Congratulations to CFC for getting us FREE DLC! (the mongols)

where do I download it?

Do I get it thru Steam?

Why not something like "The Great Horde"? *shrug* But yeah, "Mongol Terror" is hardly that great a UA title. Pft. It has no oomph.

1. Neither $5 or $10 is enough to even bat an eye over. You spend that at McDonalds on something gone in 15 minutes. If you enjoy the game, you will pay the cash and not whine.
2. Those of you who bought from Direct2Drive. You probably did it because of your dislike (mostly unwarranted) of Steam. Well now you're not as special.
3. Mongols probably weren't ready, If they would have delayed game release for Mongols people would have whined more. So instead they delay Mongols and send them to war when they are ready. Makes perfect sense.
4. October 25th is not over yet, and the content is not yet available.

I had to register just to say something about all of you whiners.
Also my idea for the Mongol's would have been Punishment of God.
“I am the punishment of God...If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.”
Genghis Khan

You realize that with only 10 DLC's, and probably it will be a lot more based on how early this one came, we could have bought Civilization V again (it costs $50, right?). On the other hand, pricing DLC's fairly would make them cost less than $0.01...

Interesting. Very well, a response is in order.

1) $5- $10 for a single DLC of 1 civ is outrageous, and I personally would go WTH. As for McD's, if I must absolutely go there ( because my youngest still likes there food for some strange reason) 1 chees burger, 1 small fry, and 1 small coke = $3 ( dollar menu :) ). Guess what? he's fed, I didn't pay 5-10 bucks, and no body whined.

2) Some people have warrented issues ( and I noticed you stated mostly, how prosaic of you) with steam, and being self-proclaimed special seems rather arbitrary.

3) Seems a rather inflammatory statement without any actual data, and the timing of the release is suspect. So no, it doesn't make perfect sense.

If the only reason you registered was to make antagonistic remarks about your own self-percieved view of "whiners", then it shall definitely be interesting to see how long it will be untill we see copius amounts of red text under your posts.

Welcome to CFC sir, and have a pleasent day.
Drak.

There is an old saying, which featured as a quote in civ4 no less, that goes:
Everything is worth what it's purchaser will pay for it.

Why do you think the price of a video game (or just about any entertainment good for that matter) decreases over time? (excluding when it's rare and actually starts increasing in value :crazyeye:)

Is that fair on the people who paid for it at release? What is fair?
Perhaps 'fair' is letting the owner of the property sell it for whatever the heck they please. 'Fair' is then letting the potential customer decide for themselves whether they want to make the purchase. It all sounds pretty fair.

The point is, I can guarantee there would be a lot of lost revenue if they priced a civ at $0.01, simply because a large proportion of people are prepared to pay more. 2K and Firaxis are not charities, you know. ;)

3$? Good for you. But guess what? Those prices are not universal. For example for me to eat in a similar fast food place (not a fan of fries) would cost a minimum of 6e ( Euro menu :)). And nobody whined... So the point was? ... :dunno:

Anyway if one values a fast food meal more than 1 civ, that's their choice and a fine one (I certainly don't have a problem with that). I for one hate DLC, but would I skip 1 meal for additional content for a game I like? Yes.

Amen.

On that topic:
It feels like fellow Civfanatics here are greater than time itself... or live outside of time for that matter. If you want to wait 1-2 years to play a game that's fine, but please don't say it's the most reasonable thing to do.

In 2 years I imagine myself playing more advanced games like for example (emphasize on "for example") CoD part: whatever, Modern warfare 4.5 black ops 2 yadda yadda boom and hopefully at least waiting for soon to be released next iteration of Elder Scrolls while still playing Civ5 from time to time as it was before with Civ4. And I promise I won't be heartbroken and feeling ripoff-ed when you buy for 19.90$ a game that I'm probably already tired of. And yes even while I was buying DLS every 2-3 months or so these 2 years.

I love Steam, but I bought from D2D because I felt that I got the most content for my money.

I'd feel better about the DLC if they actually released it before X-Mas

Something that I don't think has been discussed:

Anyone know if they'll put out new Steam achievements for the Mongols?

It really depends on the developers, and I hope they at least add "Win a game on any difficulty as Khan". Other titles have added achievements with DLC and/or updates. Left 4 Dead comes to mind but that's a Valve game and they're more in tune with Steam than 2K is.

My Steam client just finished downloading the free DLC (Mongols) and the Steam Store is offering the Babylonian DLC for $4.99 at this time.

So to answer the questioning, yes, the free DLC is autmatically downloaded from Steam just as is a patch. It was 4,578 MB according to my Steam downloads page.

Lol, isn't a difference of opinion a wonderfull thing? :mischief: I understand that prices are not universal, and that they differ from varying regions. My point was that you do not have to be labeled a "whiner" if you have the opinion of disagreeing paying $5- $10for a single DLC. I should have made myself more clear. Apologies.

Did not read the thread, but Babylon's €3.49! Great! Finally a company that takes into account currency exchange rates, instead of just replacing the dollar sign with a euro sign.

Edit: Sorry, wrong thread.
