Civilization V ?

From the Wiki article you linked to:

"There exists no polyhedron whose faces are all identical and are regular polygons with six or more sides because the vertex of three regular hexagons defines a plane."

So to make a globe out of hexes they'd have to fudge it somehow...

Yeah, they'd have to truncate it a bit possibly quite a lot. The screenies have no signs of truncation, so perhaps it's not either a real globoid (is that a word...) this time either. Of course, they could have some other system, like having different tile system for polar regions.

Pssst, Sisko. D is 500; M is 1000 :)

Not that hard to do (well, if the engine isn't set up for it, it would be really hard to do), it just requires 12 pentagons placed amongst the hexagons (like a foot/soccer ball). And that's 12 pentagons regardless of the size of the sphere.

It's not a sphere, I keep telling you!

I guess that these pentagons (suppose they go for a polyhedron earth in V) could be in polar regions. I don't really care if the poles are even accessible - all I want is that circumnavigating near the equator takes longer than near the poles, just like in Real Life(tm).
