Congratulations to CFC for getting us FREE DLC! (the mongols)

You can also see Scenario Discription, Victory Conditions and Special Rules ;)

Ha ha! That's true. My bad.

Well, I think a unique general unit is pretty cool anyway. Hopefully they'll keep that.

I like the scenario rules though. I think it says cultural city states will give you a free social policy, militaristic city states will grant you all their troops and maritime city states will give you a lot of gold.
Best of all, or if you conquer a major civilization you get a free technology. I wish they would keep that. :P

Wow! A free DLC-Civ ist really awesome. That's good news, even if I don't need another civ, as I still have enough civs to try. However, I like this gift.

Regarding Babylon:
$4,99 for a civ? No way for me to pay a sum like that just for a civ...

I know, it sounds kinda weird. On one hand I really appreciate a free civ, on the other hand I claim $4,99 for "just a civ" to be too expensive... I think it's just a priciple, paired with the fact that we already have enough civs to play.

How does this rule out the Khan being the UU? O_o

What a load of crap, you got to be a real sucker to pay 5 bucks for one Civ. This is 2K tactic of testing the water to see what they can get the idiots to buy as DL content. I'm just plain upset with 2K/Firaxis and will never buy a product from them again.

They did not have the time to implement a properly working diplomacy system and fix the major bugs, but they had the time do work on DLC?

Money rules the world...

Time to work on DLC? The artwork plus about 10 minutes entering the race bonuses. I guess if it sells we can expect many more civilizations to roll out the door.

holy crap, I'm gone for a day and I'm out of the loop. this thread is already tl;dr, but I'll reply anyway and hope I'm not repeating stuff.

So-- first off you (probably don't) remember me as the guy who repeatedly said he wouldn't buy V until finding out if he'd be able to buy Babylon as DLC at some point, since he didn't want to pay 10 dollars for it, but also didn't want to pass and find out he'd never be able to get the pro quality Babylon ever if it wasn't going to be DLC.

I thought I'd have to wait for two xpacs to come and go before finding out for sure. Now I know. The game isn't even a month old and I can buy it!!!!!..... ? .......... oh. Except I haven't exactly been hearing good things and now I'm still not sure if I should >.> When the excrement hit the fan I was honestly pretty happy that the DLC issue prevented me from buying the game immediately, giving me the opportunity to wait out the storm. I'm currently uncertain about whether I should buy it now or wait for it to be patched up and maybe go on sale first. I'm still not in a hurry-- busy with life and enjoying other games in the meantime.

On to the DLC. Mongolia is free. Thanks, that's nice. Babylon is 5 dollars. ok..... to those of you who consider that cheap, here's the math on that:

Civs I'd like if they became DLC:

Spain
Mongolia
Babylon
Celts
Zulu
Carthage
Portugal
Vikings
Inca
Maya

Not sure what your lists look like, but I'm sure there's a pretty decent number of civs you'd like. Maybe not need, but would like. And if you buy every civ you'd like, you see how that gets ridiculous very fast.

Mongolia is free. Spiffy. If the rest are as much as Babylon-- and why wouldn't they be?-- I'm looking at 45 dollars for my list. After paying 50 dollars for the entire game, you're telling me I'd need to pay almost that same amount for just 9 new civs? I..... see. That's not exactly very much bang for my buck, is it? That's actually a pretty colossal rip-off. I honestly did not expect this. I thought it would actually be a reasonable price. Even $3 would be pushing it, I though. $5? Just wow.

Well... I'll buy the game someday. Maybe when it's patched up, maybe when it's on sale. But I'll buy it. I'm just so disappointed the way this has turned out, though. First I thought I'd buy it the second it came out. then the DLC issue hit. then I thought I'd buy it the second I had my answer about Babylon. Instead I'm waiting to see if the patches fix some glaring problems. It's like they're doing every possible thing to make me want to postpone buying the game.

As for the DLC, I'm not touching it. I'll wait and see if they make an xpac or two after all. I'd hate to spend that ridiculous amount of money and buy them all over again when a game-expanding xpac comes out and has those civs in it.

If a year goes by and no plans for an xpac are announced, I may buy some of the absolute top-tier wants of mine. Spain, Vikings, Zulu, and Babylon. Only when they go on sale, though. But I'll take the free Mongolia right away.

Five bucks for something that should have been included in this broken mess of a game to begin with.......The first cash grab was Sept 21.....here comes the next. Isnt the future of pc gaming wonderful?
I wont be buying this or any other mumbo jumbo they try and feed us down the pipeline until they fix a lot of the core changes this game needs.
Vote with your wallet...........

