Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

You changed all instances of Aug to August, including the Aug that were already a part of August.

To do what you wanted you need to limit the replacement to only Aug as a word, not as a string.

How would I change the string to a word? With a regex?

Does Windows even USE regex?

The ISP messed up the DNS. Now when I put in a nonexistant web address it redirects to its search. I have a firefox addon that checks for dead links and this thing confuses it. How do I fix it other than changing the DNS completely to 8.8.8.8?

EDIT: I looked that up. A lot of people use OpenDNS. Is this a good idea?

The Google one is 8.8.8.8. Thats my alternative one. :)

The ISP is using your mistyped url's to get ad revenue. Just use the google one for your primary.

RE: Augustust problem.

Set up a temp directory and move *aug*.* temp
Do the rename
Move the temp files back.

EDIT: Alternatively:

rename *augustust*.* *august*.* should work too..

the school emailed me a pub file. I dont have microsoft publisher. How can I see inside it.

The site says to install a trial but Id rather not

Okay. I use Bell Sympatico and I've been told they have a crappy DNS so I've been using OpenDNS for a few years and haven't had any issues.

In Windows Vista, is there any way to get rid of that annoying "Windows Security Alerts" red shield with the 'X' on it that's in the tray constantly because I have UAC disabled? I know re-enabling the UAC would do it, but I want to keep that disabled.

Question: Is there a quick way to hide all Firefox toolbars without disabling them all manually? Fullscreen hides the status bar which I need. A keyboard shortcut or something. Thanks.

Ive got a long WAV file. Id like to split it up into tracks and export them as FLAC. I know how to do that with Audacity. However is there a better way to do it than Highlight > Export > Repeat? Somehow adding a marker?

I dont think Im really clear here. I cant think of the proper words at this time of night.

I did figure that out today. Once I figured out the right words to google. So you can ignore the question. I did have to install the new beta of Audacity to get the FLAC to work right tho. (Normally I dont like betas too much)

Is there a free way to crop a PDF? Not split up the pages but to crop out margins. Id rather not install an Acrobat trial but other than that I cant really find anything.

Because I have this PDF that's GIANT and I only need one part of it.
