Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

Can a double-male USB cable (I dont know the proper term) transfer data from one computer to another? I just found one.

If not, whats it for?

In the networking class they were talking about crossover cables but I didnt know a double-male USB was one.

Would it be faster than transfering it to an external hard drive and sneakernetting it? I don't know about USB limits or what.

I could be getting my terminology mixed up.

I think it would be slower, USB isn't very fast...

Well the external was also USB. What I mean is does the fact that you have two USB ports to deal with matter? Both of them are 2.0.

One for data, one for power. The external drive needs more than one port. I think they actually split the bandwidth, half the data on each and half the power.

Well, the external hard drive actually plugs into the adapter.

The cablle Im talking about actually has a large USB thing on each end. Not a mini-one as seen for drives

I swear I asked this before but I cant find it.

If you have a partition, is it arranged on the disk like:
AAAAABBBBB
or like this?
AABABAABBB

You could, but I suggest FW, even FW400 is way better

I tried to open mp4 in VirtualDub with this video, but it didn't work. (with mkv it worked)

If you can help me then please :)

I don't know what's wrong or how to fix it but if you want to play the file try vlc media player. It works almost always.

No it's not that. I know how to play every kind of videos.

I just need to know how to play mp4 in VirtualDub. :) because im editing those videos

Try converting it to an .AVI

Yeah i know, but then i need program that is free and can convert videos to avi like that quality is same than before like in avidemux (and convert must be very fast like in avidemux)

can't convert mp4 to avi in avidemux, because videos are going crazy speed and something weird stuff.

I think Handbrake can do that, it converts tons of stuff.

Not sure on speed though, it's the only app I've used for such purposes...

Handbrake is one of the faster converters out there and since its multi-threaded, the more cores you have, the better.

I saved a bunch of pictures JPEG and PNG. Only half the thumbnails are generating. I figured if I deleted thumbs.db it might work but there is no thumbs.db. What can do?

EDIT: I did turn on the hidden/system files

Well I don't know if your computer is the same as mine, but go to My Computer --> then right click on the C:\ drive and click 'properties' --> and there'll be a button in that window saying "disk clean-up", click on that, wait a couple moments while it calculates things --> then "thumbnails" should be one of the options you can check-off to have deleted.
