CKS-NES - 'Out of Darkness'

Masada? Anything?

I'm fairly busy atm, consider the NES on hold until further notice. Sorry :(

I can still do stories though, right?

EDIT: If it turns out I shouldn't be, apologies.

On Nehan's Ambition- Part 2
OOC: How do the Garricans know all this? Plot hole...

Nehan was born as the first son of High Chief Kawu Mao, ruler of "Yarauna". A fairly sucessful "politician" (appealing to the warrior class known as the Takumata-Hi was at least slightly different from the politics most Garricans would be used to), he had managed to stay in power by exploiting the rules of Yarauna's "constitution".

Traditionally, the High Chief was appointed by the Takumata-Hi after the deposal of his predecessor, and would continue to reign until he lost a battle. The Takumata-Hi would then conduct a "trial" to determine if he would or would not be deposed. However, these trials were almost always in favor of deposal- warriors who have just lost a battle are usually bitter, and it was in the interests of the Takumata-Hi to not have any High Chief secure in their posistion.

Kawu Mao's strategy was to avoid battle at all costs, while trying to please the Takumata-Hi as much as possible to avoid a direct deposal. As a skilled diplomat, he attempted to appeal to the interests of other High Chiefs to avoid war, and ensure the support of the Chiefs (feudal nobility who controlled the regions of Yarauna, but were unable to oppose a High Chief and the Takumati-Hi together and suceed) in case of a coup. To appease the Takumati-Hi, he conducted constant military training and exercises, living like one of their number in almost identical conditions.

Evidence is fragmentary on the period- there was no writing until much later, so more then this is not known on Nehan's early life (much of it is speculation anyway). It is probable but by no means assertable (there is not sufficent evidence) that Kawu Mao sought to hold onto political power permanently.

But this policy created internal and external tensions. In a way, it could be said, Kawu Mao was living on borrowed time. It was unlikely that both the Takumata-Hi and his neighbours would be content to be at peace with him forever. But if he were to stay in power, he would have to make sure that they were- at least for his lifetime, anyway...

Masada, can you at least comment on my stories?

Rest In Peace... it was a very good idea... i hope that if you have a lot of time and commit yourself to it, you can take up this project again.

I would, but my reputation so far with regular NESes hasn't exactly been that good.

Roll call thread. Please go an post, vote in the poll etc so we know who is active currently in NESing

To catch any people who potentially lurked this thread/had it subscribed in hope of a revival
