Apparently a large chunk of the Spanish-sounding city names in SoCal are completely made up, dunno if that's the case with NorCal.

I see some suspicious ones in that list: La Honda, Novato, Manteca...

My city name : "Rzeszów" - try to say it in english :D happy tongue breaking :D

No one has mentioned this one yet: Hell, MI A cool name that would get boring after a while?

What does "Chrząszczyżewoszyce" even means? Is it something along the lines of 'There is God, and he abandoned you 13 billion years ago'?

What does "Chrząszczyżewoszyce" even means?

It means something like "place where beetles live".

Since "chrząszcz" is "beetle" in Polish.

And there even exists a village with a very similar name - Chrząszczyce (German name: Chrzumczütz): :D

But we might consult professor Jan Miodek to confirm if this is what it really means:

Å would be so cool if you are kind of lazy and hate writing long addresses (if it weren't for all the other places by the same name). 1770 is different. Couple of sellout towns to big business (DISH and Half.com) There is actually three Borings, though getting information on the one in TN is difficult. A dozen or so places I wouldn't want my kids to ever hear.

Krusty, Bad Axe and Bliss. Lol. Apparently, these cities are a bit of a famous tourist destination because of its unique names

Anyone mention Butte, Montana yet? Always an amusing one.

In Spain there is Villanueva del Pardillo: Linnet's newvillage, the funny thing is that pardillo is as well slang for an oaf, an idiot, so another traduction could be oaf's newvillage.
You can find as well Guarroman. Guarro= Piggy so it is the Piggy superhero

I consider Boring names those which are similar to Newtown, newhouse and so on. In the basque country we have Etxebarri (New House) Uribarri (New urban area), Lekumberri (new place), erriberri (newtown) and so on

EDIT: Before I forget, if we have any Italian here... we have a small town called Fica, you know what i mean ;)

Ctesiphon just sounds cool :yup:

Don't know its etymology though, but at least it is tied to Seleucos Nicator (and probably also Alexander the Great). Also it was the old capital of the Sassanid empire, and the place where Julian got himself wounded and soon died, causing as well the empire to lose most of Mesopotamia.

It's pronounced "b-you-t." :mischief:

I find towns named after English towns, which are not in England, to be boring. Exceptions generally granted if the name begins with "New."

Also, how many regions are called Galicia? Too many. Points deducted for lack of originality.

What I really love are the Central Asian names. Bishkek, Osh, Andijan, Samarkand, Karakalpak, Dushanbe, Ferghana, Kyrgyz. Also, Chinese names: Tien Shan, Sichuan, Xinjiang, Shanxi.

There are at least two Galicias and one Galatia, but yeah, too many.

And I totally agree that Central Asia is a treasure trove of cool names.

Galicia is in Spain.
Галици(ј)а is in Eastern Europe.

Australia seems to have its fair share of interesting place names. Two 'local government areas' in Sydney are Blacktown and Manly. The former got is name because an Aboriginal school was established there, and the latter because apparently the Aboriginal men were quite manly.

Lots of places have Aboriginal names, from suburbs such as Woolloomooloo, to towns/cities such as Dubbo. My personal favourite is Dunedoo (which isn't too far from Nyngan).
