population growth mechanic to represent actual increase of the number of people before Turn 100 or so, when we finally get past the first decade. Rather I think that it stands for increase in employment. The population on every colony (with the exception of New Earth which has double that due to its age) is stable around one or two million people at this time, but most of them are not really doing anything productive for the economy (working planets as pop points) for now, and that only changes over time as the local governments create jobs (The things you put in the production queue).

Ok bragging time. How far behind am I?

Does anyone have a second Colony/Solar system? I trained the defense of and escorts for my current Colony ship, its at 50% completed

AFAIK New Earth is the only faction with a second colony so far. I for one have not even discovered the tech for Colony Ships yet and even if it would still take a while until I build one since I'm growing more slowly than others.

Will get 2 this turn.

Scout Ship Labor has spotted a couple of suspicious looking New Earth ships heading for the Forge system. Intensive scans reveal that they seem to be equipped for conquering inhabited planets.

We demand an explanation, Mr. Alvarez!

Aliens! Aliens discovered! Anyone else had stumbled across star system with goody huts ("inhabited")?

So far only ship wreckages.

I guess it would make sense from a storytelling perspective if we took notes of which systems are inhabited.

We had aliens give us new tech for prolonged hand holding...

The Scout Ship "Sea" has met a strange new Alien race. They misunderstood our custom of shaking hands and thought that our crew was trying to mate with them. Although this made for several awkward moments, it did lead to them sharing technological secrets with us in return for prolonged hand holding. I feel cheap and used, but we all must sacrifice for science.

Unfortunately though, just before returning to our ship, several of the crew were informed that they were going to be fathers. Just wait until they try to explain that to their families back home.

Oh, right.

I still demand an explanation for an Invasion ship named 'Gambit I' flying in my direction. Did you really think I wouldn't spot it ages in advance with all my scouts flying around?

Chancellor Alvarez has asked me to tell you that he has no idea what you are talking about. You are just being paranoid.

However, lets have a replay of history...

Your First Contact

Spoiler :
"New Earth, so so, I am completely perplexed that those momma's boys even survived one day without the PDE holding their hand, let alone two years. Still, I see no reason to needlessly antagonizing them, so... wait, is this thing still on?"
- Captain of the FS Work, unintentionally replying to the New Earth Scout

Our Reply

Spoiler :
TO Forge Vessel:
"I don't know what type of game you are playing, but we need to know your intentions. I am authorized to extend a hand of peace. However, we are more than capable of defending ourselves.
You are getting close to entering our space. Make your intentions known."

After silencing the communication array, Captain Avera turned to his crew and began giving orders.

"Corporal, get the Planetary Defense Counsel on another Chanel. We may be dealing with hostels. "

"Aye Captain, sending request now"

The Captain sighed as he rubbed his temples, "I do not need this today."

"Captain, I have the minister of Planetary Defense on a secure Chanel for you."

"I'll take it in the conference room 1"

Then You Replied...

Spoiler :
"Actually, you are entering our space, so I could ask the same of you. Unless you picked up your scanners in a garbage bin you should have long determined that none of our ships have offensive capabilities, so even if we wanted to hurt you we would be unable to do so.
You are not the boss of me, you arrogant snob. In case you haven't noticed, the PDE has kinda stopped existing, which means we don't have to take orders from anyone, least of all a stuck up slimebag like you. Now why don't y'all just bugger home or let someone who actually knows what he's doing take over the comlink?"

Now, based on your first contact, who truly is the arrogant snob?

Then our Planetary News Reported...

Spoiler :
New Earth News Network (NENN) "Where the true version of events is told"

"This just in... Our Scout Ship "Fire" has made contact with the rebellious faction known as Forge. All attempts at civil diplomacy was lost as the captain of the Forge Vessel chose to resort to child-like insults and innuendos.

In other news our colony ship... er... wait. What? Oh, never mind, NENN has determined that you, our loyal audience, do not need to know about that.

Of course you know that the only truth that matters is the truth that we report."

Now, who should I believe? Your propaganda agents trying to accuse us of hostility or our always honest and always fair News Agency?

But as you can see and as the record proves, IF we were planning an invasion you only have yourself to blame. But, we are not so do not worry about it.

~~Dick Clinton (Propaganda Minister)

So y'all are looking for trouble, is that what you are saying?

So y'all are looking for trouble, is that what you are saying?

No, dear little one, that is not what we are saying. What we are saying is that we have attempted peaceful negotiations with you and you have been rude and incorrigible.

Have you not noticed Space Pirates in the area? We have one chasing one of our scout ships not far from your system now. It is in our best interest to have offensive ships patrolling the regions around our numerous systems.

Why would a people as great as we be bothered with a faction that can barely sustain one tiny system anyway?

~~Dick Clinton (Propaganda Minister)

Oh y'all be getting in trouble alright.
