Console Games Thread

Not that I wish to start bickering but Jason I have to assume you have the "s" version of the XBox controller, I mean the original was massive almost the size of a gamecube! ;) Anyway looks like Nintendo is going to start giving away free copies of Wind Waker with the purchase of a cube in May. http://www.avault.com/news/displaynews.asp?story=4152003-91849

I do not have the S controller, I prefer the larger one. It may look huge, and feel different in the begining (because its larger then the rest), but actually feels nice once you play for about 15 minutes. You hand isnt all scrunched up, and the buttons are place where you can easily push them.

The S controller is nice too...it reminds me of the PS2 controller. :)

And yes, I bet the big Xbox controller is as big as the Cube itself, lol.

My input - to each his own. Every guy is going to have his own favorite, despite all the stark 'facts'. Just stick to your own console and be happy.

Speaking of which, I shld be trying to get Dynasty Warriors 4... :yeah:

Of course people bicker about consoles. What did you expect this thread to turn into? ;)

The fact is everyone will always have a favorite unless they're really "hardcore" gamers who have all three. Xbox and Gamecube are the real rivals now, fighting for second place, fighting for SEGA, fighting for lots of other stuff. PS2 fanboys like being first but are feeling left out since most people consider the PS2 to be in the Dreamcast Era, so almost all comparsions are between Xbox and Gamecube.

But really, we should forget about sales. Have a favorite console, and play the fun games. Don't flame the other consoles. :)

Speaking of which, I should be trying to get a Freeloader for my Gameboy Player soon... :yeah:

Um, a good, clean thread where we could politely say "Xbox sucks" or "Gamecube sucks"? ;)

Regarding XBox's DVD player and other features, this is another reason I prefer GCN. If I want to watch a movie, I'll use a DVD player, and if I want to listen to music, I'll use my radio. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but shouldn't game systems be made for games?
I'll have to agree with Knight-Dragon, though. We Nintendo guys will just have to accept that not everyone has the level of enlightenment to realize how great the GCN is. ;) The reason this thread has evolved to GCN vs. XBox vs. PS2 is that they are all represented. To avoid this, and actually discuss the games, the systems must be discussed seperately. Alas, until we can all play nice, the consoles can't regain their historic dominance over the PC part of the game industry. ;)

hehehe..yes we haggle over the consoles and not the console games like the thread title says

so what games are available on all 3 systems?.I have a FIFA game for PS2......

I think the time is right for consoles to wipeout pc gaming...well not quite but certainly have a big impact. All the consoles have online capability now ;)
With the way PC games are going you almost need a new computer for every game:rolleyes:.I,for one, have had enough and have returned to the mighty console....

I stick to PCs for the market they dominate - strategy games. Consoles will probably never dominate the strategy game market for a couple of reasons - they can't patch easily (at least right now), their interface isn't good for strategy gaming (its not a keyboard) and mainly their history. I play a console for an instant gratification game, not a game that has no final objective, like Civ3. Also, consoles can't have expansion packs. :p And everyone loves an x-pack. ;)

Soul Caliber 2 is a big game that's coming out for all three, in August 27. I doubt I'll get it, but the main thing is that each console version has it's own exclusive player. GCN has Link, Xbox has Spawn, and PS2 has some Tekken guy (name is too long). It's a fighting game, so I don't know why I even mention this... :hmm:

PC games should stay dominating in strategy games. Consoles can't compete with that. Sure there's Advance Wars and other few games, but consoles just aren't made for those kind of stuff.

@Hbdragon88
This IS polite. Just go to GameFAQs and see the trolls not only between the rival consoles, but within it's own console as well.

I've been to GameFAQs, but never to consoles. Any board you can suggest to get some nasty debates?

The only trolls I've came upon was a GTA (Grand Theft Auto) and GTA: VC thread, twelve pages @ ten posts. That was a lot.

I fully agree. While it sucks to have a PC for gaming because the games just keep on needing higher requirements (the best game i can play for PC is civ3 :(), it is the best system for the best genre - strategy.

However, Xbox can have x-packs becuase of the harddrive :). Already it have patched my Dead or Alive game from a Xbox magazine disc, and it worked fine.

