Civilizations of Conquests Feature on Gamespot...

The Dutch dilemma from another perspective:
The agricultural trait is not for the Dutch homeland, but for their colonies!

AGR really fits well to Modern Netherlands. This may not be so know on the other side of the ocean, but they do produce a LOT of food on their very limited space (and export most of it to Germany) - tomatoes (a.k.a. The 4th possible state of aggregation for water), cucumbers, beef, and most famous, cheese.

I think both Civs look fine as is. But for those who disagree... why get angry at Atari/Firaxis when you can just crack open the editor and "fix" what you perceive as "wrong"?

Very good point, Stuie. This change in particular would take less than a minute to do.

becasue not having it right limits the amount of people you can play in MP

In MP, just play the unchanged (you did make changes in a scenario rather than screwing up the master biq?) versions that come with the game (or find like minded people).

as for the traits, I should launch a minor war against Atari- those traits are classical greek if anything, and it makes me wonder what Greeces are...

Well, the greeks are probably religious/seafaring. Of course, you could always mod the bizzantines so that they have better traits (like religious/seafaring).

you can play sceanrios in MP?

as for this master biq thing...not sure what that is...but it sounds as if its phrased so that I have the beta- I dont :(

As I said before the traits seem a bit odd but nethertheless are pretty good ones. Sea faring and scientific makes the Byzantines formidable. And the Dutch are going to have an easy time when it comes to food.

Yes, assuming both people have the same scenario.

The Master file is the original game (Civ3 Mod, or whatever). Editing it would change the default game when you load it (I think that is true, anyway).

As for Biq, either its a typo, or the new file type for Conquest exclusive files. In Civ3, they used Bic files, PTW uses Bix files.

I look forward to fighting a naval war w/ the dromons ;)

It does seem like a good unit, but I only use naval combat in a big way from the late industrial age. That said, on a world map it will be most useful in keeping those pesky Romans out of the Meditarranian. What I want to know is how will we get both Ottomans and Byzantium on the world map?

Depends if everyone is in the game. You could give Byzantine Greece, the Ottmans take Turkey. You could start the Seljuk Turks closer to their original starting point, and have them take Byzantine territory.

I don't think you can fit the Greeks, Byzantine, Hittites, and Ottomans at the same time, if that's what you want to know.

the ottomans have a history before taking Constantinople as thire capital ya know... origianally, they were a tribe from the northern blck sea region, with a history going back even farther to the mongolian steps...

Holy ****! You posted but you have a post count of 0, how can this be?

I don't think the Greeks (this is mainly just Athens, as Sparta is the complete opposite) should be considered Religious (Byzantine would be slightly better, though).

English should be changed to seafaring too...i suppose that comes under expansionist though. Its good to see the Dutch in a Civ game finally.

The Greeks could have any number of traits. You could easily justify them being Scientific, Militaristic, Seafaring, Commercial, or Religious.

Concerning the Ottomans, I don't know why most world maps put them starting in Constantinople. There's plenty of room in the Black Sea area for them.

I suppose you could rename the Ottomon capital Ankara and have them in central Turkey, and the Hittites right next to them.
It would be crowded but then West Europe is anyway. Hell, with the Maya and Inca even the Aztecs wont have such an easy time. The only one with hordes or room is mainly Russia, Zulu, China and possibly America. That said the Egyptians can always go south. If tyou actually play a HUGE map like El Mencys then even England has quite a bit of room but its so large it is virtually unplayable even in ancient times, and my computer is pretty fast.
