hey, Civ fanatics!

I am a big fan of Civ game, but playing it without a few basic mods hurts my wrists. thousands of extra mouse clicks, lack of hotkeys for many frequent actions, etc.
I was happy to have discovered CQUI mod several years ago, but alas it seems to be in a broken state more often than not, lagging at least a year since latest Civ6 updates. I know there is a branch of CQUI code that you can install manually (not through Steam workshop), but that one has its own issues (I have tried several builds in the past and every time something was broken, so it may be better to wait until an "official" workshop release).
Concise UI seems to be a viable alternative to make user experience less painful.
I also see multiple other smaller mods like "Better Trade Screen", and others. At least some of them conflict with each other though, and it is not always obvious to see which one causes an issue.

so, here is my question for Civ fanatics -

can you please share a working combination of "quality of life" mods that would work fine for the current Civ 6 Gathering Storm? maybe we can keep a collection of responses in a pinned topic that can be updated every now and then - I expect this topic to be of interest to many (most?) Civ players.

by "quality of life" I mean pure UI-modification mods that improve user interface, no changes to game mechanics.

Everyone seems to have their own custom mix that they prefer.
Mine is (in rough order of importance to me):
  • Sukritact's Simple UI Adjustments
  • Extended Diplomacy Ribbon
  • More Lenses
  • Better Report Screen (UI)
  • Sukritact's Global Relations Panel
  • Real Great People (UI)
  • Tactical Camera by Tom Illar
Mostly my setup is about easier access to in game data that is available in the original UI, but in ways that are harder to find.

thank you for the info, I will try this combination if it works for you.
I would be very interested to know how you chose this setup over other mods (CQUI, concise, etc), if you have a minute to explain. thanks a lot!

I will come back with my list later (sadly I'll have to eliminate: WASD, Radial measuring tool, and Unique district Icons, from them... as one of them is blocking the yield key short cut - I'm yet to narrow down which). Bygones, CQUI adds a few things I'd rather not have. Let...me... come back to you with what they are too... :D

This post is really just a post to force me to look into doing a proper response *sheepish grin*

This is my collection of UI mods (in somewhat order of importance):
  • Better Report Screen
  • More Lenses
  • Real Great People
  • Better Trade Screen
  • Better Espionage Screen
  • Concise UI
  • Extended Diplomacy Ribbon
  • Better Tech Tree
  • Better Civilopedia
  • Unique District Icons
  • Real Era Tracker
  • Sukritact's Global Relations Panel
Note that all the mods apart from Concise work together with no problems. Because Concise UI is such a comprehensive mod, it changes some of the areas that the other mods do, so to avoid conflicts, you need to delete some of the folders inside Concise UI/modules (luckily they've made it modular). You need to figure out which folders to delete based on other mods you're using, but just as an example, in my case I've deleted the folders espionage_panel, great_people, leader_icons, trade_panel, unit_list.

The responses below kind of sum up why I prefer to hand pick just a few UI mods, and not take one of the larger overhaul mods.

CQUI adds a few things I'd rather not have.

I also used a few others previously, but found that various changes that Firaxis has made over the years makes them no longer necesary. Mods such as Produciton Queue, Map Tacks and the Notifcation Log (along with the related Simplified Gossip/Combat Reports mods).

In addition, I interact with the existing Espionage UI and Trade Routes UI so little, I haven't bothered finding a replacement. I know that others feel differently.

EDIT: Also, because when a patch comes out, many mods break - I have tried to keep my overall list managable so that if I HAD to play without one or more of them I could get by.

The only thing I have against this (I use it myself) is the OP did say they want fewer mouse clicks whereas PCR does add some.

But not as many clicks as having to reload the game if you forgot to change your policies while its free! ;)

My must haves:

Better Report Screen
Real Great People
Policy Change Reminder
Tactical Camera
Enhanced Mod Manager
Map Search Extension

I'd like to add the Improved Deal Screen, but it hasn't been updated in ages. Some guy has done a version of it that may cover the main things I want (i.e. being shown in the trade window what resources I'm getting from CS's so I know I can trade away the last of my own copy of luxury X) called Better Deal Window; but I'm yet to try it out.

And once I work out which of; WASD or Radial Measuring Tool is messing with the yield shortcut key, I can re-add the other to my must have list.

It's pretty intense, but here's what I'm using right now. I just spent way too many hours on this collection. I have about a dozen more I'm going to add before starting my next game, that I've been researching.

I've been lurking here as long as civfanatics has been around, playing since the first game. I think this is legit the first time I've posted anything :)

Welcome to the dark side!

Let us know which ones you end up adding! Thanks.

I configured this mods list, also added:

* Better Trade screen (to get routes sorting)

confirming - no issues with this mods combination (using latest versions on April 27, 2020).
some things that feel not ideal to me (after having used CQUI and Concise UI in the past when they still worked) -

* "production list" panel has separate tabs for /produce / buy with gold / buy with faith / . need to jump between these tabs all the time. pretty suboptimal.
* also, "production list" panel has pretty long lists starting mid-game. you may need to scroll waaaay down almost every time you open that panel. Concise UI mod used shorter list item boxes to mitigate this.

Yep, that's the main reason I use Concise UI, and used to use CQUI before that. Also, separate buttons for seeing the tiles your citizens are working, and for buying a tile. And another button to open the panel on the left. That's six different buttons in total, instead of accessing everything with a single click.

These are the UI mods I'm using at the moment:
  • Uniqe District Icons
  • Sukritact's Simple UI Adjustments
  • Suzerain At A Glance
  • Happiness and Growth Indicators (note: I'm the author of this one)
  • [UI] Research Stop Reminder
  • Repeat Future
  • Sukritact's Better Great Person Screen
  • Great Works Viewer
  • Sukritact's Global Relations Panel
  • Better Trade Screen
  • Better Espionage Screen
  • Better Report Screen (UI)
  • Even More Reports
  • More Lenses
  • Map Search Extension
  • Simplified Gossip
  • Quick Start (Linux, Mac, Windows)
  • Sukritact's Civ Selection Screen
  • Enhanced Mod Manager
All of them are compatible with Gathering Storm and also with each other out-of-the-box. I've also combined them in a steam collection.

Someone made a bundle of 3 mods called "CQUI light" that restores most of the core of CQUI. If you put those three mods on, you can also add most of the other mods listed here except for some of Sukritact's stuff. The most important one is the city interface/production screen

Better trade screen, better espionage screen, better report screen, more lenses, repeat future, quick start, Enhanced Mod Manager, Better diplomacy ribbon, policy change reminder, Sukritact's Better Great Great Person Screen, and Sukritact's Global Relations Panel all work together with no problems (or at least none that I've noticed). There might be some more mods that also work, but those are the ones I can confirm.

Here's a link to CQUI Light: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198007576750/myworkshopfiles/?appid=289070

All that being said, CQUI was updated about three weeks ago. I dunno if it's any good, but it can be downloaded here: https://github.com/Azurency/CQUI_Community-Edition/tree/expansion2

I'll test it out later tonight and see if it's any good. The integrations that were made 3 weeks ago mostly worked several months ago so hopefully they've been polished.
