Gus took the spot I considered as my 2nd choice. You have two salts, a wheat, a sheep, and you are on river hill. What is not to love? The mountain and incense are gravy.

Even replaying with map knowledge I don’t see a better spot nearby -- and I hate giving up a coastal cap.

Spoiler why that was a good call :

Starting bay is ice locked. No exploring with Caravels anyway!

Plus, if you move more than a tile or two it seems to me that it baits those extra AI deity settlers. That is probably just superstition on my part. But it has happened twice, and it makes me crazy!
