COTM 10 Pre-Game Discussion

SW,SW doesn't look like hills to me, whereas S,SW does, and even wine on hills doesn't give a food bonus until after despotism.
Hills = 1 food
Wines =+1 food
Wines on hills give 2 food. It does work even if you can't get the full shield effect from mining the hill.

Now there are cases were bonus are wasted such as irrigated sugar on plains.

Wines on plains waste the food bonus with irrigation.

Sorry, my mistake, I meant a food bonus that surpasses a normal grassland tile or irrigated plains.

First CotM here. I'll probably go Domination, haven't had one in a while. I'm thinking Scout W, Worker SE, just to uncover both sides. Then move settler from that information.

Well, this is my first COTM, and it sure looks like it will be a major pain in the arse at the start. Just got the save now.

Yea this is my first as well... It looks ruff but intreguing.... Can't wait to get home from work and take a stab at this one....

A question: It looks to me like the hill E of start has got the tail end of the river. If one were to settle there, and there is grassland directly E but no longer on the river, can that grassland be irrigated through the town, or no since the town is on a nonirrigable hill? All quite possibly moot as I will likely end up moving 2ce before settling from the looks of things.

If any town settled on the tile near fresh water all tiles are contiguous to this town may be irrigated. Only in Classic Civ III it doesn't work with hill town.

Sorry so late but I won't have the chance to start playing until later on tonight.

Still haven’t decided yet if I’ll play the Open class or Conquest class. I guess I’ll decide tonight when I start playing. Either way I think I’m going to attempt a Domination or Conquest win since I haven’t won either way yet on Civ3.

Not sure exactly which victory condition as since I haven’t done either one I don’t know how the massive empire size (as in Domination victory) would affect corruption in my core. So I’ll just make my decision as I progress.

Besides, we’re playing the Mongols; I feel like I have to conquer the world.

Just about to start this one myself.

If you REALLY want to conquer the world, you should try GOTM25, the first time we used the Mongols. The Keshik was deemed not sufficiently overwhelming with regards to the impact the Mongols had on history, and was replaced by 4 other unique units! My favorite was the Khorchin, which replaced Longbow on the Tech tree - picture a Viking Berserk unit with 3 Movement points and Lethal Bombardment!! :D (Well, it's defense was only 1, but so what? I recorded over 100 Lethal Bombardment kills with my Khorchin.)

I'm off to see what the Keshik is capable of.

It looks like some flat ground to the SW and maybe out to the E. I think Wo-W & Sc-SE or E to start and then see if there is a good starting location (1SW?).

It will be a late start for me, we're going to Hokkaido for some skiing.
I agree it looks like grass to the SW. So I'll probably move Sc-N then W to see what's over there as I just hate wasting movement points. If it looks reasonable I'll then move Wo-W or SW.

Oh and it's a really late start for me.
