Civilization V Announced!

im looking to buy Civ 3 next month on ebay in July. reason being is people are actually finding a way to mod Civ 3 and i must join in on the fun. but that Peace guy is right lets just wait to 2012 to buy this civ 5 casue then people may be modding it by then. besides if your rich enough to pay the 50 dollars then by all means get it it could be a welcome addition to the collection im no stranger to paying 50 dollars for a video game. in fact i been paying this price for several years. where is this inflation people talk about USA prints up trillions of dollars to build up its nation ovar the generations and the money spends just as good as the previus years.

I think Civ 4 was pretty bad. Only Revolutions was worse. One ICBM WTH?
I miss the game play of Civ 3. Where you could sign a treaty and the break it the same turn. Diplomacy is for sissies.
Lets just hope they dont mess this one up too.

I have many fine memories of fighting (in simulation of course) across central Moldova against the Soviet occupiers. I also follow (sporadically) one of your football teams, Sheriff.

I heard CV is out from the guy sitting next to me...he's telling me it's an official version on Steam...can anyone confirm this?????

Guessing you are young ...

Let's see, what do I remember ... 15 cent McDonald's hamburger, 25 cent per gallon gasoline, Rambler American 6 seat sedan $1,999.00 ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rambler_American

Of course, that was in the 1960's

That is the inflation people talk about ... it is on pause now in deference to the recession.

Of course, health care costs and education costs (college costs) are not on pause, inflation in those areas goes on unabated ...

Back to game prices ... probably some psychological barrier at $49.99, otherwise new games would cost more for sure. With so-called "value added" features a Civ 5 deluxe edition will cost more ...

By charging $50 to the early adopters, and progressively lower prices to those who decide to or must wait for lower price, the companies extract the price each person is willing to pay ... this is the classic economic behavior of the monopolist (as opposed to the perfect competitor).

This concludes econ 101 ... ;)

I was reading about the Civilization's and I'm curious about the Aztec's "Sacrificial Captive" special ability... does this mean that in CIV5 that one can take prisoners? And if so then I guess the Aztecs can sacrifice them??

This is a great concept that has been left out of the past versions... in real life you don't kill the entire opposing army, in most cases they surrender and you have to house them somewhere... niiiiccceee!

Also I did not bother to read this month long thread in detail... I kind of skipped around so if this was discussed before then I apologize.

Lastly I have reservations regarding how much this game could be moded... for example I play exclusively with the Confederate States mod now and don't use any other civ, thus if I can't eventually play as the Confederacy then no matter what they add to the game I will probably keep playing Civ4.

While many modders might not like this idea I was thinking that Firaxis should just create extra Civ's that can be purchased for a price, downloaded, and installed. For example they could create:

(1). Israeli Civ
(2). Confederate Civ
(3). Soviet Civ
(4). Canadian Civ
(5). Australian Civ
(6). Nazi Civ
etc.,etc.

Just an idea that will probably go over like a lead balloon with most of the moders on here... but look at it from my side, I don't see many moders creating a realistic animated leader with voice so this might be a good idea.

except the only one they would possibly consider making is a Soviet Civ. none of the others would be purchased enough to make it worth their effort, and they'd flat out Never make Hitler.

Yeah, they'd lose the German market if they did that. Unless they wanted to make up some random leader like they did in one of the mods that came with BTS, that is. Even so, nobody would download any of those civs, just let the modders make them.

yeah but in the 1960's we were on gold standard they had gold backed dollars. besides you are much older then me i was born in 1980. and they call it a ression but no its actually a depression long ago they said if a ression lasts more than a year its a depression and plus look at unemployment 20 million people out of work and millions more on subsistence income from there jobs so many are starving. i myself am out of work and im in a work relief program that begins at the end of the month if i do a good job then i get highered in. in the 1940's and 1950's people earned 1 dollar a hour. this inflation is not as rampant as most think. as long as the USA keeps up its interst payments on the national debt then the american way of life continues.

I agree that the most likely one would be the Soviet Civ since after all they added Stalin to C4.

However right behind the Soviet Civ I think would be the Confederate one, you can't have a good civil war scenario without them, which I do alot. I normally place the American and Confederate civ's next to each other on a random map and see how things go... very fun. Also in C4 they added an animated Robert E. Lee to the intro so that is not too far off and they must of added him because of requests... kind of their way of throwing a bone to us.

About the Nazi one I can see where they would be hesitant to do it, and would need to make a different version for the German releases. But this guy, Hitler, is the perfect bad guy and makes both Stalin and Genghis Khan look like Girl Scouts. I can not picture a more perfect bad guy to play against or have to deal with.

As for the other civ's... Canada, Australia, Italy, Brazil, Israel, etc. I think if they were to be sold for $10 bucks a pop and 10,000 units are sold it would be well worth the effort for Firaxis.

Just my 2 cents...

Expecting anyone to pay $10 for Canada, Australia, Israel, Italy or Brazil is ridiculous.

Ridiculous to you and I but to a Canadian, Australian, Israeli, etc. that loves Civ its an awesome deal.

Just think about it... you can get a quality talking / animated leader with special units, special buildings, and all of the fixings for $10 bucks.
