BTW, Hasn't nobody noticed the UGE error in spelling I made in the titel, or are you guys just to polite to mention that???:mischief::p

I did notice. I'm making a bit of an effort not to be the grammar police, since it's a bit of a vice of mine.

Err, it is the lack of 'i' in intelligence, right?

EDIT: Because that's a small error and the only one in the title. :)

yeah it's the "i" but it is bugging the hell out of me :p

Do you know if it's possible to make changes in the title of a thread?

Cilix looked around the camp. The party had grown significantly since they had left Athens a year ago. They had encountered several smaller tribes that inhabited these lands. Everywere they had come the locals had showered them with tribute and there where always people who wanted to join his party. Now he commanded a group of 30 people, almost a small tribe. He thought for a while and then walked towards Cadmus. “Cadmus” he said when he reached his brother, “Come with me, we need to talk”. Cadmus was just putting an edge on his hunting knife, carefully wrapped his tools away, sheated his knife and stood up. “all right, let’s walk” he said, knowing his brother. Cilix nodded, he had indeed wanted to talk in private, and they both strolled out of camp. “You have been my adjudant for how long now?” Cilix asked “three years, four?” “Something like that” Cadmus answered, wondering were his brother was going with this conversation. “At this moment, our party is to big to effectively scout, so I’m going to split the group and I want you to take command of the second group” Cadmus looked at his brother in happy disbelieve “You’re kidding?” he started “You’re not kidding!” he in a joyous shout. “I’m not kidding” Cilix said with a grin on his face, his brothers good mood was infectious “I’ve been talking with Pericles to give you your own command but there just weren’t enough scouts. Now ther are so I give you a field promotion” he said winking at his brother. “But” he continued, more seriously now “It’s a big responsibility and you must appoint a second-in-command” Cadmus became more serious but couldn’t stop smiling “Can I appoint anyone?” he asked “Almost anyone, I’ll keep Phoenix but besides him you are free to choose. I do however recommend you choose Illyrius” Cilix told his brother. “I think I will appoint him” Cadmus said thoughtfullly. “Good, tomorrow we will split the group. You will go north and I will go south” Cilix ended the meeting. Together they walked back into camp, Cadmus still with a big smile on his face.

Cadmus stands up to talk with Cilix

Cilix walked with his scoutingparty, they were almost out of the desert. Two days ago they had split the group and Cilix was wondering how his brother experienced his first real command. He, on his part, was pleased with his new adjudant, Phoenix. He wasn’t as good as Cadmus had been but he was up to a good start. He was full of energy and eager to proof himself to Cilix. Cilix heard a disturbing and looked around. He saw Phoenix running towards him al the while pointing to a hill in the distance. “Sir, sir” he said while gasping for breath. “Breath man, breath” Cilix told his second in command “and how many times do I have to tell you that you don’t have to call me sir, you’re my second in command and my name is Cilix, allright?” Yes Sir.. eh Cilix” Phoenix answered. “Now tell me what is al that fuss about?” “There is a group of people on that hill, they look better dressed than the usual small tribes we encounter” Phoenix told Cilix. Cilix peered towards the hill and could indeed see a group of people but he couldn’t distinguished there clothes. However, he knew that Phoenix eyes were better that his. Cilix quickly thought the situation over and gave his orders. “Van out people, keep you’re weapons sheated but at the ready. We will advance at a walking pace. Do not, I repeat, do NOT make any threatening moves.” The Greeks quickly followed the orders and the advanced towards the men on the hill.
When the Greeks came closer two men walked towards them. Cilix ordered his men to halt and continued together with Phoenix. “Greetings” one of the men said “I’m Khonsu from the Eagyptian nation” Now the men had come closer it was clear that they were better dressed then the people they had met before. Ther clothes were finnaly cut and they wore chains around neck and wrist of a shiny yellow metal. “My name is Cilix and I am from the Greek nation” Cilix introduced himself “And this is Phoenix, my second in command. Would you like to join camps en share a meal?” “We would like that” Khonsu answered polite “It will give us the perfect oppurtunity to share knowledge of our nations” And so both scouting parties set up camp next to each other. They stayed together for a week all the time talking to each other and learning about the other nations.

