Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

Got a problem, pick up a Trojan,

downloaded malwarebites and scan and removed Trojan using a different account on the computer.

Now when I start up on the formerly infected account it still will not run IE or Firefox or my wireless modem program, maybe all .exe files but those are the three I tried. It runs fine on my wife's account but will not run on mine.

any advise?

Did you try making a new account? If it works I would copy everything over

No but I was thinking about doing that, deleting my account and making a new one, Is the data in the user-file just passwords for steam, window backgrounds and junk like that, or would I be screwing my self if I deleted the account?

I'd backup the entire profile before trying it.

It's possible that your hosts file is corrupted/changed, that would do it. But it's more likely that it changed your settings to a proxy, and MWB didn't undo that option but managed to remove the proxy setting. Check for proxies and see if those options are checked.

Is it recommended that I wait for the summer/back-to-school sales to do my computer shopping?

Not computer related, but could it be that I have stumbled upon the longest thread I've seen so far on this forum or have there been longer?

Can you damage speakers by putting them on very very very loud? I killed a cheap pair a few years back and I was wondering if it was that or because they were cheap.

Not to mention the OT threads that are restarted with a link to the old after every 1000 posts. Their effective length is huge for some of them. For instance, the Babe thread is it's XXII partition.

Or the music thread, which is on its 200th run by now

How thick is a single slot Radeon 5770?

When I play music, my speakers sound like hard drive grinding. When I turn off the music it goes away. If I change the volume of the music via the system, the grinding noise stays the same. If I change the volume of the speaker, it gets quieter but then I can't hear my music. It's rather annoying. Any suggestions? Could the speakers have gone bad? Or maybe the plug to the computer? I can't find any spare ones to test.

I don't have money for new speakers. I want to try free or cheap ideas first.

Freecycle then.

And logitech makes a decent pair of speakers that you can buy for about $12 at walmart. They're fairly decent (bought two pairs myself) and inexpensive.

They must not have that kind around here. The cheapest Ive seen are $20.

Could it possibly be interference from the power? I remember speakers making noises before when turning on and off things.

In inches

The 5770 is a double-slot sized card. So 4cm. I'm somewhat confused why you're asking though, since a card's thickness is an industry standard-type thing. There's no need to measure it, either you have a free slot below your PCIe slot, or you can't fit it.

A more pressing question is the card's length / depth.

I'm trying to figure out the size in comparison to all in ones
