Cookbook #2 - horrible difficulty

Based on the saves I have seen I have only come to the conclusion that it is difficult to evaluate first turns with 40T frequency. It all depends on what you want to achieve. For me, early bpt is not that important because you can do wonders with some trade chips. On the other hand, infra or GPP which will allow you to have crucial techs and production in time for war is more important and very difficult to assess. Maybe if everyone had the same goal in the cookbook game, it would be much more comparable. Someone will whip to the ground for infra and someone will work the cottages and appear stronger on the first glance.

Think i agree, books work really well on Immortal (our first one was a huge success imo),
but for deity we might need something else.
I have an idea, but will plan it out some more before starting.

Hi, guys, I mostly played one other game from Tough Deity Maps, so I didn't really write anything up over the weekend but I do have a T131 save. I got Engineering and have first trebs plus prebuilt Xbow army and have captured the first city.

Spoiler About the war and the decisions :

I was dwelling a bit upon who to attack first. In my game, GK is involved into war with Monty and Shaka (vassal of Monty) and is an easy target. However, I also see that Monty, who is a potential runaway, is having a lot of success and has turned his army to GK. Therefore, if I join a war against GK, there is a huge chance I 'll get one, maybe two cities and then GK will capitulate to Monty. Afterwards, Monty is even stronger and my feeble production will never be able to take him out. That is why I attacked Monty, if I take him out while his stack is busy elsewhere, I can easily turn to GK next and Shaka the last. Anyway, easier said than done. But I got one city at least, I think there were only 2-3 unsuspecting defenders, and have a stack of 10-11 units against 2 LBs in Tenochtitlan. BTW, I am using my workers as scouts. With 3 moves, they can go deeply into an enemy territory and provide valuable info. Monty managed to capture Karakorum and his stack will now need to heal before moving, therefore, I should be able to get some chance on holding his capital and maybe to get something else. Then, cease fire with him, heal, and wait for reinforcements and ambush him again. Also, Monty did not really attack GK on his own. Like often in the life, you have to give to get something. Therefore, to stand a chance against him and the map I sacrificed a little that I had as a tech edge:

Now I have a decision to make, I can also bribe Alex against Monty, but that will take some gold and will delay CS which will help with all the problematic areas, gold, research and production. I do not know whether I can afford the delay. But also, don't know whether I can survive Monty's reinforcements. Better to open one more front, decrease the chance Monty will cap GK and build some relations with Alex.

Nice going Shaka!
Going head to head with the strongest AI seems to be the safest best most of the time, paradoxical enough.

I do think the bribes was/is worth it, if only you can manage to get some cities from monty.
I would think that one has to keep an eye or two on the frenchman too, who seems to be getting ahead in tech abit, and is helft to his own devices.

Thanks for the reply, krikav.
Yes, I also lean to keep bribing. I think that turning Monty against GK is much better than turning him against Nappy or Alex. Now, both of my neighbours will get weaker. Otherwise, GK would have attacked me for sure.

Nappy is definitely a runaway. However, I think that I can take him out in the later era, or simply win Domination. I intend to stay friends with him and currently do not have any negative diplo.

Interesting game :)
I like small warmonger maps, always something interesting going on, and you can play with knowing it will not take hours of naval movement etc.

That, and distances pose a threat to tech lead. "Let's set sail for HC, he just got rifles...aaaaand it took me 10 turns to get there, he's 2 turns from infantry now."
