Wow, I called thread necromancy when someone opened a dead thread on my mod-pack from three years ago. This takes the record.

CNC, but I have reason to be biased.

As for the question, despite the fact that I have no Warcraft games but one Command and Conquer game, I have to pick Warcraft for two reasons.

1. I've played StarCraft and it was great.
2. I don't really like Command and Conquer: Generals all that much. It's junk to me compared to AoEII and CivIV.

That is some mighty loose reasoning, Forkbeard. You liked a different game from Blizzard (that is considered by most to be the best RTS of all time) and disliked the weakest game in the CNC universe (some would even argue that contrary to the name it is not a real CNC game), so WarCraft, a game you never played, is the better.

If its the weakest than how come IGN gave it a 9.3/10 (which IMO I do not understand at all).

StarCraft was basically built from the foundations Blizzard established with Warcraft and Warcraft II. So it kinda counts (it might as well be Warcraft in space).

Now you've totally convinced me that you have no idea how Warcraft plays. Warcraft (both I and II) had two teams that were essentially the same unit for unit except for their graphics. Starcraft is the best implementation of asymmetric teams that are balanced even though they play radically different I've seen.

zi dont think youv ever played starcraft, warcraft was a one faction game with only aesthetical tweaks whereas starcraft.....o boy....so much to say

This thread is a zombie. It died 7 years ago and now its up walking around again.

I've only played Red Alert, Starcraft, and Warcraft III. Got hooked on all 3 for a period of time, but I'll have to give Warcraft the win on this one.

Starcraft will always have a special honor for reasons mentioned above. Each race has unique style and balance is retained.

C&C will always have a special place in my book as my first MP experience (good 'ole dialup modem games)

As far as generals, it was actually my favorite, though I only played skirmishes against the AI so I don't know how well balanced it is.

Which of these games do you recommend to me, since I've only played Age of Empires II?

Yeah, I'm just here to be part of history.

If you've never played Starcraft, West 36, you own it to yourself to try what is considered by most to be the most balanced RTS. The graphics are dated, but the game play is not.
