Civs old and new

But I'm pretty sure the source of all wild horses is the Asian Steppes. I'm pretty sure every nation in history hasn't traded with Mongolia for them.

There are now wild horses in the American West where none would have existed during The Times of the Great Map Generation. That's because it's a portable resouce.

Again, I wouldn't change it for gameplay reasons. It just always struck me as odd.

Nope, the Yukon was in North America for example.
As I understand it for the domestic horse variety they were widespread about 15,000 BC and domesticated around 4000 BC. Long before the horde was golden.
So for map generation I think they did Ok.
Feral horses are domesticated horses put back in the wild. We got a feral horse last year (horrible thing).
It seems most of the evolution of the horse took place in North America.

I'd like to you know (other than gameplay obv which should trump all) why you can't grab those natural horse or wheat resources and take them with you wherever you go. I mean, those are two of the basic building blocks of civilization itself. A horse planted on one spot on the map wouldn't be that useful when you think about it.
As far as horses are concerned, you kinda can "take them with you". You find the resource on one tile, but you can use those horses in any city, cannot you?
