Congratulations to CFC for getting us FREE DLC! (the mongols)

I'm going to let others complain about 2K and other topics.

I, for one, welcome our new Mongolian overlords.

Oh great, a human playing the Mongols might be able to win domination on a large map by 2000bc. Why make an already greatly overpowered unit even more overpowered?

I only hope these DLCs we'll be playable in multiplayer, for now Babylon is still not playable....

At least it's thematic that Firaxis sent Mongols to pacify us anyway. :p

I wonder if they are going to give the Mongols the generic Asian city graphics. I'd really like to see some gers.

Keshiks are fine and should be pretty powerful. What kind of a name is Khan for a unique unit though? Is it a special unique great general that only the Mongols can get? I guess unique great people like that would be kind of cool.

This really is only a band aid on a gaping wound. The gameplay will still be the same unfortunately. They certainly have their work cut out for them.

Mind you, super bash 'em with super horsemen will placate some for a little while.

It seems that Khan is replacement for Great General?!?

HE is being uncivil? :crazyeye:

Never mind him...

...

People are too busy complaining about free DLC (don't get me wrong I hate DLS in general myself) and no one really started to properly rant/speculate/complain on the content itself, so I'll start...

Ok, so I'm a villain for pointing out that somebody's post was condescending and then stating matter-of-factly that I would no longer engage them in conversation? did you read his response to me? I do not feel the need to be told where to place my anger (D2D vs. 2K), and I certainly did nothing to deserve the sarcasm-filled diatribe on conspiracy theories.

Should I apologize for defending myself with some conviction?

Lastly, my rant wasn't focused on the content, because the content is not what I am unhappy with!

Maybe this is in another thread, but I also note in that post that Babylon will be available for only $5.

There was grousing before release that a civ wasn't worth $10, but might be worth $5. Sounds like 2k agrees.

As an individual that received the retail collector's edition, I was less than happy that they didn't include Babylon (I knew it before buying it, but the art book, etc. was more valuable to me; I'm just upset that the collector's edition wasn't complete).

Yeah. I just saw that. I guess my hunch was right. :p

Very intriguing. :D

Hard to see the Mongol "city" graphics though and whether they are generic Asian city graphics or not. I suppose a good Mongol mod would fix that anyway.

I'd like to say thanks and also congratulate the artists on what looks like a pretty cool Genghis Khan. I'm really looking forward to playing as the Mongols and trying a new strategy of flattening city states.

The new patch looks great also - Civ 5 is only going to get better. Come on guys, so we've complained about the AI and diplomacy, the devs have announced a patch very soon and meanwhile the artists do a fantastic new civ for free. If you complain you can at least be grateful otherwise you're just a moaning minnie.

Is it possible that Civ5 might actually do away with expansion packs altogether, and just keep releasing pay-as-you-download DLC instead?

The next price of the next Civilization DLC should indicated what's up with Babylon and Mongols. So I'll reiterate my previous post in this thread.

First 5$ for a Civilization DLCs? really? IMO, that's too much.
Maybe it was going to be 2.50$. Then they decided to charge 5$ for one and give the other one for free. A sort of PR customer service control, and a bad one at that, but effective since "OMG it's free".
But what about all the bugs, and core design problem? Who cares?@@!@ we got FREE DLC.

I am curious how much the next Civilization DLC will be.

This is a clear indication that they know they have screwed up the "unscrewupable". Bribery, however, won't "polish a turd" as they say in the classics.
But wait, let's see if we can sponge some more money out of them! I wonder how many downloaded steam versions are no longer active?

Quite possible seeing how that's becoming more prevalent. If that's the case, I'll probably just wait for either a Steam Sale (since stuff goes on sale all the time there) or a compilation of DLCs (since they're always cheaper). Hopefully they do DLC and expansions, but it's too early to tell. An expansion would be the best way to add new mechanics so hopefully there is at least one.

Glad the Mongols will be free, because $4.99 USD is a little too much to pay for a civilization that can easily be modded in for free.

I'd be willing to pay $.99c for a civ. No more. Most people aren't made of money.

Woohoo! :eekdance:

This is the one civ I really missed. I hope the production quality of the Mongols is up there with the rest of the civs - if it is, it will be a fantastic addition to the game.

Although they could probably squeeze more money out of customers if they just released DLCs and sold all the would-be parts of an expansion pack piece by piece. Given the way they've handled Civ5 up to and including this Mongol DLC, I wouldn't be surprised...

I really hope this doesn't count as my "free" DLC from D2D. Had I not gotten the $10 off promo code (so only $40 for the game), I'd be fairly upset that I bought a pre-order promotion to get the first DLC free when the first DLC is free to begin with . . .
