Hi! Having trouble with Civ3 conquests. I've tried the atari troubleshooting suggestions (ie uninstall, reinstall) but this problem keeps happening...

Whenever i launch a scenario it tells me:

"Load error
FILE NOT FOUND
Art\units\galleon\galleonfidget.wav
The game will now exit."

Whatever scenario i do it always tells me one of these art files is missing for a naval unit. What else can i try doing apart from reinstalling?

Thanks for any tips! :)

Welcome to CFC vanessagatt! :)

Do you get this error only when load a custom scenario (is it one of the 9 Conquests or user made?) or when starting a normal game? If it is a user made scenario, you could try posting in their thread to see if they have a fix.

thanks for the quick reply...

it only happens when i load one of the original 9 scenarios. I haven't tried any custom scenarios. The normal game (or quick start) seems to start fine. Any ideas? Have you heard of this happening before?

 Please help!

I tried playing civ conquests starting on a computer generated map to see if this would work. This worded right up to the point where i could develop knights, then when i went to build my first knight the game crashed like above telling me file not found: ...knight(something).wav

I think its got something to do with some of the new units in conquests: probably not all the new units' .wav files intalled properly. But i have tried reinstalling several times and the same problem crops up.

I looked in their folders and it looked like there were some units that didn't have (...)Fidget.wav files, they ONLY had (...)Fidget.ini files, and these were the units that typically cause the game to crash when i load a scenario (ie Napoleonic scenario always crashes as soon as i load it because of GalleonFidget.wav if i load Prussians or FrigateFidget.wav if i load French).

What's really frustrating is that the game used to work on my old computer, but now its giving me trouble on this machine (a laptop running xp).

I love this game, bought it legitimately and really want to play it, but its treating me bad and i'm not techy enough to know how to fiddle with files!

Can someone please respond to my pathetic cry for help? Maybe with some instructions on files i need to download or copy...

Thankyou

Do you have a second computer you can try and install this on, and see if it works? If so, do that and see if you have the same problem.

I once had problems with sound files, too (I think it was the knightdeath-thing). One thing that worked fine for me: just copy one .wav file and rename it as the game demands. This might give you rather unappropriate sound effects, but I rarely use the sound anyways...
