cMM2 - STRANDED (easy level, tough map)

Carlos, I edited my post about the settler, read the last sentence. We know there is a wheat down south so it may be worth the Gamble... Input anyone????

I can see what may be the perfect spot for a settler, at the tile just South east of the wheat... If I was playing by myself that is what I would probably do, then use that city for a worker factory..

sabo, I think we shoudl know about hwales and fish in the west and southwest before settling near the wheat. It may well be that the corner to the west offers a good city sight that does not interfere woith your suggestion, but it may also be we do NOT want to settle close tot he 'corner' (as I suspect there will not be mush land to the west) and this might mean a different spot for the wheat city.

I think exploration here is a key element for not wasting settlers! What unit you do it with and when - your call!

Maybe you're right, I'm used to playing continents on a large map (I forgot we were on an Island. So I will build a worker next. I'll do my turns tonight (about midnight your time)

Turn 1 2550BC - changed capitol from Temple to worker since we need to explore and a temple won't do much good with a size 2 city

Turn 2 2510BC - Created worker and moved him NE of wheat, nothing interesting yet.

Turn 3 2470 Lookie here another wheat and maybe some fresh water

Turn 4 2430 Nada

Turn 5 2390 moved worker SW of southern wheat, other worker finished mine, starting him to road to bonus tile and plant a mine there too, This Island looks like it might be pretty small :(

Turn 6 2340BC - I think we're screwed as far as having alot of expansion room. I"m not going to do anything till I get some input from you guys, what do you think we should do next?

well, what can I say but  - ocean already?

I think the next unti from Ur should take a detour to see the western coast - whales? Fish?

then we msut decide ona final settling plan. For now this calls for a city next to the Gold on a coastal hill, I'd say. The wheat area settling will indeed depend on the western coast.

thats nasty, well and truely boxed in :(

Anyone any good at dotmaps?

You think it'd be possible to squeeze out a FP on this island? I can't remember the exact numbers required to get it on the various map sizes.

I can't really see us getting more than 6, maybe 7 cities on this island. FP would be at least 8. Founding cities to get above the number, then disbanding is an exploit!

We gotta get off this island, gotta get Great Lighthouse and - if we can (yes, there's a good chance) - Great Library!

FYI, I had only 7 cities. No acceptable spot for #8 :(

that's what I suspected. I am also suspecting that there is at least one small island to settle somewher (if I know the civ map generator at all), or maybe two..... maybe the Great Lighthouse will give us a chance to get the FP!

So for now you guys suggest moving the worker to the hills just south of the Goodie hut, then start roading and mining UR with him?

hm, I think we can let border expansion pop the hut, right?

so yes, why not use it to scout'n'road?

Am I correct that you have NO fresh water? This start is rough enough, but without water it really going to be tought to grow you cities and get the hills in use.

indeed, looks like we will be parched. That means we must use all possible food boni from fishes so we can use a few hills.

can't wait till we have sea travel, I smell land to the south east

Yes, I will move worker to the east and then start some roading and mining,

PS.. but how much more land do you guys think that we have to the south?

Strongly agree. The game is not "let's find the BEST spots for our cities". It is "let's mae use of everything we have to build the greatest number of VIABLE cities". If that means a city on a hill without any fod bonuses tht never grows past size 2, that's fine! As long as it takes advantage of coast and sea squares that other cities ca not, it's still worth settling!

For example, looking at the attached picture, we could take advantage of the desert by settling in it (2 food) instead of working it (1 food). We could also put everything on the coast and still be able to reach every single land tile. This easily gets us 8 cities. Depeding on what bonus water tiles we find around Fog City, we could move it around a bit, or possibly ending up with 9 cities. And look at the good news, we don't need aquaducts ;)

fog city goes right, oterhwisse we have an unused tile in the middle (except if there's lotsa whales.

otherwise I just wasted 15 mins on a dotmap, danz

What? No fresh water at all? This'll be a tough one. For the cities I suggest one on the hills S of the gold and one NW of the worker. I would use the worker to start roading beack to Ur. The border expansion will take the GH and there doesn't seem to be much left to explore down there.

I'm glad this one is only Monarch, otherwise any city bigger than 2 we'd have to start using our luxury slider, maybe there are some goodies over by fog city,

I think our next city shoult be SE of the gold like danz said or SE of the goodie hut.

I learned onething here: As long as any city has lots of commerce, you can live with 10-20% Lux and2MP for everything at size 6. Capital worked the Gold hill, thus size 7. But the Tobacco was incredibly helpful for that, any city without could only work one non-coast tile.

And, I think you still refuse to accept HOW insane this start is. If I wouldn't have generated with the seed-info myself, I wouldn't believe it is not a modded map
