Pop-ups to not miss out on the action?

RTS/diplomatic games?

This guy has never played Civ, but is he confused on turn based games?

Multiple zoom levels?

Curved earth?

There is still a little bit about the ranged capability world map flag and possibble counter measures against ranged units.

There has been some hint of a "strategic view." I wonder if this is what he's referring to as the "world map." I'm imagining an icon-based map (like when you zoom all of the way out in GalCiv2) that provides a lot of information without all of the graphical detail.

Are you replying to the wrong thread ?

No, just asking questions based on this review. This reviewer has never played civ before so he probably has a different perspective than a person who has. He is not prejudiced in looking at what he "wants" to see. It is a pitty he did not go into more detail of what he saw. Could he have said more from a 15 minute "show"? Maybe.

He said massive world map. From a veteran player, and the screen shots we have so far, these maps are not massive. Firaxes is trying to highlight "over and over" again the changes they are making. This reviewer would probably remember the highlighted points more as opposed to going in with certain ideas of what to look for. Did the "program" start out with a brief look at a larger map and then zoom in for closer action. Even from the screen shots we have, we may have already confirmed there is somewhat of a zooming in and out feature.

From all of my reading of these threads, I have missed the discussion on the mechanics of how exactly unit movement will be implemented. This is the first reviewer who mentioned an arc showing the placement of a move before a move happens. Veterens tend to overlook the mechanics for the end result.

For example people have just now started to discuss how troops are going to get across the seas. We have seen a picture of a galley and have heard about a unit changing into a civilian transport. But people are just now starting to argue the mechanics from this weekends show. I am just pointing out there may be little glimpses that should not be put down because they just seem to be the same old news. They may be part of a bigger picture when placed together as a whole.

Well unit movement is pretty well known at the time. FE, a warrior can move two tiles and not more across a road. there is still the terrain penalty that has not been mentioned but my opinion is that it has been left unchanged. The arc refers to the shooting trajectories of any given ranged attacks.

As for Earth curvature and zoom levels, there isn't any mention of such things but ity doesn't mean there will not be present in the game. I don't see any reason to not have these functionalities implemented.

I guess you are expecting too much from a single preview, but cross-refs are a safe way to get a good understanding of what is coming on.