You can see in the screen shot that Khan is one of the UUs. Little hard to read though. :p

I give it a try:

Victory conditions

Victory is yours if you can conquer 4 or more major civilizations before 100 turns are elapsed.
(On difficulty levels higher than Prince, you will need to conquer more than 4.)
Tarry longer than the utilized(?) time and your compatriots will grow impatient
causing(?) your once mighty empire to dissolve into squabbling fiefdoms.

I am pleased to see the addition of the Mongols. :)

Babylon as DLC for $7 USD (€5) is too much for a single civilization. I consider the threshold of buying a single civilization for ~€2 ($3).

DLC has nothing to do with bugs or patching.

Horse units being perhaps overpowered is for balance changes in patches, not removing special unit/abilities that pertains to horses. Horse units in general would be tweaked down, with some being better than others. Just like city states or just maritime city states are not removed because one is unbalanced.

The idea that the designers wants people to be at war always using only horsemen... Why? Seems extreeeeeeeeeeemely improbable.

If you don't like DLC that costs money, don't buy it. It is not a tax or requirement.

Don't like that there is DLC that cost money because if they had tried maybe somehow it could have been included in the original release for free. Why should they give away the product of their work to you for free? You saw the list of included leaders and civs for Civ5 when you bought it and got them delivered.

Don't like that there is DLC that is free because they might be trying to apologize for technical problems & balance issues & other stuff with the game. Prefer that it cost money instead then? Or just that they trash the DLC leaving it unreleased?

Mobbing.

and:

Special rules

The spoils you receive from combat will be numerous and varied, all providing needed bonuses(?) and resources to continue pushing forward.
For example, the troops of militaristic city states will join your forces. A cultural city state will provide a free social policy.
And a maritime city state will provide extra gold for your treasury. Best of all, for conquering a major civilization you will receive
a free technology and even greater riches!

Good work eagle eyes! ;)

Awesome news I'll just grab them both :D

my ancestors go back all the way in Mesopotamia to the times of that guy and even b4 hell i even speak a very ancient language from around about that date might be able to fully understand him  also i understand some of the Persian leader words i don't know how or why, i guess it's the same reason.

i only have one Q, if i purchase the DLC from steam what happens if i format my laptop cos i do that a lot :) do i have to pay again for it, or it's in my account and there is no need to do that ? sorry i'm new on steam

this made my day :goodjob:

i saw the whole pricing thing, the DLC is 4.99$ if that's American dollars and i have to pay the equivalent in Australian dollars which is roughly the same
considering that I'm getting two civics and only paying 5 i see that a bit reasonable

but if all the future DLC are like 5$ for a single Civ and no free stuff along the way I'm not paying for anything else
come on Firaxis even if its 50 cent's each you will have thousands of potential customers (like the apps in Itunes store, or we will be forced to jailbreak steam to get them for free
biggrin.gif
)

that way making good profit could be achieved while everyone is happy

According to a screenshot on joystick.com the Mongols ability is: "Mongol Terror", which means: "Combat strength +30% when fighting City-State units or attacking a City-State itself. All mounted units receive +1 movement points"

<gosh>, +1 movement means this civ is even more overpower then horsemen currently. Anyway, free stuff is always good is it.

Moderator Action: Watch the language, please.

The free civ is great news, I was really missing the mongols

On the other hand 5 € for just one civ is over priced and I will not buy it.

Just one other thing I wanted to write: it seems like they've stopped caring about UA names for DLC civs. Think about it:

The vanilla civs had cool UA names like Furor Teutonicus, Sun Never Sets, Art of War, etc.

Babylon had the extremely generic and uncreative UA name of 'Ingenuity'. Sure, it fit the ability, but surely someone over there could've come up with a better name.

Now the Mongols are coming out, and 'Mongol Terror' is the best they can come up with? I suppose it fits the ability (or at least half of it), but it doesn't capture the imagination like the vanilla UAs did, not even close.

It's nitpicking, and a very minor thing, but still.

So uh... anybody else think the Mongols will be massively overpowered? Horseman are already overpowered, and the mongols get +1 movement, and a UU horseman with probably some other useful bonus. If they can ignore terrain movement costs like in Civ 4, they'll be the fastest things in the entire game. And for the AI, their bonus against city-states will be extremely good too.

Maybe its a mini apology, like what Stardock did for the Elemental disaster but smaller scaled (Stardock vowed to give everyoen who bought the game early the whole friggin first expansion free)
