Crusader Kings 3

I hope you enjoyed the free week of CK3 last week. I did and so I bought the game. I'm actually 25 years into my Ireland campaign, which compared to my previous Paradox games is A LOT. My first ruler (Dublin) was able to become King of Ireland, although I don't know what good that does me. I captured 9 counties (of 14), but upon his death, my new character only has 4. My two brothers control 2 each and non-family vassal controls 1. The next generation I have 3 sons, so my next guy will have just 2 counties. Capturing more counties just earns you another unruly vassal to placate. Plus I married off my son and heir to a genius "not attracted to men" (I didn't see that part about her) so I only have 1 grandson, (but he's a genius). My only way forward is a plan to create the kingdom of Wales. I can do this because a Welsh duke adopted iconoclasm, but I need gobs of piety to launch a holy war. To help me earn piety I became "celibate", then my councilor murdered my wife (the queen), but my new wife, (who had really good stats), immediately became a "fornicator" because I'm "celibate"! No problem, I'm "forgiving". I can divorce her at any time, (but she has really good stats). So, I pile up piety which I can trade for gold from the pope to build up my army so I can launch the holy war in about 10 years of game time when I will meet the requirements. And so it goes...

Is CK3 really much better than CK2?
Much better? No.
Different.
Easier to get in to, more easily understandable rules for stuff like inheritance.
Less options than if you had all the CK2 dlc.
Also can't select from any date anymore. Most people always started from 867 or 1066 but if you wanted to play from another date you had the option in CK2. Not so in CK3.

CK3 does that have that about it you're not bored stiff in between wars. And there're so many little interactions and events happening all the time it really feels like a living, breathing dynamic world

I enjoy the Tours expansion for CK3 for enabling more peace time adventures, especially with the the tourneys and the physical dynamics of going around places. I like to times find ways to take my chars on long journeys to visit far off places just for the tale such makes.

How are the journeys in the Tours expansion different from the base game, apart from the extra content? I have the base game, and I also have my character physically traversing the map when on a journey, and the ability to customise my itinerary, and a lot of journey-related events (it feels like almost every single journey has a member of my entourage falling hopelessly in love with some dame we met on the way)

Hmm... I tend to have the expansions, so this may mean I admit to not have ability compare fully the base updates vs DLC content but the Tourneys are fun to have (especially for the knights) and the Tours do have a dynamic I do enjoy.

Looking at the wiki description, Tours lets you travel your realm and visit your vassals when you feel like it. In the base game you only visit them when going on some activity, like a feast or a pilgrimage.

I don't know about CK3 Tourneys. In CK2 they're a surefire way of killing off your best commanders.

Accident can happen at Tourneys, although money can help counter that unless you want there to be accidents via a low investment in grounds.

CK3 are good for recruiting new knights and for my char to perform archery, chess, jousting etch.

On adventuring: I had a ironman run as Haesteining in Italia, setting empire there under Ragnar. After four emperors will the name Folki/Falco, ended up converting to Catholicism. After the death of the great steward, scholar and builder of universities Emrico, ended up jumping to play his scholarly eldest child, Princess Margarita, in adventure to leave the throne to a young emperor. Went legitimist in attempt to move to claim Galacia.

Alas, son and heir ended up King of France, removing me of a heir. Gambled with a war for Galacia but disease claimed my scholar princess, thus ending my run.

Shame on the way it ended but it was a fun adventure.

I will do a Haestein run again, because the way it ended was not to my plans but still joy be joy.