And Dreamcast had a keyboard (not sure if other consols can, maybe PS2?) for Phantasy Star Online, so you could type faster. However, you still used the controller to move. It would not be good to have a keyboard for a controller for a console, they're already too much like a computer :).

I think either Xbox or Gamecube boards will have the most debates. It's mostly fanboys vs. everyone else there. Mostly I stay upon the Gamecube board, but I've seen quite a few Xbox trolls go into the GC board saying things like "Celda Sucks!" and whatnot. Other people keep posting bad news about Nintendo, as Greekboy always does (one such is "Why was Wind Waker rushed?) his topics usually hit over 300 or so.
I remember there was a Xbox troll who hit 100 or so on his topic shortly after GameFAQs poll of the day clearly showed less people had Xbox. "Why not Xbox?" he said, and as the people of GC board started flaming, GC fanboys made statements, and more flames erupted. And yeah.
I think at a glane GC has more trolls, but Xbox has worse fanboys with less control. Go to Xbox boards and say "I dislike Halo" and you've got countless Xbox fanboys on you. PS2 is less than the others, but they still exist, as I have seen around two or three troll in the GC board. GC fanboys probably also troll in others.

In short, GameFAQs is a great example of how flames are unavoidable. Yes, they've got mods, but they only delete trolls about consoles, not fanboys. But flames aside, GameFAQs is a pretty good source of info.

And here's the console proportions of GameFAQs. Note that Xbox is clearly losing, which has caused the Xbox fanboys to erupt.

I snuck Gameboy Advance in there just to see how the handheld market compares with the console market ;)

It would have been helpful if you labeled the links with "Got Xbox" "Got PS2" and so on, but I clicked on all of them, and saw which was which.

I'll have to check on those boards...interesting.

They all CAN have a keboard, though there's little reason for them to. The NES had one, because Nintendo planned to turn it into something that could be used for many things besides gaming, such as banking, watching the Stock Market, etc. (the plan was to use kids to get them into homes, then start implementing the other stuff).
PCs will probably continue to dominate the strategy game market, for reasons already stated. RPGs are about system-neutral, but everything else works best with a proper console controller, not a mouse or keyboard.
BTW, with memory cards and discs being used on all systems now, wouldn't it be possible to patch games? Not that it makes much difference. Patches allow designers to be sloppy, since they know they can easily correct bugs and stuff later. Paks (or cartridges, if you insist;) ) demand initial quality.

Ah yes!..another major reason my pc gaming is narrowed to the afore mentioned genre. Its just too tempting and too easy for companies to ship unfinished, non working,we'll fix that later games.I've heard it compared to buying a car without the wheels or an engine. In fairness to makers,it is often publishers that pressure early or pre mature releases.

Far less bugs make it thru to console games.Has to be this way.Beta testing is extensive. This is very good for the consumer.

Yeah, I hate patches. What few glitches there are in console games rarely make a difference in gameplay. Doesn't look like that "soon to be made" patch for PTW has even come yet huh?

Anyways, now that we're (hopefully) done bickering over console wars, we should get back to talking about console games, shouldn't we?

PS2-Hogging all the good RPGs

Correction. I believe Japan hogs all good RPGs. I know of many quality RPGs, (mostly made by Square), that haven't been released anywhere else. There was a petition around once somewhere to try and persuade them to release them. Don't think it worked though. :(

If I could afford it, I'd have all consoles, but I can't, so I don't.

I'll have you know that Square never left. They are still developing games for ps2 and others. FFXI and FFXII are in development for ps2. (And pc in FFXIs case.)

This was also the main reason behind getting a ps2. So I could play FFX. :D

Ahh, it's thrawn...I didn't know you frequented CFC as well as the GameFAQs Civ3 boards. Coool.

Dreamcast has some awesome RPGs. Grandia II, Shenmue I/II (II is an import), and Skies of Arcadia come to mind.

Humph...................................

As long as KOEI games are made mostly for the PS2 there is no way I would buy any other system.

I used to be a hardcore SNES man but ever since all the KOEI classics moved to PS and PS2 I've converted.

Xbox, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot game controller. There is no way on earth I intend to make Bill Gates any richer than he already is.
