Crashes on selecting specific Empires

Hey.

I have the Complete edition of Civilization IV, which I got from my friend.

I have an interest in playing Beyond the Sword the most, because it features one of my heroes, Charles de Gaulle.

However, selecting "French Empire" on the "Play Now!" submenu shows a black box where de Gaulle's portrait would be, and shortly after selecting it, the game immediately crashes, with no specific error message (sans the "This program has stopped responding..." crap).

Unusually, I can access every other Empire just fine; only selecting the French Empire causes crashes. Meeting de Gaulle, Napoleon or Louis the XIV in ordinary gameplay also causes the game to crash.

Furthermore, in vanilla Civ IV and Warlords, the French Empire is usable, and I have experienced no problems with it yet.

Can anyone help me with this bizarre issue?

I'm using Windows 7 32 Bit, nVidia graphics card, an AMD processor...and I think that's about it.

Welcome to CFC :).

There's obviously a problem with your installation, the graphics for Charles de Gaulle seem to be missing (or more exact the folder). I guess you also can't see anything if you look him up in the civilopedia.

The easiest advice here is to reinstall the game, to ensure that really everything is where it should be.

EDIT: Disregard. I rebooted my computer, and the game works perfectly now...Turns out it was a problem with my graphics card (Unreal Tournament 2004 was also crapping out earlier).
