Clive2 - Random Monarch

I know 7 is big but I don't want this be abandoned and I have a feeling that there may be more dropouts.... but maybe not.

keep this going. We have at least 4 players to rock n roll.

Be strict on the 24 got it. We'll cull this down to the serious "idiots' in no time. Oops, I forgot, this one isn't mine. Anyway, SirClive, i'm in this to the end. i suspect viper is as well and Louis and Dbear look like serious players. Let's finish this. P.S. Where are the tanks :lol:

Pre-turn:
Pretty much change all culture improvements in favor of Courthouses. Do we have a chance at Sun Tzu? I don't think I'll change it either way.

(1) 560AD - We have a lot of units we want to upgrade. Start heading them south. Since I don't think we are going to be at war with Spain for the next 20 turns, I trade our ivory for 6g and 12gpt. It will also give us Cash to upgrade our units.
(2) 570AD - Pretty much the same
(3) 580AD - Discover Spanish city north of Heraclea. Build Chuquiapo. City doesn't have much use just yet.
(4) 590AD - Machu Pichu - Temple --> Pike (escort Pike for our offensive stacks). Upgrade 3 Cats to Trebs
IBT: Americans demand Monotheism. I'm not sure if we're ready for a war just yet. Tell them no, they cave. Finish Invention, start Gunpowder at 60% sci (we need to upgrade many units).
(5) 600AD - Upgrade another pair of Cats. Spain already has invention (doesn't make much sense unless they researched it themselves at the same time).
(6) 610AD - Soon I'll upgrade swords too. Added some reenforcements to the island in the south with Chuquiapo. I'm going to call the island "Donut island" because of the lake in the middle (and its simpler ;) ). Rename Chuquiapo "Donut Island City" as well. :D
(7) 620AD - I'm seriously considering dropping science significantly. Although Gunpowder is nice, I'd like to upgrade our swords quicker. Our Fleet is assembling slowly as well. One ship is transfering troops to Donut Island, one is exploring spanish territory, and one is looking at American territory. In about 10 turns, we'll probably have 7 Galleys, though. 14 units should be enough to take Seattle and march to Washington. Dallas and Memphis (in the south) can have troops landed ahead of time, and won't need naval support. I'll know more once I finish exploring American territory. I'm going to spread some of our troops around for MP. I hope you won't have too much trouble finding them.
(8) 630AD - Pretty much the same. I'm starting to upgrade Swords to MDIs. Ships are the priority, as it seems like we have enough regular units. One thing, Toledo and Vitoria are two Spanish cities building Sun Tzu and Knight's Templar (something to keep an eye on).
(9) 640AD - Load some more troops to head south. Exploring Spanish and American territories some more.
IBT: Spain completes Zeus. Set to Leo's (although we might want something else).
(10) 650AD - If I drop science another 10% we could almost upgrade two swords a turn. Just a thought. Upgrade another sword. I've decided we should keep any regular swords for MP. It isn't worth upgrading them. There is an Elite Swordsman. I'm 90% certain upgrading him will demote him to Veteran. If we want a GL we should keep him a Swordsman (I was going to rename him, but I already moved him).

That's it. In 6 turns we'll have 7 or 8 Galleys. I think we already have units to fill them too. You might want to consider building more improvements, but the entire eastern coastline needs to be building Galleys.

A pair of screenshots.

Good idea. Upgrading an elite drops them to vet. OTOH if a unit has already created a leader, they can be upgraded, become vets and have a chance to create another leader.

@Dbear, do you want it or should I take it?

@all - I propose that anyone who posts a got at the appropriate time is in. After everyone who has not posted a got it is out

@clive - hope you don't feel I'm usurping any of your perogatives here. If you do, please advise.

Glad we have got going again !!

Haven't looked at the save yet - just got back from a school reunion, Far too much alcohol and it is 11-45pm and work tomorrow so there is no way anything sensible is going to happen tonight :(

I've got it and will start playing my turns about 8pm London time tomorrow.

Will try to post my thoughts before then.

