Community Patch Events Development

Civ Events were a mistake. They are a pain to update and regulate especially when hokath gave me all 43 civ updates in big changes rather than I do it periodically like say (The European civ updates and all that stuff although I should have done it). I'm on 28 out of 43 left? There's too much big changes to document, so I'll just leave it for people to find out the goodies themselves.
I don't really get why Civ events exists when E&D does. It's redundant at best.

Once upon a time E&D had horrible stability problems. Then Gazebo invented this events framework which solved that problem. I made the Civ events because I wanted that civ-specific flavor but couldn't deal with the E&D of the time. I magnamously shared this with everyone else. Nowadays E&D is in a different state and indeed they fulfill similar roles, although E&D is more sophisticated with resources and morality and so on iirc. Does that make sense?

Yeah, I haven't been around long, so I don't have the history. Still though, why not move the civ events over to that other framework?

He's saying that E&D wasn't in G's framework when they started the civ events. By this point the events between the two have been developed differently so moving it wouldn't fit E&D's theme.

Removing Civ Events from CPE makes sense to me.
  • If people want events that are civ-specific they use E&D
  • If people want events that are not civ-specific they use CBE
  • If people want both then they use both
Feel free to disagree with my premise; explaining the issue back to me twice does not a counterargument make. Saying it's because the mod specifically designed to do what these events do was not working at the time is a sunk cost fallacy. We all hate throwing out work, but sometimes it's the best thing.

There is a check box for civ specific events. Not to mention, original E&D had civ events (actually just one), as well as global events, so moving all civ events to E&D for VP just because they are civ events wouldn't make sense.

E&D for VP is a compatibility for the original E&D, while this mod is just about adding a whole new bunch of events. They are not the same (though E&D for VP depends on this mod, which I think should not be the case in the future).

When you say "framework", what I had in mind was original E&D's fully lua implementation for events vs CPDLL's database implementation (both E&D for VP and this mod uses CPDLL events),. This was what Hokath was referring to when he said framework, while you're actually talking about moving all events into the E&D mod. Ashendashin explained it again probably because he had a similar conclusion.

I'm just a bit bemused at the fact that two decision support mods are being developed by the same 1-2 guys, and have essentially feature creeped into each other.
Seems like the two should either be merged, or more clearly delineated from one another.

Here's my views. CP Civ Events and E&D decisions are two different things. Completely different things. These events pop up involuntarily because that's what events are. Decisions are when you can make those decisions whenever or not if you want to. Not to mention Civ Events are much more in depth compared to decisions. You can actually feel the impact of some of these Civ Even compared to decisions such as a unique church

As of tonight, I'll release a premature version of CP Events because I have too much paperwork to handle right now over the upcoming week.

So...how have things been? I hope you're not buried in paperwork and simply got distracted by the shining light of Dota after surmounting it.

I still find E&D to lock up EUI at times (I get the Make Decision and it EUI doesn't respond to the button click) I also don't like how E&D puts your entire civ into anarchy due to a comet.

A cheat I find with community events is the barbarian raiding your city and you have the choice of -2 happiness or 3 barbs show up around the city and you get a free unit. When I play a wide progress strategy I get these for every city, The barbs that spawn are so weak and I get the latest tech unit I have resources for. I use this cheat for my progress game, I never build units(except siege and naval) and just depend on this mechanism to build my army until I reach cap. The spawning of a strong unit and 3 weak barbs is way to advantages.

Well it hasn't been Dota that's the issue. Just relationship and academic in the way. I'm trying my best to set time for this mod however.

Looking forward to it. I've tried to play without events, but I always get so bored and frustrated as I wait for things to get moving, what with all the space and civs I play with.
Good luck with managing people, time, and academia!

@Enginseer Who's your main guy in Dota? My favorite is Clinkz, but I've been playing mostly abilty draft lately

I prefer Visage as he can play a durable support with an impact in teamfights even when he is focused down hard. A lot of support items complement his play style and enhance his team's performances in the current meta. Skywrath Mage might be my 2nd in terms of hard silences counter-picks.

Ok I think I am able to guarantee an early version by Tuesday. It'll consist of major changes from the A-G civilizations while all civilizations that had a religious building in their unique event will have something much more unique. ;)

Have I told you that I love you? Am I overbearing with my love for modders? Should I, a person who's never made a mod and doesn't have the greatest head for balance, have a go at those dynamic events I was advocating?

Mild feedback, assuming it's not already been fixed and it's not a base event (been playing with this mod so long I frankly forget):

The event that spawns in each city after you've completed a medieval Policy tree, giving you a 'choice' based on which one. "Refugees", I think. Having Statecraft should give you 3 citizens (on Marathon), but only ends up giving one. Not sure which way this should go, as getting +3 citizens on every city in any state of the game can be gamebreakingly stupid-powerful. Probably just getting 1 citizen might be enough.

Anyway, I shall make sure I have the latest from the next game on. Thank you for the effort :)
