Remeber 36hrs to get it (That will be 10am Sunday London Time)

IBT:Its quite obvious this game is no where near done for domination/conquest therefore we might be fighting until the modern age, therefore I switch all muskets to cavs.

1:Rushed aqueduct in varna for 68 gold

4:Trade Banking and Military Tradition to Arabia for navigation and physics

6:We capture Boston!

7:The Maya Declare war on us!

8:Jungle City founded in the jungles, We capture St. Louis!

9:A crapload of Mayan stuff shows up, 14 longbowmen and 5 javelin throwers. Our ancient cavalry stop the invasion forces of 2 longbowmen from the mayans on donut island. After our attack 7 longbowmen and 5 javelin throwers left, 0 deaths for us.

10: Good luck to the next person, more longbowmen are coming and remember they have an attack of 4 and defense of 1 so attack them if u can. I have 2 muskets in that stack along with 5 trebs, in addition to medieval infantry. Plus 4 cavalry, 1 medieval infantry and 1 musket have just arrived on shore to help in the fight.

The Save

:bump:

@ sir clive - remember "plinking" from Clive 01? ;)

Lets get Nationalism and Steam Power and go rip up the AI. It's an idiot preference, but I likes rifles instead of muskets to defend cannons. It's time to build some cav armies and go pound the AIs.

BTW, where are the tanks? ;) :lol:

2nd BTW, may we have helicopters, marines and paratroopers if the game lasts that long :crazyeye:

Is it my turn?

I'm going to have to ask you to skip me for now. I might be able to play sometime mid-week, but someone else should play until than.

OK - I've got it then. Sorry I haven't been around for the last few days . I have had builders in for the last week or and then the boiler packed up Sunday night and my Mother is going into hospital for an operation tomorrow so it's all been a bit hectic.

Should be able to play 5 turns tonight and 5 turns tomorrow hopefully.

Haven't looked at the save yet . Sounds like the first priority will be to see what the situation is with the Mayans.

Louis , if you want to take it after I have played , let me know and we can swap in the roster.

Pre turn check

Lux can go down from 10% to zero without anyone rioting. We're now making
53 gpt.
Agree with AK that nationalism and steam power would be good. We currently
have 4 turns at 60% sci to Navigation. Most of core towns with Baracks are building
Cav.

We have quite of lux to trade - 2 wine, 3 dye, 1 spice, 2 ivory.
Decide to give Arabia Dyes, Wines and Ivory for Printing Press and Music Theory
and all their gold (55)

We're now just down Magnetism to Spain and even with everyone else.
Get Magnetism from Spain for Dyes + 680g.

We are now joint tech leaders. Switch to Economics (due in 8)

We are at war with both Maya and America but it's a bit of a long
haul to get troops across

Have also noted YanksGiants advice re killing a few longbow.

Hit enter - Americans ask for an audience. They will give us 3 (San Fran, Houston
and Denver) of their 4 cities for peace so I accept. We can now concentrate on the Mayans

The Mayans capture Houston but we will have it back in a couple of turns.

Constantinople Aquedect->longbow
Olly Cav->Cav
Ironland Cav->Cav
Pelargir Cav->Cav
Huaras Barracks->Cav
Vilcas MI->Galleon

Americans start building Bach's
Arabia and Spain both now have ToG

Wasn't sure what the Palace prebuild in Macchu Picchu was for but it can
now build Bach in 1 and only lose 10 shields and this will be useful
for the WW so I build it.

1255 AD (1) Kill a few Mayan longbows. Try and find the best places to
move the cav too but I am struggling. Switch Dallas from Barracks to Galleon.

IT San Fran gets razed by the Mayans.
Arabs ask for an audience. They want Wm +270g for WM . I'll wait a bit.

Macchu Picchu Bachs -> cav
Juli Cav -> Cav

Mecca completes Newtons
Maya start Magellans

1260 AD (2) Kill more longbows. Washington cav->settler. Still hard work getting anything
over towards the Mayans since most of our production is on the Island
furthest away. Switch some of the Barracks builds to Harbours / galleons / cannons.
Most of these towns will never be productive enough to build huge amounts of military and
we have to pay maintenance on barracks

IT - Cuzco Cav->Cav
Tiwanaku Cav->Cav
Vitcos Cav->Cav
Eglarest Cav->Cav

We want to settle the new lands between us and the inca so I rush
settler in Washington for 48g.

1265 AD (3) General worker / Cav movement. We still don't have enough troops
in reserve near Boston / St Louis to take Houston / Lazapa and the other
Mayan towns yet.

