Community 2K Brave New World Livestream 06/27/13 Recap (Shoshone! Venice! Scenarios!)

Boy do I miss 2k Greg. Sorry Kate, don't wish any ill will on you, god bless you. You were essentially doing a bunch of random things with zero focus which was not compelling video. Glad 2k is doing live streams though....any chance you'll do that release evening?

Kate, just a tip to streamline your playing. You can use Right click to move and attack, you do not have to constantly move the mouse over to the unit orders menu. You are doing hundreds of extra clicks that are not needed :)

(Sorry but it was driving me crazy I could barely watch it haha)

I prefer to double-click. Years of launching apps & files makes it a natural response for me. :D

I haven't seen/heard the live chat yet but I really do hope there are more civs that were tweaked...

It's certainly not impossible, but I wouldn't be too optimistic about any significant changes to anyone else.

And as for Kate's playing skills - I was far too busy listening to the actual questions and responses to pay any attention whatsoever to the gameplay (that, and I have zero interest in the Civil War scenario, I'm afraid). Kate, I'm sure you did just fine - and it's always nice to see another female Civ player! :)

One change I did notice - forgive me if this has already been brought up, I haven't had much time to read the forums or this thread recently - is that Byzantium now has a coastal starting bias. It seems small, but the new advantages of the coast in BNW and the fact that they'll definitely have access to their Dromons make me think they'll be noticeably buffed. Plus, the tweaks to Piety should help them a bunch.

Some of the comments directed at Kate on this forum are stark reminders of why so many male gamers are, and remain, single.:rolleyes:

 ouch,

People need to remember that Kate is still new, and has been for what? a year? half a year? She'll get the hang of it, besides, i doubt she has THAT much free time to truly learn the game.

We gamers tend to talk a lot of trash with each other and it is easy to forget that the folks working for these companies are employees, and not our peers; they should be given some degree of respect and consideration, just as we would expect on the job.

Agreed. I mean, she's admittedly new to it, and trying to direct an interview at the same time. Compared to that disastrous Civil War scenario review on youtube by a few "male gamers" Link, and I'd say she did quite well.

I don't really understand this; they didn't have to change India at all, so if they're changing one thing about it and they're overhauling several other civs and they know (they must know...) the fans are really down on India's unique penalty ability, why not just go all out and actually give them a bonus so that they're actually worth playing? Currently the only reason to play India is if you're looking for a challenge.

If you go tall into wide, its a bonus.. but it forces you to go tall early. (although it is true that the early game is usually the more challenging part)

Speak for yourself, dude. I'm gay. As are almost all the Civ-ers I play with. :p

(Then again, I think Kate is awesome and did just fine for a new player in a scenario she was unfamiliar with. Hope she finds a Civ she likes in BNW!)

I think the reason for the change is so India can still be competitive in cultural victory. The change wasn't because people disliked India but to adjust to the new rules.

And it does work with India.
old India cultural victory: start tall, stay tall (happiness->mandate culture + golden ages)

new India cultural victory: start tall, go wide (late 12 pop ICS allows many Mughal Forts.. for lots of tourism)

At about 23:38 in Civilization V: Brave New World - American Civil War Demo 2 on youtube Dennis Shirk says something about a stand alone ??? and doesn't require steam ???

Does it mean the coming fall patch is the last one? As Steam would no longer be required?

He's talking about forthcoming separate Steam-free Pitboss executable.
