Clive2 - Random Monarch

Just checked the save.

Doesn't look too good on the front line - we only have 2 swords and
5 cats.

Might be a bit risky trying to take Zimbabwe with that.

Checked what is available for peace - all we can get is Isandhlwana (which is pretty useless) + 6g. Can't see the point.

Is it worth rushing those swords in Olly and MP ? Even so it is going to probably be towards the end of the next set of turns before we can take Zimbabwe.

We need those spices soon as happiness is still a problem. At the moment it's going to be ages until we get them if we have to wait for the settler in the south to complete and get there (looks like 6 turns for settler to complete + 14 roaded tiles to get there = 11 turns in total)

Can we afford to rush a settler anywhere closer to the spot ? Being able to turn down the lux would help a lot

Hi all

We seem to have slowed down a bit recently.

I would like to keep this moving so I am going to be slightly more strict in imposing a skip for failed 'gotits' and game submissions since (although I have limited experience in SGs) I believe a slow game will result in rapid loss of interest and therefore a dead game :(

It's a little difficult (especially as I am a relative SG newbie) deciding what the limit should be , so I would be grateful if you could all post which timezone you are in so I can avoid skipping people when they are asleep :)

Got it. Playing soon.

How soon is soon ChuckDizzle ? :)

Am afraid you are going to be skipped if you haven't posted by tomorrow morning (i.e 10 am London time - I am on vacation this week , I don't get up that early : ) )

YanksGiant - please confirm you can pick up if we don't hear from ChuckDizzzle.

This soon. Sorry it's a little late.
Turn:
Pre: set Sci to 80%, currency in six. Taxman in Ollan for happiness.
1) 430BC: Cori: Rax-->sword., our sword kills zulu archer.
2) 410BC: Vilcas: settler-->settler, Machu Pichu: sword-->sword
3) 390bc: sci to 70. not much other than that.
4) 370BC: our sword defends successfully against a zulu archer. Ollan and Tiwanku build swords, start more swords. Sci to 60.
5) 350BC: Discover currency, begin construction on 80, lux at 20.
6) 330BC: Trade Currency and Maps to spanish for 35gp and construction. America has monarchy and will take any two of our techs for it. I hesitate to trade, though.
7) 310BC: Our sword kills an archer.
8) 290BC: Cori: sword->sword. vilcamba: spear->worker. Vitcos founded.
9) 270BC: kill two archers.
10) 250BC: Machu Pichu: sword->sword.

A couple of notes from looking at the save.

1) Machu Picchu can have the clown switched to a taxman and still remain happy

2) We now have the all important spices within reach but they are not doing us any good since they are not roaded yet. We should stop the 2 workers roading S SW of Vitcos immediately and get the spices on line

3) We have too many specialists which is preventing growth Machu Picchu will take 15 turns to grow , whereas it could be producing 4 excess food per turn instead of 2. We should use the luxury slider where possible rather than employ specialists. Growth is very important early on. Would it be worth switching MP to a granary ?

4) We can build embassies at the following cost
Arabia 60, Byz 39 , Spain 82
Might be worth considering.

lurker's comment: disclaimer - my input is based on the posts, not a look at the save :crazyeye:
1. get monarchy. nobody else will sell those two techs to abe? use 'em or lose 'em
2. build military, kill Zulu
3. hook up lux
4.
We should use the luxury slider where possible rather than employ specialists. Growth is very important early on.
concur
5. Too soon to build embassies. Let them come to you or wait until you have cash to spare
6. It's nice to feed the lurkers lots of screenies ;)

just got the file everything looks good plus we have a nice attack force to hit Zimbabwae.

IBT: Americans and Arabs both have monarchy, I trade mathematics and code of Laws for Monarchy and 2 gold, abe's broke now ;)
Next I trade Monarchy for 132 from Spain, and now Spain is broke too.
I trade mathematics for 46 gold from the byzantines and byzantines broke.
I hit enter.

Turn 1:
Tiwanaku sword->sword
Nice! Zulus complete The Mausoleum of Mausollos in Zimbabwe, itll do nicely in our empire ;)
Byzantines building The Great Lighthouse, Spanish building The Hanging Gardens
I micromanage Cuzco and move citizen on lake to plain so we get Statue of Zues in 4 turns instead of 5.

Turn 2:
Ollantaytambo Sword->Sword
Pelargir Sword->Sword
Our Glorious Armies Take over Zimbabwe and get Mausoleum of Mausollos! Only bad news is our cats can't go north due to jungle terrain

Turn 3:
Vilcabamba Worker->Worker
Corihuayrachina Sword->sword

IBT: Statue of Zues Completed in Cuzco
CapturingZimbabweClive2.JPG

Turn 4:
Cuzco->Sword
Back in Zimbabwe I move a sword to attack an archer north of it, if we beat the archer the 2 archers west of it will have to cross a river and fight in a jungle, archer dead and sword loses only 1 hp. Lets hope the comp is dumb.

IBT: Comp beats a sword with the archer across the river in a jungle.

Turn 5:
Tiwanaku: Sword->Sword
Machu Picchu Sword->Sword
Vilcas Settler->Galley
Spanish Complete Great Wall

IBT: Washington Completes Hanging Gardens

Turn 6:
Vilcabamba Worker->spear

Turn 7:
Cuzco: Sword->sword
Pelargir Sword->Sword
Trade Code of Laws and 50 gold to spanish for literature

Turn 8:
Ollantaytambo Sword->Sword
Cuzco produes an ancient cavalry
Corihuayrachina Sword->Sword

Turn 9:
Tiwanaku: Sword->Sword
Vitcos Spear-Spear

Turn 10:
Cuzco Sword->Sword
Machu Picchu Sword->Sword
Meet the Mayans! They have 11 cities, they are also 4 techs behind us. they have silks and gems with 1 extra each.
We destroy Intombe
Well thats my turns. I set it up so the next person can finish the zulu with ease, the spearmen and settler should go up 1 square and found a city.
Also the 2 swords by pelargir can either go north or attack bapedi.

Kick Some Zulu Ass

I note from the save that we are still in despotism. What was the point in trading for monarchy if we weren't going to use it? I think we should've switched after the SoZ was built.

OTOH, Feudalism is coming up. Never tried that one, but as most of our towns are small and will continue to be so with all the jungle and marsh around, it might be worth a try, since it would provide much military support.

We should decide which government to pursue.

Question - What is wrong the the following screenshot ?

vitcos10BC.JPG

Answer - we still don't have spices roaded :cry: :cry: Lux is currently at 30% and we still don't have access to the spices which is costing us valuable gold.

Re government - I have never tried Feudalism either. I tend to use Monarchy in wartime and Democracy in peacetime

Feudalism is only good in rare cases. Some SGs (I'm playing in one) actually have it as a variant that you need the be in Feudalism at a certain point. For this game, Republic if you'll just be doing some warfare (or really fast wars) and Monarchy if not (but it could be kind of interesting to learn how to combat war weariness in Republic.)

Might as well road spices, it's in your borders.

Well, after a spell of no posting (it's hard to type without a keyboard) I'm back, and I see that it's my turn. I'll play soon.
