CTIV-1: The Turtle Game

Got it. Will play tonight.

(0) 1350AD
- MM A-M to prioritize production: Globe Theatre drops from 10 to 8 turns. A-M is now stagnant, but since it is already at +2 unhealthiness this is no bad thing.
- Notice that Lahore is building a settler. Why? Where is he supposed to go? I just can’t remember…

(1) 1360AD
- Liz has a bright idea. Open borders? Surely Madam must be joking?
- Bombay: market -> caravel
- Karachi’s borders expand, increasing the pressure on Hastings.

1360hastings.jpg

(2) 1370AD
- Liz is back again: this time she tries offering us dyes for our ivory, but alas, the Great Turtle forbids us to trade ivory.
- Now Hatty appears and “requests” Code of Laws. Unfortunately, my Christmas spirit has been exhausted and I am not in a giving mood, so away she goes, disappointed. I suspect I won't be on her Christmas card list next year.
- Delhi: pikeman -> worker
- Lahore: settler -> pikeman
- Karachi: forge -> monastery
- I still don't know what to do with this wretched settler so I decide to send him to Delhi (our nation’s laws forbid me from sending him to Coventry). Time for a group decision, I think.

(3) 1380AD
- A knock at the door heralds the arrival of… yes, it’s our favourite virgin Queen. And what is Madam’s pleasure today? Code of Laws? Never heard of it. Try asking Hatty.

(4) 1390AD
beer.gif
(to celebrate the absence of annoying female regents)

(5) 1400AD
- Guilds -> Music (the Great Artist has surely already been grabbed, but the Buddhist Stupa will be useful in A-M)
- Delhi: worker -> grocer
- Lahore: pikeman -> grocer
- Kolhapur: library -> lighthouse (desperately needed)
- Notice that we still have an elephant roaming wild: send some workers with their shovels. Big shovels

(6) 1410AD

1410pliny.jpg

- Ananda (Great Prophet) born in Delhi. Obviously we can’t build a shrine, so I’ll hang on to him so that the group can decide how best to use him.

(7) 1420AD
- Bombay: caravel -> aqueduct
- Karachi: monastery -> aqueduct
- Switch Delhi from grocer to research for one turn so that Music arrives in 1430AD (will coincide with Globe finishing at A-M)

(8) 1430AD
- Music -> Civil Service
- A-M: Globe Theatre -> Buddhist Stupa

(9) 1440AD

Apparently coffee will keep me up all night.

And I don't like port.

With a bit of luck Hastings will start revolting soon...

We may want to use the prophet to help us get most of the research for Civil Service. See METH01 if you want to know why :mischief: :D

I was bulding the settler; sorry if that slipped from my report. Too much port, I guess :D

Lahore didn't really have anything better to build, and I think we can put another city either in the very southern tip or the NE corner. I need to open up the game to be certain, though.

I don't think we have a choice: Theology is the tech on offer. In METH01 you had already researched Theology by the time you got your Great Prophet.

So, either we use GP for Theo, or we switch to Theo and research it "manually" and then use GP for CS.

Good point, I didn't think of that. One more option: save it for a Golden Age.

Remember, when we get Theology we have to revolt to Theocracy ...

I know we were looking at dot maps at one point, but I just couldn't remember whether we had come to a decision about placement.
Blackluck will know what to do. :)

Looked at the save. There's absolutely no point in using the prophet to research, since we're researching big time (way better than Meth01). I'd say hold on to the prophet and go for a Golden Age with the next one.

There are several spots we can build a city on, however, Hastings right now is 3% English (that has to be a typo), so we should probably wait (or put in on the east coast) because I suspect Hastings may be revolting shortly ...

EDIT: BTW, remind me to thank Hattie for building a Windmill for us ... I just hope she finishes before we absorb the hill ...

One More Thing(TM): Bombay is about to grow and be unhealthy. I would switch from a 2F2C tile to the 2H5C, that'll get the aqueduct quicker and provide some extra commerce.

I just had a very long turn in my other SG (ironically, following the formidable Scowler.) I'll be able to take my turn tomorrow, unless ChrTh wants to swap with me.

I agree with holding out the prophet for a Golden Age. I think the settler should fill out the unworked floodplains betwen Dehli and our easternmost coastal city. Since it is so close, we should take only a minimal hit in city maintenance.

I won't have time tonight, and am working tomorrow morning, so go ahead when you have a chance.

I haven't been able to get to this this weekend as I had hoped. Can I get a swap/skip ChrTh?

Turn 0 -- 1450 AD

I switch Madras from Research to Castle to get a little extra culture on the border (Civil Service still due in 3)

Everything else looks pretty good.

Turn 1 -- 1460 AD

Bangalore: Market > Forge (with Grocer to follow)

Archimedes is BIFAL

Great Prophet is put to sleep.

I decide to send the settler to the Eastern coast (will have access to Ivory and Corn in that spot, as well as another coastal city)

Turn 2 -- 1470 AD

Lahore: Grocer > Buddhist Stupa

Turn 3 -- 1480 AD

Civil Service is in, I start Theology (almost Theocracy time)
Delhi: Grocer > Maceman

ISLAM HAS BEEN FOUND IN HASTINGS!!!! WOW, sucks for Liz, huh? Can a Holy City flip?

Sistine Chapel BIFAL

Jaipur is built on the coast. Starts Theatre.

Turn 4 -- 1490 AD

Heron is BIFAL

We have met MANSA MUSA. All he has is Theology. Doesn't have Drama or Guilds.

Apparently the founding of Islam has caused some dissent:

CTIV-1J.jpg

Turn 5 -- 1500 AD

Mansa Musa wants Drama and 240 Gold for Theology (which we'll research in 1 turn) ... I contemplate declaring war ...

Bombay: Aqueduct > Caravel
Karachi: Aqueduct > Courthouse

Turn 6 -- 1505 AD

Theology comes in, start on Philosophy
Madras: Castle > Grocer

Elizabeth has switched a couple of techs, so that might have been why Hastings wasn't happy.

We revolt to Vassalage and Theocracy. We can now build supersoldiers :D

Turn 7 -- 1510 AD

Lahore celebrates We Love the Monarch Day while its borders expand.

We find Mansa Musa's neighbor: Washington. Oh, and we now know Isabella too.
Washington, despite being 2nd now in the rankings, is woefully behind in tech. Spain ain't looking too hot either.

Turn 8 -- 1515 AD

Delhi: Maceman > Knight
AM: Stupa (who you call stupa?!?) > Grocer
Kolhapur: Lighthouse > Harbor

Lahore still loves me! Er, I mean us!

Hanno is BIFAL

Turn 9 -- 1520 AD

:coffee:

Turn 10 -- 1525 AD

Lahore: Buddhist Stupa > Catapult

We meet the final Civ: Aztecs. They're top 3, but also woefully behind in Tech.

Keep that Caravel going East: I want to circumnavigate the world first, mostly to deny the other Civs. Second caravel is almost ready, have him explore that island to the east.

It'll be interesting to see if Hastings flips.

Philosophy is due next turn. Banking is pretty much the only worthwhile tech in the next row.

Here's the save:

Hi guys. Due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e. work) I won't be able to continue with this SG. I apologize for this, but I simply won't have the time to continue. Good luck all and have fun.

Sorry to hear that, Blackluck.

Ok, here's the current roster:
