Completely Dumb Ideas

Add a Cathar civilisation to the south of France with their own Christian denomination. They get less food from pastures (because they're not supposed to eat meat) and their religious victory requires world population to decrease for 50 consecutive turns (the material world was created by Satan, so bringing more people into it is bad).

Gnostic Religious Victory:
- Emanations: Have ten cities each with one type of Great People settled three times.
- Chaos Magick: Control three Hit Movies, three Hit Comic Books and three Hit Video Games.
- I'd Like To Speak To The Manager: Spawn or capture the Great Engineer "Gabriele Trovato" and the Great Artist "Leoreth".

From now on you shall address me as Demiurge

Add Civ - Tartar
Spawn in Siberia around 100AD with Digital era
UHV- Build 100 ICBM, Raze 100 cites by 1190AD
UP - Air Electricity - cites found with Power available. No power plants needed
UU - TN-ICBM, replace ICBM - then used on city - raze it completely

Always talking about religion? Common.
Suggesting a concept that would replace religion in late game? Common.
Reminding the ideology system in The Road To War as a viable example? Common.
But in spite of this being a common suggestion I'll make a parody of it, with the help of...

Sport. What a concept.

5 different sports can be founded in 19th century:

Basketball (core area USA+Canada, historical area Europe, Japan, China and Australia, contested area North Africa, Argentina and Brazil).

Baseball (core area USA, historical area Canada, Japan, South Korea and Cuba, contested area Central America, Venezuela, UK and Netherlands).

Cricket (core area UK, historical area India, Pakistan and Australia, contested area Bangladesh, New Zealand, West Indies (it is what it is) and Indonesia).

Football (=soccer) (core area UK, historical area Europe, South America, contested area North America, Central America, Africa, Japan, South Korea, Middle East).

Rugby (core area UK, historical Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Polynesia, France, contested area Argentina, Japan).

ATST a new kind of GP is created : Great Sportsmen. They can either found a sport, start a golden age or join a city as a trainer, which will give you culture and sport points.

New buildings are also created : stadiums, that give you more sport points. Wembley stadium wonder should also be overhauled.

What are sport points for? Well, each sport has a World Cup, in which every civilization that has a stadium of this sport can take part. They start as soon as three civs do. Winning a World Cup gives you money and a diplomacy bonus towards other civs with the same sport.

Only problem : with rugby and cricket we do definitively need an Australian civ and a South African one.

Why is this a dumb idea? While I think that we don't really need competing sports squabbling like religions (I think people do love multiple sports?), the idea of sport points and "Great Sportsmen" sounds intriguing.

Introducing "The Sports League".

The Sports League is only founded once five civs (who are not at war with any of the others) have at least one building that generates sport points (sp). Each stadium gives 1 sp, the national sports program (founded by a great general/scientist/sportsperson) gives 2 sp; Wembley gives 5 sp. (other buildings and wonders up to debate?)

All players with at least one stadium would participate in the League, and each four rounds there is a tournament that is won by sport points and luck. For each player, their sport points are added up, but everyone also gets awarded randomized free sport points in form of "order(1-n)", with n being the number of participants in the league.

Spoiler Example calculation of 1922 :

thirteen participants in the Sports League meaning that the order numbers run from 1 to 13.
China (2 stadiums, or 2s) = 2 sp + order 1 = 3
France (9s) = 9 sp + order 2 = 11
America (8s + national sports program (nsp) = 10 sp + order 3 = 13 (bronze)
England with 3s and Wembley = 8 sp + order 4 = 12 (6th place)
Spain (3s) = 3 sp + order 5 = 8
Russia (5s+nsp) = 7 sp + order 6 = 13 (4th place)
Germany (2s+nsp) = 4 sp + order 7 = 11
Brazil (3s) = 3 sp + order 8 = 11
Japan (np) = 2 sp + order 9 = 11
Argentina (1s) = 1sp + order 10 = 11
Italy (2s) = 2 sp + order 11 = 13 (5th place)
Turkey (1s + nsp) = 3 sp + order 12 = 15 (gold)
Mexico (1s) = 1 sp + order 13 = 14 (silver)
There is more or less 'world peace' (Korea with 1 stadium is at war with only Japan and thus completely excluded, because Japan generates more sp). In this example, all three of France, America and England were particularly unlucky in drawing their randomized order-number; while Italy, Turkey and Mexico got 'undeservedly' lucky.

Winning in the Sports League: The leading half of the civilizations in the tournament get to add their reached sport points towards a "great sportsperson" (GSP). They gain +2 happiness and +2 economy from stadiums. The top three also get medals: "You won Gold in our Sports League" (+4 diplomacy with all other participants), Silver (+3) and Bronze (+2).
Losers are still winners: The lower half who didn't reach the final rounds, still gain +1 happiness and +1 economy from stadiums. Also, just participating still gives a +1 diplomacy boost ("you are a friendly competitor in our Sports League"), so there is always a bonus to consider.

Whenever wars break out, the Sport League gets divided: The "First Sports League" matches all civs not at war with any other, with preference given to the civ that has more sport points. The "Second Sports League" will do the same with all remaining civs not at war with any others among their group, etc. However, the economy bonus for the second league is lowered by -1 per stadium.

Spoiler Example calculation of 1942 :

The First Sports League includes 10 participants (now including Korea because Japan is also at war with America now; and Canada built a first stadium):
Argentina (3s) = 3 sp + order 1 = 4
Mexico (3s) = 3sp + order 2 = 5
Korea (1s) = 3 sp + order 3 = 6
Russia (6s+np) = 8 sp + order 4 = 12 (bronze)
Canada (1s) = 1 sp + order 5 = 6
Brazil (4s) = 4 sp + order 6 = 10
America (9s+np) = 11 sp + order 7 = 18 (gold)
China (4s) = 4 sp + order 8 = 12 (4th place)
Spain (3s) = 3 sp + order 9 = 11 (5th place)
England (3s+np) = 5 sp + order 10 = 15 (silver)
The Second League includes all civs who were excluded from the First Sports League because of being at war. Germany and Italy declared war against Russia and England; Turkey and France became vassals to Germany. If Japan had not declared war against America, it would play in First League and Korea would play in Second League, but they flipped because of Pearl Harbor. However, if Japan was vassalized by America and had to make peace with the entire world, then it would play together with Korea in the First League again, and the Second League would disband fully because of not enough participants.
France (4s+np) = 6 sp + order 1 = 7 (bronze)
Japan (2s+np) = 4 sp + order 2 = 6
Germany (6s+np) = 8 sp + order 3 = 11 (gold)
Turkey (2s) = 2 sp + order 4 = 6
Italy (3s) = 3 sp + order 5 = 8 (silver)

The National Doping Program would also give additional sport points, but it is risky: -5 health locally, negative espionage points per league participant (your agents are busy doping not spying) and whenever an enemy spy destroys a national doping program, the owner of that program is banned from the next two tournaments and suffers a -1 diplomacy penalty for that. If you are caught doping several times, the diplomacy penalty during the tournament ban stacks up by -1 each time.

Also some probability for a random "controversial arbitration" event which makes the winner suffer a -1 diplomacy penalty for 20 turns towards every other civ taking part in.

A Vandal civilization with a UP "Vandalize" replacing the "Sack" ability and giving more gold. One of the UHVs should be "Vandalize Rome three times".

The Vandal Kingdom is actually a cool idea. Maybe as a Carthage respawn? Wouldn’t really work on normal speed though.

Why does everything have to be a respawn of something

Ability can be used on tiles as well.
Cottages get toilet-papered.
Cows get tipped.
Forts graffitied.
Farms get shredded by jacked-up super-loud stoopid diesel pickup trucks covered in Neanderthalic stickers (I live in South Jersey. Halp).
Etc. 🤪

Yeah, it’s force of habit. Plus I missed a big chunk of DoC development when I was in college so I didn’t get the memo on slots for a while.