IT - No trades possible
Washington Settler->Cannon
Nasca Barracks->Musket

1270 AD (4) There are still a few Mayan Jags / Longbows hanging around near
Boston. Have 5 Elite cav wins but no leader :(

I'm going to add a few of the
captured workers to smaller towns as we have roaded / mined quite a lot now.
I know we need workers when we get rail but the captured ones are slow anyway
and we can use more growth.

I go through and M/M the towns. Should have done this before really. There are quite
a few towns which should be concentrating on growth but instead are
managed for shields. Eg detroit is producing 9 shields at size 3 but 8 of those are
lost to corruption. We might as well try to get these sorts of towns to grow
bigger now. Rusha warrior in Denver as it is undefended. Will rush a Chasqui
next time so that we can explore.

IT Arabia and Spain have ToG - we have nothing to trade. Others have nothing
to trade us for printing press, Banking, Astronomy or Magnetism.
Seattle Library->Marketplace
Vilcabamba Settler->Cannon
Denver Warrior->Warrior

1275 AD (5) Not a lot. Cavs attack Mayans but don't make too much progress.

I have had some pretty lousy luck with the RNG. 6-3-3 cav against 2-2-1 javs
should have gone far better than it did (and I had hill / mountain defensive
bonus most of the time)

I might have a chance to finish the other 5 tonight but I am not sure at
the moment

Here's the Mayan border

Black cross there is a settler about to found a city
Red cross is where next settler will head for.

Clive2_1275AD.JPG

We are now joint tech leaders. Switch to Economics (due in 8)

Please start another prebuild somewhere for Smith's.

Merging captured workers into cities increases their flip risk. I once merged one into my FP city and the thing flipped on me 3 turns later.

Nice job on the trades.

Sorry - that was really daft not realising that the prebuild was for Smith's :nono: :aargh:
I think I may have set another prebuild up - I will check it out.

I actually played another 1.5 turns last night after the post so only have about 3.5 turns to go - will post tonight

Well that was about the lousiest set of turns I have played.

Screwed up the Smith's prebuild, couldn't do anything with the Incans and generally didn't get anything of note done :. Added to that I had some lousy RNG luck (although I am not making excuses - I know it was crap)

I suppose we are still reasonably close tech wise.

Sorry about that all - I blame it on the decarators having been here for the last 2 weeks and my central heating having broken down .

Here's the turn log and save

IT - ForgottenWhere Cav->Cav

1280 AD (6) Change some mines to irrigation in corrupt cities to get more growth.
Found Sausa.

IT Spanish request an audience
They offer TM for TM +50 . Can only beat them down to 45g but decide to take it.
Mayans kill a Cav :(
Donut Aqueduct->Marketplace
We get a Palace expansion

I'm having really bad luck with Cavs vs Javs/Archers. I'm going to start
moving the trebs down there with a couple of defensive units
next turn to soften them up a bit.

Economics is due in 1 - Sci down to 30. We make +148g this turn.

1285 AD (7) Knight finally beats a Mayan archer without losing a hp :)
Injured elite cavs go back to St Louis to heal

IT - Lose another Knight.
Cuzco Cav->Cav
Varna Settler->Library
Olly Cav->Cav
Pelargir Cav->Cav
Bithrombar Library->Aqueduct
Jungle City worker->worker

Democracy due in 8 turns at 70% we have 844g and make 14gpt
We get ToG + 40g from Arabia for Economics (3 out of 5 already have it
so better get in before someone else does)
Get incense + Wm for Dyes, Printing Press and Wines from Japan

1290 AD (8) Found Tambo Colorado in unused land NW of Varna . Finish playing for
tonight

NOw returned - Really annoyed now I have realised I missed out on getting Smith's by wasting the
prebuild :( We do not have anywhere that is shield rich - our core
cities can only produce about 13-15 spt which means Smith's will take ages
to build. I guess we will just have to try to capture it now :(
A lone Mayan bowman (4-4-1) appears 1 tile NW of buffalo.
We have a 4-2-1 MI defending buffalo and Jungle City is completely
undefended. This does not look good.Move musket from
Eldande which leaves it undefended but it is less vulnerable. Hope I can get a
couple more troops up there ASAP. Knight moves from Detroit but
can't quite get to Eldande.Rush MI in Eldande and MI in Detroit.
Elite cav kills archer nr Houston and still no leader. Cav retreats.

