Community GMR Game

Cool...I was wrestling with the idea of how to judge someone's character when I've never met them.

If all team CFC players would follow the steps above to join the group, please. Social forum discussion can continue for now, but when all players have access to the new forum, I'll paste it all over and shut down the social group. Thanks.

Kiffe, might be good to look at some old rule sets, instead of reinventing the wheel? I posted a link a page or two back, check it out.

Hi Onan.

Yes we will reuse the rules from previous ISDG for the general principles. We need to set some specific civs V rules to prevent in game exploit. I will have à look to previous ISDG rules and sum up them. I am a bit busy atm, but i will do it asap.

Cheers

Team CFC bans: ______ and ______.

Sorry I'd thought the discussion had ended so had posted them, and then within minutes there was some more...looks like we need a little more time.

I checked the other DG/ISDG forums for a good explanation thread (why? Because I'm lazy), and I think we could need an adjusted (to the needs of Civ5) copy of this thread in this forum here.
Any disagreements?
If not, then I'd make a preliminary copy of it with the basic adjustments, and would then make further changes based on suggestions here.

How about this:

Part 1: PBEM Fairplay
1. Diplomatics and map/screenshot exchange only after in-game contact with the respective players.
2. Renaming of cities and units to the confusion of the enemy is not fair, single renaming eg by conquest/foundation of a city is allowed.
3. Breach of contracts are part of the game, but be aware that in the future, the mistrust of the other players will grow over (in other PBEM).
4. The gift of directly threatened cities to another player who has a NAP with the enemy (or other existing agreements) is not allowed.
5. Reloading (e.g. to get a different result in battle) is not allowed. If you just "clicked together" (without having received in game-related information), then reloading is okay.
6. Reading in PBEM Stories of all players, even those that are already retired, is prohibited as long as you are still participating.

Part 2: in-game tricks
1. Mutual attacks between friends/allied players who only have the goal of generating promotions and great generals are not allowed.
2. Constructing a usable field improvement in the current round by restarting the workertask is allowed.

Map trading or any other rules should be discussed here.
Is using of CS exploits really that important? I think after the second war declaration there will be no more peace with that CS.

I think the discussion about the rules should get its own thread, maybe even multiple, depending on what is needed.
Maybe first one one for the ingame options, to see on what can be agreed, then a new one for everything on which no direct agreement could be found, and at last the discussion about meta-gaming.

Does anyone here have any DG/ISDG experience?
Some veterans might be good. Worf?

Our team has been considering how we'll distribute the save amongst ourselves. Only one person will play and submit the save, but we want to divide up the roles so we share the work, eg minister of information checking F9 stats and taking screenshots, etc.

We'll probably need a team account for GMR,nand this may have to be a player who doesn't already use GMR...and if that is tied to a Steam account, then whoever sets that up would have to share their Steam details with whoever next took over playing the turn--the turn player for each turn is likely to change at least a few times. Assuming sharing the GMR password works....

Just wondering if this merits further consideration of the other proposed method, the drop box...it's a German thing, isn't it?

Hey Onan, if you're considering using GMR as an option for moving the save files for the game then you are correct that you would need to create a Steam account for each team (the Steam accounts don't have to have a copy of CiV, so they'd be free and easy to create) then register them with GMR to get an Authentication Key. Then each person on that team could use that key in the GMR client and would be able to play turns for their team via it. The GMR client does remember multiple AuthKeys and makes it easy to switch between them.

However unless each team in the game were setup this way I'm not sure how valuable GMR would be. I admit this is the first time I've heard of an ISDG game so maybe I'm missing something?

Hey m4stermel.

GMR is valuable in the way it is a mail-to-mail independent application. Over the typical timespan of an ISDG (could last as long as 2 years) it is inevitable turnplayers switch, people drop out, and new people come in. GMR circumvents the need to keep changing the email addresses because it acts as a central repisotory.

That makes good sense! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you guys out :)

edit: That could include small tweaks or changes to GMR for an ISDG if it would help.

Ok now, to that discussion:
Once again!!!

I strongly recommend testing the BF Tool.
It is far better for our purposes than GMR.
Saves are distributed automatically to all players. The played save can be sent via e-mail.
No logging in, no Steam crap, ... no problems with replacement

It even works in english:

and in french:

Just check it out. It really works well and is (besides the pretty nice desktop app) better than GMR.

Thanks for the feedback and offer of custom support, Mel!

A couple questions for you, Ralfi:

How easy is it to use? (Yes, I haven't looked at it yet, sorry, bit busy. I will!) GMR takes a lot of the tedious steps out of a PBEM and does them for you.

More importantly, does the 'BF tool' come with a developer who can help when a save gets stuck, or corrupted, or otherwise lost? Mel regularly helps us out and salvages games/saves for us, which otherwise would have ended in a scrapped game.

How easy is it to use?

Pretty easy. Every team creates 1 free account. Then we check in into the game. There is an overview site for each game with the current position of the game. You put in the list of e-mail adresses you want to have your save provided to. You need to place the save file manually in the hotseat folder. (usually the download folder is remembered so there is no trouble) After having played the turn (just overwrite the save file) you can load it up right there or send it via e-mail to the tool. (no log on needed) All we need is an initial save created by someone neutral.

Yes one of the developers is registered to our forum. (no worries, he is not in the group) He recently helped me out with an upload issue. But so far i didn't notice any problems with corrupted saves. If there is a corrupted save, the problem usually comes from the creator. If that happens you can reject the save and the last player has to resend or replay.

Just check out the description. (it looks a bit complicated, but it's not) Sorry the translation is created by google. ;-)
