Civilization VII - Civilization and leader overview

Do we know how they introduce the leader and Civ before starting the games? If they even still have that feature in the game.

For me personally, I won't be playing with randomized leaders for random Civs like Tecumseh in charge of the Greeks, or Ben Franklin in charge of Egypt. That's way too weird for me to accept.

I think there are some instances where it will be hard to do, such as Ben Franklin leading the Normans in order to get to America. But if you're okay with that then hopefully it won't be a big deal.

I think the main problem is they are asking about AI civs. But they should default to a historical or regional choice.

The AI will make "historical choices" so if they choose Ben Franklin as their leader, then they will probably choose a civ that can Reach America through "Historical" connections (so far the only one hinted so far is Rome with the Rome->Norman->America route)

But if Napoleon is also in the game as an AI leader and he goes first... He will probably choose Rome, and Ben might end up with Egypt

There could be an "AI leaders only from the Starting Age" option.... which would prevent Ben Franklin of Rome, but would allow Augustus of France/England/America

I do think they need to have a number of options
AI leaders only from Starting Era? default no
AI prioritizes historical civs? default yes
AI avoids duplicates if possible? default yes
Human historical only if possible? default no

Franklin can ignore the historical route however, since he will be able to form America no matter what. But I agree that the historical choices are mostly there to let the player know what the AI will pick for themselves.

I do not know what Franklin will pick in the Exploration Era, but the two times he showed up in the trailers, it was as the leader of either Rome or Greece.

We only really know of the Normans and Spain as European Exploration civs currently. We can also surmise that there may be a German choice at the very least, and possibly a Slavic option too. Maybe a Viking.

Of those choices, Ben Franklin seems unlikely to "historically" choose Spain or a Slavic civ, like Poland for example. Norman seems most likely with Viking and German having a secondary significance.

Like the old Sean Bean Monologue? In Civ VI it looks like it starts with

“it is the dawn of a new age, you leader has chosen one of the great civs of that era to further their epic tale”

So kind of like how Civ VI does it. But I expect we’ll see it three times a campaign.

Really happy to see my man Tecumseh as playable.

Think this is the Civ for a design a civ/leader DLC. Stellaris does it. CK does it. GC2 did it more than a decade ago.

Firaxis wants to sell civs, but they're restricting the play with it. So many ahistorical morphs irking players could be solved here. Let me take my narrative where I want. If I don't want Rome to fall in the West, so be it, let me make the exploration and modern WRE.

Welp, a bit late but there it is, if I did miss something please tell here. Oh well the changes (+EDIT):
Greece and Abbassids where the new 100% cofirmed civs, of which the Greece's wonder is actually the Oracle (of Delphi); on other wonders, the Pyramid of the Sun, Mausoleum of Theodoric, Hanging Gardens, Dur-Sharrukin, Colossus (of Rhodes), (Al-Khazneh of) (Ed-Deir of) Petra and the White Tower (of London) where all 100% UI confirmed. The new Indepedent Powers spotted are Canaan (Retenu), Hebrew or Israel (Shomron), Kutai (Kutai Martadipura) and Urartu (Sugunia).
Besides that I changed how leaders are displayed here, just for sake of theorycrafting I separated what would be The historical accurate leader of the civs from the plaussible hist. scenarios ones as well their recomended civ lineages. And another change is that, I'm not so sure if the Great Wall is indeed a wonder or a unique infrasctructure?

Someone made a good point that the Great Wall covers too many tiles in more than once city to be a Wonder.

:please: praying the modern Hawaii speculation is correct

BTW, someone on Reddit noticed that in the civ selection screen for the Normans, there are a total of 11 pips on the bottom of the screen (for selecting different civs), with the Normans being one of them.

This might suggest that, at least for this build they are showcasing, each Age has 11 different civs. The base game might have 11 or 12, with DLCs adding more (such as Shawnee).

The same logic has already been used in the build shown previously, but back then the UI had 15 pips for the same era.
Assuming they're not editing the number for kicks or playing these presentations at different resolutions, it might be the jump from a fully nonfunctional preview screen graphic to an actual implementation.

That wasn't even a build. That civ selection screen and the one prior to it were static images of a build

(Al-Khazneh of) Petra
As in civ 6, it's actually not the Al-Khazneh, but looks more like the Ed-Deir. The first is cut in the lower canyon without reaching the top, while the latter is more or less cut into the (free standing) rocks above the city, which might be the reason they prefer the somewhat less iconic Ed-Deir.

The Colossus is 100% confirmed as well:

And Dur-Sharrukin has been confirmed for a while now:

If we look at the rivers we have seen thus far in the videos we have the following rivers:
  • England: Great Ouse, Trent, Welland
  • Eritrea OR Chile: Damas
  • Ethiopia/Sudan: Blue Nile
  • France: Seine
  • Greece: Haliacmon
  • India/China/Bangladesh: Brahmaputra
  • Italy: Arno, Ofanto, Tiber
  • Mali: Bani
  • Peru: Willka Mayu
  • Sudan/South Sudan/Rwanda/Tanzania/Uganda/DRC/Ethiopia/Burundi: White Nile
  • Thailand: Tha Chin
  • Vietnam: Bassac
If we assume that rivers are named after geographical areas that were inhabitated/ruled by civs featured in the game then we can extrapolate from there. It already lines up with several confirmed civs.

Bassac is a branch of the Mekong River and originated from Cambodia, and we know Angkor Wat is a wonder; this might point towards Khmer.

Thanks for putting this together!

Some thoughts:
Blue & White Nile might just point to Aksum and Egypt.
Bani is probably Songhai
Tha Chin points toward Khmer for me.

Tha Chin points toward Khmer for me.

Tha Chin River is entirely within Thailand, though; it is a branch of Chao Phraya (the major river in Thailand that flows through Bangkok).

The Khmer ruled over most of the area it flows through so it still fits for the Khmer.

Edit: They ruled over the area that the Bassac flows through as well so both rivers are pointing towards the Khmer.
