Question: OK i figured out a partition is AAA BBB.... So is it better to put the OS files on the first or second partition.

Well, anything on the outer tracks of the drive will have a higher read/write speed, but if you have your whole drive filled, then it wont matter. The access time will essentially be the same.

The hard drive doesnt care whats written to it, so in that case it wouldnt matter. Now if you short stroked the hard drive to 20% of its max capacity, and ensured that the partition is on the outer edge of the platters, then yes, you would see a benefit in speed and access time. It will be at near maximum for the hard drive much more often, and you might see as little as half the normal access time.

My wireless router abruptly stopped broadcasting Wi-Fi this afternoon. I can now only get online when I am physically plugged into the router. Power cycling hasn't fixed anything. What would suddenly cause this?

Possible the antenna burned out, or maybe some settings changed and you just didnt notice them. Try a full reset (make sure to write down all the info first though.) You will need to look up how to reset your router to factory defaults, but for most it involves simply holding the reset button for up to a minute.

It came back on it's own just now, about 4 hours after it abruptly quit. I did however change the channel it's broadcasting on, but that was like half an hour before it suddenly came back.

Has anybody used RealVNC? Is there a better (free!) alternative? It'd be cool to access my home computer from the laptop... especially when my back is killing me and I cant get out of bed.

Don't use tap water. It has minerals which will leave a film on the LCD making it look even worse. If you're gonna use water, make sure it is filtered, de-ionized water.

Windows should have a built-in VNC client, and even if it doesnt its not hard to find one. But yeah, that's what its called, VNC.

Well theres Windows Remote Connection (or Desktop or something) but only the business/professional versions of Vista/7 have it. My home computer is Vista Home Premium and the laptop is the home version of 7.

EDIT: So I tried RealVNC but I cant figure out how to make it work. Erg.

I'm looking to get a slightly overpowered netbook I could use mostly for web, but still do basic gaming on (civ 3 and some older 3D games perhaps). I've been comparing the atom processors with AMD's Neo processors based on Passmark benchmarks it looks like the Neo K625 really blows away the basic Atom's and even the dual core N550 is only about 2/3s as powerful. I was hoping someone had experiance with one or both of them on civ3?
Mostly I've been comparing HP's stuff, and I have it down to 3 choices...
A mini 210 series with 10.1" screen Atom N550, 2G of RAM and Win7 32bit. for about $480.
A dm1z series with 11.6" screen Neo K625, 3G of RAM and win7 64 bit. for about $520
And the g42t series with a 14" screen Intel i3-370m, 3G of RAM and win7 64 bit and an optical drive. for about $520.
Right now it seems like the Mini210 is a little too small for what I want, and the dm1z seems perfect except the g42t is a lot more powerful for the same price though I don't think I want something so big...
Any suggestions or better places to shop? I've checked TigerDirect and Newegg pretty thoroughly already...

Also does anybody know if civ3complete off of Steam will run okay on Win7 64 bit?
