Command and Conquer 3

Hmm...$100 Australian is $83 American...Ouch.

What's wrong with Generals? I have it and I like it OK. As I said before in another thread, I suck at games I was trying to play Generals with the Chinese, and I can't get past that one level, I think it's called Nuclear Winter. Anyway, because of that I mostly play skirmishes in Zero Hour. I have Decades and don't do too well on the others and the graphics suck on all of them except Generals anyway.

CC has it exactly right. Many long time fans think it was a marketing ploy to tack the CNC name on a game that had basically nothing to do with the story line.

I liked generals/zero hour. because it has so far been the most balanced C&C so far.

granted, it does everything unlike any C&C series.... build style is more closer to the blizzard RTS games than any westwood RTS, infantry is more cost effective than armored units (whereas historically it's been the other way around), micro-ing is actually a factor rather than pure macro styled play and etc.

dont claim that i said zero hour is a balanced game, but I will say this: out of all the c&cs... zero hour was the best in gameplay

I need honest to goodness opinions on this game and whether or not its really all that great, im sitting on the fence on whether I should get it or not because it will put an ugly dent in my wallet and if its not worth it then I wont bother, this is coming from a guy who loves starcraft, red alert two and supreme commander for a little RTS background.

Harbinger, I like CNC3. One thing to note is that it is nearly diametrically opposed to Supreme Commander. The pace is very fast with units being built in seconds rather than minutes, it has smallish factions (compared to Supreme Commander) where nearly every unit has a role in the combat chain, and game is usually done in 15 minutes or so.

Well as stated I like red alert two also, which IMO was also very fast paced like that, is the A.I good? And How diverse are the factions exactly?

Every unit has a purpose? I'm sorry to burst your bubble but CNC3 is horribly unbalanced. Unlike Generals infantry isnt worth crap and all you have to do is spam tanks to win or you will be defeated.

I think thats why I liked red alert two, most infantry in the game served some kind of major purpose throughout, except for the conscripts, who the hell uses conscripts..........

What were Nod thinking with the Beam Cannon? All I see in it is this: Obelisk charger or Avatar Food. Not a good combat tool... honestly, it's pathetic, only good when the enemy is not watching the basic base defences or you are not. It's a more annoyance than weapon

Well here's where the player have to choose between a dozen beam cannon or a few Avatars...

Honestly I think infantry are quite useful in some cases. The Nod terrorist and Shadow team are quite effective given the right situation, so is the zone troopers and the Scrin buzzer.

Beam Cannons are useful, they melt away enemy building like nothing. Use the cloaking field, radar jam missile and distract his main force with your own. Then send the cloaked BCs through a whole in his base and presto the enemy buildings are rubble.

>_>

Of course they are not much use against tanks, they are artillery. They are good against EMPed mammoths though.

The games end so fast, i think its useless to discuss the usage of avatar, mammoth tank nor beam cannons.

As for infantry, Shadow Team is by far the most imba unit in the game followed by light tanks. But every other infantry in the game is too cost inefficient and has too little of a function to do any good.

I tried garrisoning Scrin Buzzers in buildings. The buildings did nothing apparently, what's the point of the Buzzers in a building if it's just going to be targeted by tanks and not fight back? The only other Scrin unit that can use structures is the Mastermind, and that's quite useless in a structure