Revised roster

Noldodan
Louis XXIV (just played)
Sir Clive (up)
DBear (on deck)
Admiral Kutzov
Viper275
YanksGiant87 (out - back Weds)

Looks like we overlapped AK - I have got it and will definitely play some (if not all ) tomorrow.

I've just had a quick look at the map - am inclined to stay peaceful for at least the first 5 turns (if possible) , build up galleys and troops and try to uncover some more of the map.

For me America still seems to be worth going after when we do decide to attack.

They are relatively weak and there are plenty of BG and grassland all around
Miamik / Seattle / New York . We should be able to make these areas relatively productive pretty quickly.

More of a worry is that we have 14 workers and 23 cities. I normally try to have around 2 workers per city. We have lots of jungle which needs clearing and we still have a number of cities which are working unimproved tiles so we need more roading / minig quick (IMHO) ! Vilcas will now be set to constant worker production (1 every 2 turns) . It would be nice to get Palrgir or Tiwanaku up to 10 spt so that they can pump out a worker every turn but it doesn't look possible at the moment

That is an important worry, Sir Clive. More workers is definitely a good idea. I am slowly becoming an idiot (AK's fault, I think ;) ) and I can't see how Vilcas can produce a worker every 2 turns (keep in mind you lose 1 pop each time you build a worker, so the city needs to grow too.) I do know how you can have Pelargir do that, though. Let them borrow Machu Piccu's wheat and have them work a mined mountain (forest will be fine right now.) Then add people to the 2 food, 1 shield tiles until you have 5 shields per turn (keep the food per turn to 5, too.) BTW Pelargir needs a Granary too for that. Make sure that it doesn't grow past size 6 (the same turn the worker is built is fine) or the food box will take too long to fill.

DBear/Louis XXIV are right on the troops, upgrade Elite* units but not Elite (of course, if it's, like, a Horseman and you're in the Industial Age, you're probably best off upgrading him unless you're fighting a backward AI, although I guess a horseman wouldn't be bad against Cavalry if the Cavalry is defending.)

You're quite right viper. I did say I had consumed far too much alcohol and obviously wan't thinking straight last night :crazyeye:

OK - I intended to start playing about 8pm London time , but I have only just got back so may not be able to play the full 10 tonight.

I 'll post a turnlog tonight irrespective of how far I get but may keep turnlog short in order to play as many turns as possible

Remember that the Elite Sword is in a city with a bunch of other swords. Get him out as soon as possible so he doesn't accidentally upgrade with Shift-U (not that you have enough gold for shift-u).

Well - I managed the 10 turns :)

Preturn - production will be focussed on Galleys and workers.

Hlobane is building Courthouse due in 64 - switch to worker
Pelargir will switch to workers when it has built MI due in 1
All other build orders look good.

Everyone else has republic except Japan - trade Monotheism, Wines
and spices to America for Republic + Dyes.
I know this means we can't attack America for 20 turns but we still
have some exploring / building to do and the lux wil be useful.
We are now down Chivalry to Spain and up in tech on everyone else.

No point in selling Mono to anyone else - we can only get 12g max

Hit enter.

Spain demand we retreat - I comply

We get a few WLTKD days

Lux can go down to 0% . We now make 42 gpt. sci -> 70% means 17 gpt and
gunpowder now in 8 rather than 10

660 AD (1) - try to redistribute troops to make sure all towns are
adequately defended

Isabella wants to renegotiate Furs + 2gpt for Spices and wines.
Don' want to hack her off (and can't get Chivalry for anything )
so keep deal + get 35g

IT - Tiwanaku MI -> MI

670 Ad (2) - Not a lot

IT - Pelargir worker -> granary - although we need workers , Pelargir
needs a granary and it will only take 8 turns. Donut island - Worker -> walls
Spain now have gunpowder. We have it due in 5 . Can't see any point in changing research

680 Ad (3) - Galleys uncover a few more sea squares.

IT Zimbabwe builds courthouse. Now makes 5 spt so set it to build worker every 2 turns
Olly MI->MI
Eglarest worker->worker.
The RNG is lousy to us , we lose 3 exploring galleys :(

690 AD (4) - Not a lot

IT Ironland Galley->Galley
Vilcas Galley->Galley
Vilcbamba Galley->harbour
Nasca Galley->worker
Juli Galley->Galley

America have a worker for sale , but they want Ivory for it - decline.

