I forgot the reasons why windows vista was bad. I know im majoring in computers but i dont know much about software.

I more of a troubleshooting and hardware guy and i havent kept up to date on vista.

Why is vista bad and why should i not upgrade?

Please explain.

EDIT: OOPS I MEANT THE COMPUTER TOPIC FORUM... please move it.

It's probably going to be buggy, some of your games won't work on it, and its Windows, that should be the only reason you need.

There's nothing too wrong with windows. If you stay away from the dirty sites and are not important in the world, you're safe from most things. It's not as if some random, bored hacker is going to find your Windows system and destroy your computer. However, I have heard bad things about Vista so yeah, don't get it.

Remember, Macs don't get viruses because nobody really uses them, so nobody bothers to make viruses for Macs

But you could always run windows on a mac right? But that would defeat the purpose i guess.

An article a while back was talking about how because Vista tries so hard to copy protect everything, performance won't be all that outstanding. Even the interface itself is very expensive to run.

Vista seems like a helpful person, and I hate people who are trying to be helpful.

Get your hands off of my computer, Windows, I know what I am doing. I don't need some computer to tell me that I am missing out the newest 50 Cent CD...

I love my computer, but I hate it so much, too. Just go with Windows 2000, you will be better off.

Hehe remember windows ME?

Windows Vista is just too much of a hassel when upgrading from XP. Personally, I am sticking with XP since at least she is stable with much of my games, programs, and hardware.

Who can ever forget the crashing and freezing antics of ME-tan ;)

20+ GB install doesnt help either

Wow - What a piece of crap!
WOW!! - Its like the computer version of the SDP40. Its prone to crash on you!

WOW!!! I am sticking with the XP-twins (Homeko (XP home) and XP-tan (XP professional))

From Groklaw:
Bad Points:

1. You cede control of your computer to Microsoft.
2. You cede control of your data to Microsoft.
3. You assist Microsoft in exerting control over other personal computer users.
4. You assist Microsoft in their attempts to replace the open HTML with Microsoft's substitute.
5. You assist Microsoft in their attempt to replace the ISO standard PDF with Microsoft's non-standard, controlled substitute.
6. You assist Microsoft in maintaining their lock on OEM retail sales of personal computers.
7. You assist Microsoft in further extending their control over after-market hardware manufacturers.

Anyone who allows himself to be used by Vista is no friend to any other person on the planet.

For more information, see A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection, by Peter Gutmann. By the way, "Windows Genuine Advantage" must have caused too much embarrassment to Microsoft, what with the public outrage and the lawsuits, because they've changed its name for Vista.

Thanks for all the reasons. It looks like i wont be getting vista anytime soon, if ever. ;)

Getting Vista is like agreeing to be sterilized.

Windows is a cancer ; we can't seem to be able to get rid of it at once, but some are making a real effort trying to.

Wow - It costs HOW MUCH???

Wow - Look at those hardware requirements!

Wow - It won't let me make a remix CD of my own CDs!

Wow - It won't let me convert my DVDs to play on my iPod!

Wow - What a piece of crap!
Wow - Stop making stuff up.

I've ripped and burned CDs with built-in Windows Media Player. And for the hell of it, I just installed DVD Decrypter and ripped my Batman Begins DVD. Granted WMP can't play DVDs in folders like that, but VLC works. Afterwards I used HandBrake (search the Doom9 forums) to convert the .vob files to x264, which also happily plays in VLC.

So where's your proof that CD ripping/burning, DVD conversion doesn't work on Vista?
