Crusader Kings 2

Or Messalian. :D

I'm quite excited to be able to engage in some wholesome sibling bonding.

Crusader Kings II: Way of Life - Fun for all the family!
*at least the in-game one

Fun fact: West Virigia is one of the U.S. states that prohibits cousin marriage. Make of that what you will.

That's divine marriage. You need priest approval to bang your family.

No more than you'd need the Church's approval to bang your spouse if your Catholic. Historically speaking the concept of divine marriage as shown in-game represents more so the fact that incestuous unions were a spiritual and religious ideal (sort of like going on the Hajj for Muslims or something), in fact the greatest deed anybody can do.

Well, things typically aren't criminalized unless they've become a problem. Incidentally, my mom's uncle and my dad's aunt were married before both my parents were born, so I'm legally my own cousin.

From what I've vaguely heard in the Appalachians (regardless of whether the state allows it or not) they're actually more culturally hardline against cousin marriages compared to the more urbanized, diverse areas of the country, relatively speaking (America's pretty hardline against cousin marriage anyways).

Yep, the incestuous union is holy, but incestuous extramarital adultery is not. The church and the public will not endorse it.

Hmm. Incestuous extramarital adultery. I see, that makes more sense. That would be an interesting question in terms of pre-Islamic Iranian law and theology.

Now incest was considered the holiest thing you could possibly do - having supposed miraculous powers including demon exorcism, increased crop growth, stronger and more intelligent children, spiritual awareness, among other things - with no other spiritual act (whether it's prayer, charity, worship, whatever) comparing to it, and, more importantly, the only thing that could even counter its effects is anal sex, so I wonder how adulterous incest would be considered. Because yes, adultery is a no-no, but on the other hand, incest, well, is apparently so holy so it is interesting thinking about how the Zoroastrians would've had to deal with that.

Now that I think about it, I do know that in old Iranian law, as well as Zoroastrian scripture, breaking up a Xwedodah relationship is a very, very, very bad sin, so I wonder if, say, your wife's brother demanded you hand her over, you'd be forced to give her over anyways.

Oh, sure, and are you going to bring up France's rich and successful military history now too?

You cant marry yourself then.

Well, you see, contrary to the stereotype, France was historically a very successful -

Oh, wait, we're being sarcastic here. :mischief:

So Greenmangaming is the first to have pre-orders for Way of Life up: http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/strategy/crusader-kings-ii-way-life/

Release date is apparently December 16.

From the description on that page:

Face up to the toil, struggle, pain, strife and hardships of leadership in the latest expansion for Crusader Kings II.

Developed by award winning Paradox Development Studios. The latest iteration to the franchise follows in the proud tradition of introducing defining new game elements to the narrative.

Crusader Kings II: Way of Life allows you to live life the way you like, be it as a peaceful mystic, a family man or a master of war. Each chosen focus will tell a different tale and presents an opportunity to forge your path to success by setting your focus and shaping the destiny of your empire.

Key Features:

  • Set a Focus (a "way of life") for your character to give them an immediate skill boost, develop their abilities and determine the kind of events and decisions they tend to get (there are ten of these focuses: Rulership, Business, Hunting, War, Family, Carousing, Seduction, Intrigue, Scholarship and Theology.)
  • Hundreds of new events and 20 new images.
  • Many new diplomatic interactions (Duel, Seduce, Banish to Monastery, Break up with Lover, etc)

So though fans have more or less figured out much of this from the game code, it's nice to see some official recognition for some of them, like the focuses (foci?) and the duels.

In eight days' time, with no official announcement, DDs or the like?

I wish if you could seduce a ruler, you could also assassinate him. Bye, Karlings! It seems the exotic Naplese princess wanted your lands up in Italy.

Hmm. So now that I think about it, my brother and I could both try to woo our sister and then duel over her. Unless - plot twist - she wants us both.

In eight days' time, with no official announcement, DDs or the like?

There will be a stream tomorrow at 15:00 CEST - it will be three hours, the first two or so dedicated to the new EUIV patch, and the last hour for WoL. I'm not eager to have to through another stream, so I'm hoping there is a dEV diary later this week.

So you can't combine seduction and intrigue? :/

It's not that rare, parents or older siblings do sexually abusing younger kids.
However, the publicity would be grave for the family.

First, you seem to be confusing two definitions of incest: 1) as a form of abuse between family members, and 2) as any sort of romantic/sexual relationship between close family members regardless of whether it is abusive or consensual. The game likely concerns the latter definition. Secondly, and more importantly, I'm talking about the rarity of incest events in the game here, it would be rather immersion breaking if every generation you were bonking your brother/sister behind your spouse's back.
