Condensed tips for beginners?

Is it worthwhile putting March on my General with the medic3 upgrade?? Does it heal other units while moving or only my General??
Only your General/Warlord unit. I find that Morale is a better choice. The +1 :move: comes in handy sometimes.

thanks for the information, in the last game I played I found myself wanting that +1 movement.... often when destroying a town and wanting to return to the stack.

Hope this hasn't been mentioned yet... if you and another civ happen to be at war with a third party and the other civ takes one of the third party's cities, raze everything around that city quickly before social unrest wears off and the city's borders expand. More money for you + useless city to the other civ = win win situation. :)

Having trouble understanding that concept ??

I understand razing = gold, but ... what makes this tactic so special ??? Seems to me just standard warmongering.

Got another question though. Is there a way to see the base value of a tile ?? I'm still having troubles working out what improvement is best for my city, also when and if I should replace improvements. eg: farm > watermill, mine > windmill

A (hopefully) easy question about corporations: I had a great scientist, several coal and aluminum resources, had researched corps and advanced flight, Aluminum Co. had not been formed, and yet I could not found that corporation. I moved my scientist around to different cities with coal and/or aluminum in their city BFC's but at no point was the icon for Aluminum Co. lit up for me. Asoka and someone else had founded other corps, so they were available. Just got BTS and have not founded a corp yet, so maybe I'm missing something fundamental about this. Could not find anything helpful in the Civilopedia or in the BTS manual. Any ideas?

@ JackRules

There are also set technologies that will allow you to establish the individual corps.
Aluminum Corp can be established when you have Rocketry, Corporation and a Great Scientist.

@JackRules: You also can't found corporations while you're running State Property. There's also a bug in the 3.13 patch that stops you founding corporations under the Mercantilism civic (Bhruic's patch fixes this).

Quick question about Wall Street and Holy Cities.

Generally I try to get the Oracle out as fast as I can, and as a result it leads to a production city being one of my first cities.

Now as a result of getting CoL, I get my first religion Confucianism which almost always ends up in my production city... anyway, I think i'm finally understanding the difference between commerce(:commerce:) and gold(:gold:)

So this leads me to my question, Wallstreet only increases gold (:gold:) right?? It has no bonus effect to commerce(:commerce:) generated by cottage spam?

If thats the case, there is no reason against having a holy city with wallstreet in a production city???

Yes, that is correct.

That's true if you are getting the majority of your :gold: from the Shrine. On the other hand, if you are running, say, 50% research (and therefore 50% gold), then the :commerce: other cities has is being converted into :gold:. So another city might end up producing more :gold: because of the conversion than you are getting from the Shrine.

The other reason is that you can only have 2 National Wonders per city, and usually there are better ones for production cities. Otherwise, however, no, there's no reason not to do it, if it makes sense for the situation.

Yep understood, thanks for the reply.

It really took me by suprise the first time I specced a commerce city. Thought it would end up giving me lots of gold, but it provided none, though did give a lot of commerce.

Enjoyed reading, especially the walk throughs and challenges.

My question is this:

This sticky has a start date of Nov 2005, but the earliest other thread in this sub-forum is Oct 2007 . . . what happened to the last two years of threads?

Thanks,

Reif

nbcman and MrCynical,

Thanks for the info. I was in State Property. I had read about no corps in state property from one of the ALC games, but had forgotten. Guess that's why I still strugle at Prince.

Somthing both annoying and suprising happened to me today, I kept getting the combat victory trumpet sound and messages appearing in my log. At first I thought this was something caused by a mod that I just updated.

Upon closer inspection, to my suprise it was my Knights performing 'flanking' attacks on the enemies stack and destroying their catapults !! :) Knights have become my new best friends!!

So my question is regarding flanking. Are these attacks performed in between turns, if your knights are in an adjacent tile to an enemy siege weapon?? Will these happen from within city walls? If so, I'll have to add knights into my city defense stacks!

When a horse based unit or a chopper attacks a stack and survive (either by winning the fight or by withdrawal), it performs a flank attack on that stack. It means that it will damage a certain number of siege units, to the point of destroying them, not link collateral damages.
HA and knights perform flank attacks against cats and trebs. Cuirassier and cavalry against cannon. And choppers against artillery and mobile artillery.

NB: you can find all this in the BTS concepts section of the civilopedia.

Not a Bean  Thanks again, learnt something new and not civ related ;)
Latin is pronounced like modern-day Italian--thus, "nota bene" is pronounced roughly as "noh-tah beh-neh" (excuse the horrible phonetics).

I hope you didn't know that already, forgive me if you did! I love Latin myself.

Is it possible to make the English start in London, the French in Paris, etc. on a Europe map?

How can I accomplish this?

I understand how to make rally points for new units built in cities, but is it possible to rally existing war units to a tile later in the game to make an army to fight the enemy. It would be good to call up all units of the same type from a particular city or from all cities to one tile, then units of a different type to another tile etc etc ?
