Civilization VII Update 1.2.2 - June 23, 2025

I'm excited to try out the changes to trasure fleets and religion. Unfortunately the bug fixes list is always shorter than what I'd like to see.

The settler lense now shows tiles that are adjacent to a volcano, nice!
I am playing currently and my absolute favorite change are the friendly independents. Finally I can play peacefully for a longer period at the beginning of a game.
Does it change their relationship level or just the degree to which they attacked?

I was expecting it tomorrow. I'm actually in the middle of a game. Anyone knows how that will affect my game? I'm about to start the modern age here in a few minutes.

edit: first thoughts, okay I know the UI is a work in progress, but I still prefer the old way of having everything on one screen when loading your game. The screen that shows the leader and civ abilities. It fit on one screen before, why do I have to click through tabs now?

They added the Traditions and Mementos (they should add the Civics as well)

Holy sh** did they make the AI more aggressive? 100 turns peace all over the world, and then triple war declaration and everything went down the drain.
Because I am an idiot and thought I do not have to build many units cause my neighbors are such lovely people. Damn.

Not necessarily - it could be just the result of a complicated relationship web. Attacking an AI (or them declaring war) that’s allied to another one will almost always make that ally join the war. And then if that ally has its own allies… The potential for the domino effect has always been there.

The AI always seems to take advantage of neighbors who's military is weak. It's been in the game for a while now.

Why do these updates always reset my keyboard configurations. I'll say it right now. Putting the quickload right next to the quicksave should be punishable by law. :) Seriously, on a compact keyboard it's easy to hit the wrong F button.

OK thanks for the advice. I was careless and so happy about the friendly independents that I neglected the backstabbing AI neighbors.
So my first 1.2.2 game ended in a furious RAGE QUIT after Spain had conquered ALL of my suzerained city states. Oh boy am I frustrated right now.

Some of the bug fi9xes are mixed in with the features/updates parts, like Shipbuilding mastery granting it's bonuses and allowing ships to naval attack correctly.

That said, more bug fixing is always good.

They added foundation challenges for the DLC civs, both the wonder and the victory challenge. I didn't see it mentioned in the patch notes (or maybe I missed it?).

EDIT: it might have been done in an earlier patch, since I have the victory with Bulgaria already completed? I totally missed it until now.

No that definitely seems new. I think we need a higher level than 50 though because I already maxed out long ago...

Ok! That Nepal change means I now probably have a civ I enjoy playing in modern! Previously they had a cool kit which was required you to skew your city layouts from antiquty in order to take advantage of it. Whew! It'll be way better and less confusing for new players too. Amd I really like Inca's mountain treasure fleets. An economic alternative to Songhai if you don't want to go colonial is really nice.

Then it's probably retroactive until 1.2.1, because I won with Bulgaria in the last patch and it did register. I won with other civs too in earlier patches but those challenges are still uncomplete.

Did they add quest challenges for the DLC leaders, too? Or is it only civ wonder and legacy path challenges?