700 AD (5) - General movement - galleys uncover a few more squares
without sinking but it is hard work !

IT - Decide to buy embassy from Spain for 66 G .

Madrid is size 12 has Barracks, Granary, Temple, Market , Library, Walls
Cathedral, Colloseum, Harbour, Pyramids, Collosus , Great Wall.
Prod 16 spt , Leos due in 23 turns

Has garrison of 9 troops.
Lux 1 wine, 2 furs, 1 incense, 1 spices, 1 ivory.
1 Iron

Zimbabwe worker->worker
Smyrna Galley->worker
Brithrombar worker->worker

710 AD (6) - workers work , galleys explore.

IT We learn gunpowder. Spain have Chivalry but we can't get it off them so
decide it is a better bet for research than either Theology or Chemistry.
Switch to Chiv, due in 7
Tiwanaku MI->MI
Lose another couple of exploring galleys :(

Nobody has much gold - Maya 7, Arabia 5, America 5, Japan 1, Spain 0

We're down chiv to Spain, up at least one tech on everyone else.

Build embassy with Japan for 51 G

Kyoto is building Market (due in 3) has temple , library and colloseum
is size 6 but still needs a clown to keep happy.
Has 1 fur, 4 incense, 1 iron.

Japanese have some good land and look very weak. Unfortunately we
still don't have a safe sea route over to them so I am going to assume
the Americans will be the easiest to attack . I'm therefore going to start moving
troops over to Juli to prepare for attack

720 AD (7) MOre of the same

IT - Zimbabwe worker->worker
Maya now has Chivalry. It would take Ivory, Wines and Gunpowder to get it . Seeing as
we will have it in 6 turns anyway I decline.
We can get Silks OR gems for Ivory and wines
(but not both). Seeing as we are happy enough I decide not to go for this either

We coould get horses from America but it would cost us Ivory+Gunpowder.

I guess we are better off waiting and taking them by force

730 AD (8) Troops move towards Juli to prepare for American invasion

IT - Olly MI ->Library (could do with a border expansion)
Ironland Gellay ->Aqueduct.

We get a palace expansion.
Maya start Knight's Templar

740 AD (9) More of the same

IT - We have Chivalry due in 5. However we don't have horses.
We could get Chivalry, Horses, Silks and Gems from the Maya for
Ivory. Gunpowder and wines.

We could instead take Horses for Ivory and wines
I will leave it up to the next player to decide - if we are going
to attack America soon we can capture their horses anyway.

I'll leave it up to the next player to decide since I only have
one more turn to play.

750 AD (10) More movement of troops towards Juli

Sorry - hit enter by mistake :) (That's what comes of playing at 00-30 after
a night out on the beer :( )
Zimbabwe worker->worker, Vilcas Galley->Galley, Nasca worker->worker,
Spanish start Sistine chapel

Summary - we have a few more workers and are managing to slowly clear
wetlands / jungle. Our military looks fairly strong and we should be able to
attack America as soon as the trade deal expires.

Spain are still looking pretty strong culturally.

Dealk with the Americans expires in about 10 turns . As soon as it does let's attack !
Perhaps we could bring the Mayans in as allies and then use them to
help us if/ when we have a go at spain.

Map / save to follow

Got the save, I'd like to try it tonight. The weekend's going to be chaotic, as I plan on upgrading to DSL soon, but need to move some rooms around to get it.

Question. Why are we mustering forces near Juli? I would rather take out Donut Island first. Or perhaps a two-front war, since the AI is incapable of handling them.

Since we have more units than Galleys, I would suggest putting about 5 or 6 units in Donut Island to take out those cities when war is declared.

lurker's comment: This is a very good idea, that island SHOULD be underdefended and it would be easier to send units down there now :goodjob: good luck in the war guys! glad to see this thing rolling again
