cMM2 - STRANDED (easy level, tough map)

Alright, opening moves: I suggest moving the settler straight west. If we found the city on that tile this WILL waste 1 food in the long run from the tobacco, but we cdan use the additional beaker for research very well.
As long as we have no military we will not pop barbs from huts - I suggest we go slow on building troops. A granary ASAP? The bigger the cities the more beakers we have for research.

Ok Carlos MM, I think you got me next on the list. You know my email so send it on when you're done, sabo10@yahoo.com
By the way, I think when everyone is done with their turn they should post a screenie so everyone can give their input and see how the map is coming along, what does everyone think?

sabO. I'll psot the save here, with screenies and a detailed log, no worries.

what do you think on the opening moves?

Carlos,
Your first move sounds good, we will also get an extra grassland to work with for faster growth. Are you sure though that we won't pop barbs if we have no military? I could have sworn a couple of years and many upgrades and patches ago that I popped a barb camp when I founded my first city, of couse maybe I'm thinking of Civ II. :)

ok, as I'm trying really hard toget into the SG scene, if you want me, I'll join But I am really new to SG games so be gentle lol
So does this mean we are going to lose you from the story telling scene for awhile?

If we're really starting on an island and if we heed Doc's words of caution, we should plan on a super-tight build. This would make it unnecessary and also imprudent to waste any bonus tile of any kind... every whale, fish, game, and tobacco should be utilized. Therefore, I think the first move should be to get the settler or the worker on a hill (to scout the area better), and then plan on settling hills and plains while leaving grassland and especially any kind of bonus grassland free for our workers to improve and our citizens to live on. As many cities as posible should be costal, as those cities will have the greatest number of uncontested tiles to expand into as the population grows.

what do you propose Danz 3 tiles diaganal and 2 north, south, east, and west, or 4 and 3?

I think the Great Lighthouse should be our No.1 priority! Then Great Library, if feasible.
For this, a slightly less dense build that max is advisable - we need TWO productive cities!

I vote for moving the worker to the hill SE. If my fog gazing skills are up to scratch that will reveal three grassland tiles in that direction hopefully with some bonus resources on it. After that I'd probably prefer to build our first city within reach of the game tile, seeing as how it's the only bonus food resource we can see right now.

I'd rather not have the game in the initial 9 - we can go coastal if we are patient enough to wait 10 turns for border expansion and still have the game available for the first city.

the worker move sounds good to me - the earlier we knoe what little land we have the better

how many cities do you think we'll be able to fit into the landmass? as CarlosMM said he'd like 2 high production cities so we can grab wonders so how many else do you think we'll be able to squeeze in?

Great Lighthouse would be nice...

no idea, as I do not know how big and fertile the island is! I fear though that we will NOT be able to get a city that can build FP.

OK, I have started the game on Monarch level and moved the worker:

I favor the red dot for the capital, as I think the island has little room up&right, where a city could go on the blue dot or the ?, depending on tiles/ possible fish.
Then two more on the big blue smudges.

I would move the red dot up one tile to the NE to get immediate access to the BG. As for the second city, I would suggest between the game and wheat for a potential settler/worker factory on the short term. On the long term it could be a shield powerhouse with the hills.

keiji, red up right means probably (?) not much room for a city near the blue dot! I am afraid there's only 3 tiles up there in the fog in all!

Also, I would at all costs avoid non-coastal cities.

5/6 votes for Gigamesh :D

Emperor is doable.

Originally wanted to go for any other victory, but one of the Civs ran away, and was at 51/60 land/pop...

Never could build the FP, and never had a Golden Age.
Built the GLib, ToE and UN.

FYI, I have the seed extracted; if someone wants it, pm me (don't want to post it, since some infos could be considered a spoiler).

And FWIW, I founded the capital on the hill SE.

oh, so it DID work to play, save, use 'Play last world'? great!

and congrats on your win :D