Pericles Guard garrisoning in Atherns

Together with Alcibiades, Socrates walked through the forest north of the village. It still wasn’t completely save. Barbarians still stalked these forests sometimes, but since the invention of the bow and arrow, the immidiate threat had become less. Both youths carries a bow and a quiver with arrows. Alcibiades had enlisted in the first regiment of archers, Pericles Guard they het called themselves, and was now very skilled in the use of the bow. Socrates however was just moderatly skilled, while he had the most practice of the two, he had helped with the development, he never managed to really become a bowmaster. It didn’t bothered him bezause he had never seen himself as a warrior.
“why are we here” Alcibiades asked Socrates for the 4th time since they left the village. “You’ll see” Socrates said mystiriously “I have an idea and if I can get real it would give our nation a great advantage” Alcibiades sighed, he liked Socrates very much, they had been friends as long as he remembered but sometimes he was unbearable. When Socrates had come to him earlier today with that look in his eyes he had known it was that time again. Socrates had an idea and nobody could stop him executing it. So he had agreed to come with him to the forest to make sure Socrates wasn’t harmed.
“That’s it” Socrates exclaimed pointing at a huge bolder. “What? Behind that rock?” Alcibiades asked quizzically trying to look behind the bolder. The bolder lay on the ground. It was at least as high as the under leg of a grown man an as long that same man. “Now, it is that rock” Socrates said with a sattisfied look on his face “Come help me get this thing to the village” “You got to be kidding me” Alcibiades said “How the hell are we supossed to carry that thing??” “Oohw but we aren’t going to carry it” Socrates said with a smug smile “Go find a long, strong piece of wood and a smaller rock, I’ll explain later”. Alcibiades threw his arms in the air and walked away. Socrates chuckled about his annoyed friend and started to work.
When Alcibiades returned to the site he saw that Socrates hadn’t been lazy. He had cleared large path in the direction of the village. “Here are the stone and wood you requested” Alcibiades called out to Socrates, who was still clearing some undergrowth away 30 meters away. Socrates looked up “great!” he stood up and walked towards the bolder. “So? Whats the plan?” Alcibiades asked. Socrates started drawing in the sand what he had in mind to get the bolder to the village. “This is how we will start rolling the bolder. It’s down hill towards the village so it should keep rolling and we just have to steer it in the right direction” They started to work and minutes later the bolder started roling. The bolder rolled faster and faster and at some point both youths lost control of the bolder and it rumbled towards the village.

The drawing of Socrates to explain his plan

A few Greeks, who had just chopped some wood, were walking back towards the village. They were alle carrying large loads of the chopped wood on there backs and didn’t talk. Suddenly they heard something coming crashing out of the forest followed by shouts of warning. “WATCH OUT!! GET OUT OF THE WAY!!” They heard. One of them look back and instantly dropped his bundel of wood and jumped to the side calling to his companions to get out of the way. All of them dropped there budels and followed his example. One of them however got one of his legs stuck between some logs and tripped. He looked towards the bolder, which was rolling towards him with incredible speed.. He tried to get his leg free but the pieces of rope, there to hold the bundels together prevented this. The bolder was getting closer and closer. He hadn’t much time now, in mere seconds he would be smashed by the bolder. Desperatly he started kicking with his leg, he needed to free himself and soon. Suddenly his leg shot free, when he looked up he saw that one of his companions had cut the ropes. His companion took a step, grapped in the armpit and hauled him out of the way of the bolder and jump after him. Merely a second after this the bolder rumbled past and continued towards the village, crushing every thing that stood in its path. Finally the bolder stopt inside one of the houses at the outskirts of the village.

And like always..... this chapter isn't finnished yet

Just checking you do know Socrates was not the guy who made the levers :D

haha, yeah I do ;) The invention of the lever was just something that naturally happened writing this story.. didn't really plan that he would invent it :p
