I recently upgraded to the latest version of Computer Associate's "Internet Security Suite". Previously I had their old version "EZ Armor". Well, with the new version Civ4 runs about 90 times slower. When I disable the anti-virus software it speeds back up to normal.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to fix it without disabling the anti-virus software completely?

I am not familiar with this particular AV suite but wondered if there was a setting somewhere to specify certain files or folders to exclude from the scanner. It will probably be in the advanced settings somewhere so have a poke around and see what you can find. Of the two or three AV programs I have used over the years I think there has always been an option to exclude specific files and folders from the unwelcome attentions of the memory resident scanner. Put the civ .exe file on the list and see if matters improve.

I think that playing civ with your AV turned off is acceptable. Unless you're surfing porn sites in a different window. Alternatively, you might wish to install a less demanding virus scan (even though I read a review saying that it's not too demanding: http://www.newsfactor.com/news/Revi...rity-Suite/story.xhtml?story_id=0110018XVXIB). Alternatively, search for some options that would disable scanning in the background / only scan files on hard disk when computer is idle or when scheduled. And add entire civ4 folder among files/directories that don't need to be scanned.
