2K Games yesterday announced the release date for Civilization V.

The game will be available on September 21 in North America, and internationally on September 24!

That's just 100 days from now!

Nice to know the date, at last.

Anyone know if they plan to release on PC and Mac at the same time?
The announcement only mentioned Windows PC.

New York, NY – June 11, 2010 – 2K Games announced today that Sid Meier’s Civilization® V will be available in North America on September 21, 2010 and internationally on September 24, 2010 for Windows PC. Sid Meier’s Civilization® V is currently in development at Firaxis Games. The Sid Meier’s Civilization franchise has been recognized as one of the greatest PC game franchises of all time, captivating millions of gamers around the world.

Sid Meier’s Civilization V reinvigorates the classic turn-based strategy genre with an astonishing new engine built from the ground-up for this flagship edition of the Civilization franchise. Players are introduced to a heightened tactical combat system; vast, realistic landscapes to explore; deeper diplomatic interactions; and an array of expanded features that deliver a fully immersive experience providing hours of entertainment as players build and defend their empire on their quest to become the greatest ruler the world has ever known. Additionally, the new in-game community hub allows Civ fans to share content and compete against each other without leaving the game, marking a new era that will forever change the “one more turn” addiction of the franchise.

Sid Meier’s Civilization V will be viewable by invitation during E3 2010 at 2K’s booth (South Hall, #2823). Sid Meier's Civilization V is not yet rated by the ESRB.

Was looking for the pre-order on steam, and noticed that the Deluxe-version isn't there.
Anyone know where it could be found? Or did 2k decide to release just one version because of the communities issues with the Deluxe version?

Not only is it going to be a nickle and dime cash cow but it also will bear the dubious title "Rushed out dribble". Dont buy until the testers have their muzzles removed and the NDA is lifted.

Thanks Thunderfall, luckily my mac is boot camped so I can play it one way or the other. It would just be nice if I didn't have to switch my mac over every time I wanted to play.

This will be the first time I will not purchase a civ game for myself and family. Hate to break something that has become a two decade tradition, but with Steam in the mix as well as 2K, that choice had to be made. Pity really, it looked to be a fantastic game.

Wow! I never knew Civfanatics had users who could predict the future! Are you some expert gamer who can look at the released information of the game and know exactly how it will turn out, without even playing the game first?

I'm going to wait and try out the demo when it's released, then I'll see if I buy the game or not.

Excellent! That means it should be priced at $20 by March of next year, and then I'll consider buying it.

As always I'll probably wait a week or two to hear what people here in the community say about the game-though I definitely won't listen to Cassandras like Evrett who seem to have nothing good to say about *anything*!

Aussie.

ROFL! There you have it, you're predicting the future too! You're just complaining because you don't like the future he predicted. I'll bet everyone here can predict the future!

Who here predicts they'll buy the game, sight-unseen?

Who here predicts they'll never buy it?

Wow, it's so fantastic, every human being has the ability to predict the future! Sometimes accurately too! Wheeeee!!!!! :woohoo:

My guess is people to have a big disappointment like Sim City Societies...

More i read on CivV more i think that game will be a mix between Civ IV and CivRev plus an hexagonal system of pathfinding...

I doubt the game will function properly out of the box, it will probably take a few patches and more than 1 expansion pack to make it enjoyable. I will wait and see if it is worth it.
Hate to say it, but CivV doesn't look so impressive at all, it looks like a SimCity Society of the civ series.

where are you basing your opinion on since there is little actual gameplay info besides the rules.
E3 is beginning and they will give a presentation and then we will hopefully know more but with so little info you cant say its bad or good.

but for me i am liking the info on the changes they gonna make but i dont know yet if it will be good/bad and if its going to be like bf:bc2 and the first weeks are almost unplayable.

Well, I was simply stating my opinion, which I admit is far from scientific. That being said, I need not justify my opinion to you or to anyone, nor do I necessarily need to base it on something concrete, since an opinion is just simply opinion.

There is the undeniable trend of generally declining production value of PC games though. Modern games seems to focus too much on eye-candies but not enough on enhancing game play. Where game play does become the subject of innovation, the innovation tends to involve dumping down the game rather than anything truly groundbreaking. Economic realities demands that studios rush out their games in a half-baked, barely playable state, with plenty of rooms for expansion packs or DLCs. Civ5, based on the info available seems to fit this model quite precisely. My opinion of the game at this point is unfavorable. I can be wrong, of course and I do hope 2k will show me how mistaken I am.