IT - Buffalo survives (no thanks to me :( )

Macchu Picchu Cav->Cav
Ironclad Cav->Cav
Vitcos Cav->Cav
Detroit MI->worker
Heraklea Court->worker
Eldalonde MI->Walls

Arabs are building Smith's
No trades available. I did think about using some of our cash to rush buy
stuff on our second island where almost all our shields are but seeing as I have
screwed up so badly so far this turn I am going to leave it up to the
next player.

Try and see if I can switch tiles to increase food production on the second
island - little room for improvement until the remaining wetlands
have been cleared. Switch some of the coastal towns to Harbour in a vain
attempt to get them growing more quickly.

1295 AD (9) General movement. Not a lot happens. It looks like Dzibilchaltin
might be undefended. If so we will cpture it next turn.

IT - MI defends against Sword and wins-> elite. Then gets killed by Mayan
Knight :(
Juli cav->cav
Mayan's complete Magellans
Spanish start Smith's

Arabia now has Democracy, Spain has nationalism. No trades possible.

1300 AD (10) Dzibilchaltin has a reg (121) spear . Of course it redlines
our vet (421) knight and escapes without a scratch :)
Poxy Mayans have settled Tazumal right by where our settler was going.
Move the galley containing the settler back towards Boston.

Sorry that was so crap :(

Next player note there are 3 galleys containing 6 cavs just by Huaras

Saved Game

Got the save, will take a look at it tonight.

0) 1300: Swap Cuzco and Pelargir builds. Cuzco, by MM for max production, can get Adam Smith in 34. What is that Spanish city Merida doing in the old American lands? Why are we researching Demo? Are we planning to switch to Demo in the middle of a war? Why was Tambo Colorado even built? :confused: Hlobane switched to Lib and rushed. I'm not getting flip by some damn Arab colony. There is not enough MM going on. Max for production! We need an MP in Philly.

1) 1305: Mayans burn down Denver, big deal. Mayans send a knight against mine, mine wins and produces leader! :cool: HTF does a redlined pike kill a healthy mace??? HOW? :gripe: Anyway, Tezumal (?) is razed. Army built in Boston. Take out units on mountain near Houston, lost a cav doing so. Upgrade several swords to maces.

2) 1310: Vitcos starts epic. HTF can two spears drive away two Ancients? This just ain't right. Army takes Houston.

3) 1315: We take Dzibi (long name).

4) 1320: Mayans take back Houston. We come back and raze it. Demo comes in, since Spain has national, we start medic. We raze Cuello. Upgrade galleys to galleons.

Looking back, probably shoulda went for Steam to obsolete the Templars. For some reason thought we had it.

5) 1325: Send a galley south to pick up ancients from Donutland. Send a galley with cav north to deal with Ake once and for all.

6) 1330: Raze Coba. Turns out to be camped on iron. Building settlers in the homeland to replace the Mayan cities.

7) 1335: Mayan knight kills cav, takes trebs, then moves them next to my cav and leaves them unprotected! Gotta luv stupid AI. :lol: We take Lazapa, as it is small.

8) 1340: Raze Piedras Niegras and another Mayan town.

9) 1345: Upgraded Sir DBear to cav.

10) 1350: Take Ake. Raze Lagartero. Gather troops outside Uxmal. Rename Sausa to Canal City.

Have galleon of settlers heading over to colonize the razed Mayan lands. Uxmal should be taken, then try to negotiate a peace. There are many cities in danger of flipping. I know you guys don't like building libs and such, but I think we need them. Mayans have so much culture that we have little if any chance of hanging on to any cities, even small ones. :sad:

Glad to see you got the leader we deserved DBear . I must have had 10-12 Elite victories without one in my turn.

I've never complained about the RNG before and my attack plans are sometimes suspect but I have never ever had such a bad run of luck in combat as I did on my turns. Knights / Cavs were getting absolutely hammered when on the attack against archers and spears.

Ah well - that's the way it goes sometimes.

I like libraries - trouble was they were going to take an age to build on our second island so I didn't think they were feasible.
Our shield production is lousy. I know I didn't MM too well during my turns but we are struggling to get even 10 spt out of most of our towns and until we get Rail / Factories we are still going to struggle. Most of the towns on the second island only make 1-2 spt after corruption.

I agree with negotiating peace soon - I just can't see us producing enough otherwise. We need to build up the core for production and get harbours on the coast for more pop / gold and we can't do that if we are relying on our core to pump out nothing but military.

Hopefully I will be able to play a better set of turns next time round - however the builders (who were supposed to be finished tomorrow) will now be here until next Weds so I may still be a bit stressed out :(

Sorry to give you such a lousy handover DBear - well done on getting us back on the straight and narrow and I am sure Admiral Kutzov can continue the job !
